This Christmas in Paris by Sophie Claire was a fab read, great page turner that I just couldn’t put down. Loved the little twists and the clear descriptions of the cafe and Paris made me feel I was there also. Really enjoyed this book.
This is a comfortable read - it is filled with the magic of Paris and Christmas and covers the topics of friendship and opening yourself up to a new person in your life.
The relationship between Mat and Carys was lovely in how it developed, slowly and gently as their feelings for each other grew.
Also covered was some food for thought - have we ever really considered the impact of our reviews, when we post them online? It is easy to write something when we are angry and hidden behind a screen, and it highlighted how important it is to consider that often the items we are reviewing mean a lot to the person who created them.
A cute little Christmassy love story.
Completely went against my expectations of a light, Christmas novel.
This book dealt with some pretty serious issues and wasn't overly festive, however this doesn't draw away from how good it is.
Loved the setting of Paris and the writing style. Definitely recommended as a read for any time of year
Thank you to Netgalley and Hodder & Stoughton publishing for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I am not going to lie, I love Christmas book what ever time of the year. As soon as I saw the front cover and read the title I thought this would be my kind of book. Our MC Cary needs a fresh start. after being left in a coma after a bad car accident she decides she needs to make some changes. Seeing an advert for a job at a cafe in Paris, Cary decides it is fate intervening and leaves her job as a teacher in the small village where she lives.
It isn't the light romance I expected when reading the synopsis. Cary is definitely having PTSD from the accidents which is deal with in the wiring but done in such a way that it is easy to read about. The book has depth and I love the way the story switched from Cary to Mat it made it flow really well, and we grew with the characters as the relationship developed..
I also totally love the Paris scenes, and I was definitely getting Emily in Paris vibes from the book which made me enjoy it even more. This is the first book I have read by the author but I will certainly look out for Sophie Claires books in future.
It’s time!!! ❄️☃️🎄
Halloween is now over, I’m in my chunky knitwear, the scarves are out and it is well into hot chocolate season. Christmas markets are on the horizon with mulled wine and open fires. What would make that scenario better? Being curled up with a Christmas book!
My favourite part of this time of the year is the fact I can change my genre and reading habit and go all in for Christmas and winter romance. To start this off, my first winter romance book is going to be this!
What could be more magical than Christmas in Paris?
When Carys is offered the chance to run a little French cafe, she leaps at the chance to discover an exciting city where she can dream big.
Meanwhile, struggling journalist Mat is living in the City of Love - but he’s never found romance himself.
Then, a chance encounter changes everything, and it feels like the start of something wonderful. But Carys and Mat are both keeping secrets.
The E-Book could be improved and more user-friendly, such as links to the chapters, no significant gaps between words and a cover for the book would be better. It is very document-like instead of a book. A star has been deducted because of this.
This is a first for me by the author and one I enjoyed and I would read more of their work. The book cover is eye-catching and appealing and would spark my interest if in a bookshop. Thank you to the author, publisher and Netgalley for this ARC.
Lovely read - not very festive though so don’t be fooled by the Christmas part. Did enjoy the story and who doesn’t love a romance with Paris included. Fun wintery read.
Ahh, Christmas in the city of love … what could possibly go wrong?!
I really enjoyed reading this book, a wonderful setting & interesting characters. Not overly festive, but that did not detract from the enjoyment of this book.
A wonderful winter read.
This release from Sophie Claire is exactly what I've come to expect from this author. A throughly enjoyable read that keeps me hooked until the end.
I loved this one and it's perfect for the festive season, so please check it out.
We meet Carys, a school teacher in a little close nit village living with her best friend a year after she is involved in a car accident which left her in a coma.
She wakes up to news her best friend is in a serious relationship and everyone around her seems to have their life in order where she can't help suffering from PTSD following the accident and she isn't really truely that happy.
She decides she needs to make a change, and what better way than to run a cosy cafe in Paris from Sept-Dec.
