My class this year love graphic novels so I wanted to broaden my knowledge in this area.
I loved Agent 9:Mind Control! I found it very easy to read and was delighted at how absorbed I became in the stories. With an engaging story line, fantastic illustrations and real laugh-out-loud moments, I can see why this will engage even my most reluctant readers.
I'll definitely be looking out for more.
The first sequel (and only one, at time of writing) in this series is bizarrely dedicated to Dave Grohl. Odd, but here we are. Anyway, it features our genderless tiger cat thing not on probation for being overly destructive, but this time aiming for the title of Spy of the Month, just so a super-disguised silhouette can get the acclaim in headquarters. That's what's on my hero's mind – until something like a baddie with mind control tech comes to light...
Once again the book seems to want to play off the daffy, but is actually too clever by far to just rely on that – there's an instance in a heist scene of a wonderfully-played couple of panels, taking our characters round and finally into the one main panel of the page. 9 sliding across a car bonnet and failing utterly to land the, er, landing, is top notch incidental detail, too. This is no fly-by-night, throw-colours-and-drama-at-the-page-and-see-what-sticks effort.
So, admittedly, it will be no (monkey) wrench if I never see another of these volumes, but these are really good, and many a young reader would happily declare "I'll stick around" for further episodes if they come up. They do, after all, try and build a back-story off these pages, rounding out the world and making it more complete. Generally there is too much effort being given to these books – much as was spent on my four Foos references so far. That being a medium rare achievement, this gets a strong four stars, to distinguish it from the plain four of the series opener.
This book was so adorable, I loved everything about it, the illustrations were so well done, they suited the book perfectly, the story was amazing as well, even thought is very short I could really connect with the characters. I’m sure the kids are going to be just as enthralled with this amazing book as I was. I will definitely recommend! Thank you netgalley and the publisher for this early copy
Another brilliant graphic novel, perfect for KS1/LKS2. Agent 9 needs to learn to accept help to try and foil a plan for the evil wolf and his mind-controlling plan! Gorgeous illustrations, lots of great humour and this will definitely be popular with kids!
