I received a complimentary copy of this book "Happiness Came With a Cat" and all opinions expressed are my own. I see a cat and I want to read the book. I do know that you cannot choose a cat, pick out a cat that you want. The cat always chooses you. This book was ok. It was hard to get through some pages as it seemed too detailed at times. The book is more about the authors life than the actual cat.
I am a cat person, and in my 50’s, and appreciate a good self help book. However, I found Star’s story difficult to follow at times, and either too detailed or not enough. Tough moments were skimmed over, while situations of less importance were given more attention. Ultimately, the book is about perseverance and resilience, for the author and her cat. The book has potential for those who need some encouragement if going through tough times like a divorce, moving, losing a job, etc. It needs more editing though, to help the flow and appropriate emphasis.
I received a copy through NetGalley and have written an objective review.
Wonderful book on trying your best not to let your cat be the boss of your life. The author did a wonderful job showing how to live with a cat with so much love and respect. My cat is the boss of the house and thats why I loved this book. Yes all cat lovers will relate to this book and will realize how licky we are to have our furbabies
In spite of the title, this has very little to do with the cat, other than each chapter ends with a Aesop-like moral. Star tells the story of leaving an abusive marriage in Wyoming and moving to New Mexico with little more that her cat and the clothes on her back. It's difficult to follow her timeline based on the relationships she has, how long she says they last, and the age she says she is at the start and end of the book. However, I prefer sensible chronologies so this is probably a minor quibble to others.
All-in-all, it's a very quick read, great for taking to the beach or camp where you don't have to expend a lot of brain power analyzing the events.
Happiness Came With a Cat - New Edition is a reminder that sometimes the greatest gifts come in the form of unexpected companions. Through laughter, tears, and a few mishaps, Cynthia and Jinx navigate life's ups and downs together, ultimately discovering the transformative power of friendship.
Cynthia's life takes an unexpected turn when she reluctantly welcomes Jinx, a long-haired cat, into her home. Initially, the two are far from enamored with each other, but as Cynthia faces loss, grief, and personal struggles, their relationship evolves into a heartwarming friendship.
This book is a poignant exploration of the healing power of companionship and the lessons we learn from the most unexpected sources.
I was gifted this book kindly by the author on Net Galley in the same week my cat died . It turned out to be a great way for me to remember all the behaviors and lovely aspects of our cats. Mr. Jinx comes into the authors life and becomes her emotional support and best friend after the author suffered the loss of her husband by divorce and suffered from depression and a eating disorder. I admit i thought the cat over the husband was the best choice for the author and Mr. Jinx proved his worth to her in his life many times over. He is a amazing cat very much in tune with his human. I enjoyed the way the chapters related to our cats and how they save our lives and change us for the better. A excellent must read for all cat lovers. Well done to the author. I highly recommend this book for all cat lovers.
Loved this book. Not to be missed.
Thanks to author, publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book. While I got the book for free it had no bearing on the rating I gave it.
Happiness Came With a Cat is a book about the author’s life and how it changed for the better when Mr Jinx the cat came into her life. The author talks about a separation with her husband, which led to a sense of grief and loss, and about struggles with an eating disorder for many years. I enjoyed reading about how Mr Jinx made life more interesting and brought a sense of comfort into the author’s life (after the chaos he brought at the start!). I really liked how the chapters were organised into lessons, for example, ‘cats are better than people’, as this was a nice way of dividing up the different parts of the book. I enjoyed reading this and would recommend this to any cat lovers or people interested in real life stories!