Mat is a journalist working for a local free newspaper with the boss from hell due to deadlines and literally no budget.
Mat used to want to write songs, but after his highly successful father destroys his confidence as a teenager, he puts a stop to writing music, but he does write anonymous food reviews for local eateries in Paris.
He and Carys meet each other in a park and instantly hit it off and agree just like the film you've got mail they will keep work and personal life separate, of course Mat is recommended the cafe Carys is running and he ends up trying a sandwich from a college and absolutely loving it and needs to see this cafe for himself.
After a national newspaper wants Mat to use his hidden identity to cover the usual food critic, he used the cafe as his review piece and rated it 1 star.
I adore these 2 as the main characters, and the side characters are just as great.
If you want, you've got mail vibes set in Paris at Christmas. This is the cosy book for you.
Not overly Christmassy, but that's in its favour. Loved the setting. I felt frustrated with both Carys and Mat. Why couldn't they be honest with each other earlier? There was something quite flat about Carys - I didn't really warm to her. With thanks to NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
What a beautiful Christmas book by Sophie Claire.
The story is based round Carys, who has moved to the beautiful city of Paris to start a new chapter in her life.
When she is there, she meets journalist Mat and suddenly she has found romance in the most romantic city in the world.
However, the path of true love rarely rounds smooth. Can they overcome the obstacles that are in their way.
Christmas in Paris wasn't overly festive for me but I enjoyed the characters development and the spirit of a community. Life throws things at you and I loved hiw this was dealt with. Also shows the good and bad of social media. I will be looking at reading some more books by this author..
Read and reviewed in exchange for a free copy from NetGalley. This was an enjoyable read, and I enjoyed Claire's beautiful descriptions of Paris and the cafe. I really liked Carys and the supporting characters were all well written, but struggled with Mat. However, I would recommend this book.
This is a new Author to me and I will certainly be Reading more of her books.. The story is about Cary’s who has suffered a trauma, and goes to manage a cafe in Paris while the Owners have to go away for a few months. She doesn’t have experience but wonders how hard it can be. There are a few teething problems with existing staff and a resident cat but she copes well. Lonely and a little homesick she enjoys exploring in the City and eventually meets a male friend in the park. Several characters live through difficult situations. I highly recommend you read this book.
"This Christmas in Paris" by Sophie Claire is a heartwarming holiday romance set against the backdrop of the City of Light. Claire's storytelling is charming and filled with festive spirit. A delightful read for the season.
A festive book but with twists along the way. |Read this and enjoy Carys story. 4 stars
Thanks to Netgalley, author and publisher for this ARC
Carys takes a job in Paris running a cafe, will her time there be ruined by a mystery reviewer that seems to have it in for her?
I was happy to see that Carys got her own story, after we were introduced to her in A Winter's Dream. She is such a sweet, resilient character and I really warmed to her. I found it very hard to like Mat at times. What he did was awful, as the story went on I eventually got over it but highlighted the effect that negative reviews have on people. There was a lot of depth to Carys and Mat which made for good reading. I will say that This Christmas in Paris isn't particularly a festive read. Most of the story takes place outside of the festive period. Overall, I did enjoy this book and I'll look forward to Sophie's next one.
After suffering from a horrific accident and spending six months in a comma, Cerys is desperate for a new start. This is in the form of managing the Red Cat Cafe. Whilst in Paris she meets Mat a journalist who works for a small paper and hates his job. Can they turn their relationship from friendship to something more whilst they are both keeping secrets? A nice cast of cafe staff and customers. A nice novel to dive into.
It's a romantic escapist novel with a difference. The Parisian setting is well-described, and that and the cafe bring the story to life. Carys is looking for an adventure after a devastating accident that still affects her life. Refusing to let it define her, she takes an opportunity to run a Parisian cafe. The characters she meets, both customers and staff, add adventure to her life, although not always positively. Meeting Mat brings unexpected friendship and eventual romance, but secrets threaten to keep them apart. I enjoyed the story's characters, the romance and the setting.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher.
