This book was a bit confusing and I had to keep flicking back and forth to try and understand. I felt that it didn’t flow well and it was difficult to keep reading at times. That said, it was a unique idea and just needs some amendments.
Great psychological thriller. A psychological thriller with lots of psychology. Perfect! This is a really clever thriller with a really unique premise as the suspected murderer is asleep! I liked the way the story gradually unraveled as you get the perspective of different characters and flashbacks to Anna O’s diary before the murders. The atmosphere changes as you progress through the book as the sense of urgency picks up. Definitely a recommended read.
This is a seriously good book. I had so little to go on when I got this book - only the picture on the cover and being told it had been published in lots of countries. That intrigued me so much. Now I have read the book and to try and give no spoilers. This is a fictional thriller, the story placed firmly in Britain 1970s to 2020s. This book has a very clever and twisted plot, with a drip drip of information. It made me feel pleasantly uneasy as this sort of book should. I knew my thought on what was going on were not correct, but I really didn’t see the author’s exquisitely dark ending. Thank you to Harper Collins UK, Harper Fiction and NetGalley for the ARC. The premise for this book was really interesting and I did enjoy the overall plot! I liked the different POVs and the way it was written.
The first half was engaging but I struggled to keep interest throughout the whole book. It was quite slow at times but I did appreciate the complex story that was being told.
Because there is no real synopsis for this book I really had no idea what to expect or if I would even enjoy it which did maybe effect my reading experience.
Overall, I can definitely see why people will love this book - it’s clever and intriguing. I don’t think it was the book for me though
Goodness me, where do I begin with this read,
From the first few pages I was hooked into this and the slow burn couldn't help but get me more and more intrigued.
The first half was better than the second for me, and at times it felt a bit extreme. There is a lot of science in this, and as someone who definitely doesn't have a scientific brain this was too much and lost the intensity of the novel.
I can see some readers loved the ending. It all fell a bit flat for me- feel like the author was trying too hard to be clever.
Overall an intriguing read.
Thanks for the arc copy of this book.
With very little to go on its hard to know if I would even like this book.
Unfortunately it wasn't for me. I almost felt confused by some of the language used and I felt that took all of my attention so I couldn't enjoy this book
I would like to thank the author, the publisher and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read an ARC of this book. It drew me in from the start and kept me wanting to read more. I will be recommending this book.
A really strong thriller, with an immediately engaging hook that ensured a very quick read. The package and the title are what will draw many people to this project by Matthew Blake, but the writing certainly lives up the hype. I felt that the final 15% did perhaps drag compared to the rest of the book, but given that the set-up for the final reveals was so well done this was always going to be a risk. It shouldn't take away from a very good novel, and one that seems destined to do phenomenally well
There was nothing in the blurb that stated what this book was about so I decided to read it.
Intriguing premise, murder by a sleepwalker, but it was too slow.
I like the different point of views but it did lumber on a bit, and there is no way Ben would have picked up the murder weapon. I realised who patient x was well before the end.
A good read but I feel it could have been much better.
An infamous murder case, a celebrity psychologist and an ambitious chief inspector with a complicated past, and the question of the level of responsibility a sleep walker has for their actions... I was totally gripped by this novel, where the viewpoint shifts between different characters, with one a potentially unreliable first person narrator. The plot is satisfyingly tortuous and the characters suitably flawed, and the final denouement has you looking back at all the clues that have been subtly revealed throughout the story. A thoroughly entertaining read, which I will be recommending to my book group.
An outstanding psycological thriller that hooked me straight in with its clever, multi faceted storyline. Absolutely love a novel that keeps me guessing right till the end. Definitely recommend this one and am sure it's going to be one of this years top reads.
Ideal for readers who enjoy twisting thrillers with a strong premise. It will do well.
With thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an early copy in exchange for an independent review.
I had no idea what this book was about when I requested it, and as there isn’t any synopsis online just THE WORLD WILL KNOW HER NAME. The instant global phenomenon publishing in over 30 territories. The thriller that will wake up the nation. This is the story of #AnnaO coming 2024
Instantly I was intrigued and wanted to read it! This book definitely didn’t disappoint! A great thriller, brilliant storyline which was well planned throughout. I instantly warmed to some characters and hated others from the beginning! The central character Anna O is accused of murder but has no recollection as she immediately fell in to a deep sleep afterwards and 4 years later still hasn’t woken. Dr Benedict Prince is a psychologist specialising in sleep related homicides working out of a clinic in Harley Street, London. With Anna entrusted to his care, and as he assesses the best methods of treatments to try and rouse her, he’s also hiding secrets of his own. A very mysterious tale with plenty of surprises! I thought I had it all worked out but the twist is epic, I didn’t see it coming at all! I wish you all the best with this one Matthew, it’s absolutely fantastic, I really enjoyed the way it kept me on my toes the whole time, I was totally invested early on! Brilliant read!
Thank you to HarperCollins & NetGalley for the ARC in return for an honest review.
I did not know what to expect from this book as the synopsis gave very little away but it mentioned the word ‘thriller’ and I knew I wanted to read it.
It turned out to be a 5 star read for me, I did not work out the twist until the last 10-15% The story revolves around Anna Ogilvy or Anna O who stabs her bests friends whilst sleepwalking and subsequently falls into a deep sleep for 4 years. Dr Benedict Prince a sleep expert is enlisted to try and wake her from her sleep and the drama begins to unfold.
There is a lot of information on sleep related crimes & psychology, it was a different type of thriller to what I am used to reading but I found the concept of the book very interesting and the story complex, it is well worth a read.
A super compelling and page-turning first half, massively let down by a meandering and overly complex ending. The determination to introduce twist after twist after twist in the final 15% undermined much of the intriguing set-up. Also, far too many Harry Potter references. Unfortunately didn’t live up to the hype for me, and I LOVE this genre.
I found the book a bit confusing and slow. Lost interest. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for letting me review this book
Well that was one hell of a read!!! So many twist & turns. Many false leads & mixed up characters. Excellent
I really wanted to love this book....
If I had seen more from the blurb I would probably not have chosen to read it. Its such a slow burn read which I forced myself to read to the end. Its not my kind of read but I know this will appeal to lots of readers and I hope it does well. I love the cover
This was a slow burn, almost to the point I'd finished the book before I got excited about it.
Such an interesting idea, and sending the book into the world with no blurb is a great marketing tool... I fell for that.
The multiple pov worked well, the constant who, and why were good too.
For me though, it took too long, revealed too slowly where it was going.
It's going to do so well though, you can just tell.
Confusing, meandering. I almost gave up early but persisted until admiiting defeat at 70% read. By that point I really didn't care how it was going to end.
The resignation theme is interesting but the story hangs clumsily around it.
The big question for me is why did Ben handle the murder weapon? He wouldn't, he really wouldn't be so stupid!
