What a great story. As with most romances you have a good idea how things will pan out but this one keeps you going for a bit longer than usual and brings in that real life element where things don't just fall into place and people don't just forgive others and lose their anger that easily, and things have to be worked for and worked out. I really felt the book tugging on my heartstrings. You know an author is doing something right when you feel invested in the characters and their outcomes.
A queer retelling of You've Got Mail with ice cream. I'm here for it.
The chemistry between the characters seems to be very quickly built up. I'm not sure how I feel about it. This is the opposite of slow burn. This is a match during a drought, but it does mean we get to jump right in, and with the premise, we don't really need a lot of time to develop an understanding of the world. Listen, if you're trash like me and just like women kissing, ice cream, and a solid Tom Hanks/Meg Ryan classic, then there is nothing better.
This is one of Georgia Beers’ sweetest novels, and not necessarily because there’s an ice cream shop in it. Both main characters were likable with off the charts chemistry between them.
I’ve said before that the worst part about reading a Georgia Beers novel is that we now have to wait a few months until the next one comes out.
I highly recommend this one if you’re looking for a sweet story (no pun intended).
Perhaps because Beers has set the bar so high recently with Camp Lost and Found and Dance with Me, but I found myself somewhat underwhelmed by this book.
Peaches and Cream strayed from her (usually successful) formula and had the mc’s fall in lust and start a friends w/ benefits situation right up front. Now this in and of itself isn’t a problem. Not every book has to be a slow burn and I’ve read many one night to forever that I thoroughly enjoyed. However the artistry in Beers work is the romantic buildup and in this story I just felt a bit let down.
That being said, I did still enjoy the book because even though they kiss pretty instantly, there is still some tension and buildup before they sleep together. Also, Beers is just an overall talented author and deftly makes her characters likable and the story engaging.
Overall for me it was a bit of a letdown after the brilliance of the prequel, but still a Beers fan. 3.5 stars
I received an ARC copy of this ebook from NetGalley and all opinions are my own.
A very typical Georgia Beers book and that makes my heart happy!! I enjoyed Sprinkles and the banter between the two main characters. Always very fun and well written dialogue from Beers and this was no different.
I loved the non binary representation without actually declaring it. It was a light hearted, fun, easy read and I would definitely recommend!
5/5 stars
Chapter 1 is as you would expect from a Georgia Beers novel. Amusing dialogue and likeable characters. They have just met, so I don’t feel out of step with their banter.
Non binary representation is moving forward. They/them pronouns but no announcement about the character being non binary.
25% in and the mains don’t know about each other what we do. They don’t know the big rock, right in the middle of their path to meeting Ms Right, of course they’ve each persuaded the other, and themselves, they are only looking for Miss Right Now.
Normally, with a less skilled writer, I would be getting a bit fed up that they don’t know, but the banter, either between the mains or the mains supporting characters, has been amusing enough to keep the book enjoyable. There has been a bit of foreshadowing what is (I think) likely to be another plot boulder. (It was, but not a big deal, more of a plot pebble).
75% in and I can’t give numerical proof for this, but my impression is that the mains have spent more time on the page thinking about being together, than actually being together. I’m not saying it’s an issue, but I’m not saying it’s a plus.
This book has trademark Beers banter, there is a cute puppy, there is nothing not to like, and nothing I don’t like, but there isn’t anything I love….. well I love Beers banter…. But it’s a Beers novel, it’s a given that there is funny banter, but……
To put this in perspective, 17 minutes to go, the mains although very much on the road to a happy ending aren’t there yet and I got distracted by a fb thread looking for book recommendations! This is an enjoyable book, and passed the time. It’s not a Beers classic, but then a Beers’ okay is till a very worthwhile purchase.
My first experience with Georgia Beers’ books was the Puppy Love Romances. That’s why I smiled when a lost young puppy, Sprinkles, entered this story and captured everyone’s heart.
The story was fun and romantic, about two two ladies who were both in the ice cream business. Sabrina, an executive in a national franchise owned by her mother. She was all business-oriented and traveled around the country setting up new shops of her brand, Sweet Heaven, with the purpose of putting other local shops out of business. In this case, her target was in Northwood, NY where the Scoop Ice Cream Shop was owned and operated by Adley, whose Grandfather founded the business. Adley wasn’t the best business person but her studies in culinary school gave her the skills to mix flavors to creat artisan ice cream superior to Sabrina’s company’s mass produced products.
Sabrina and Adley met at a local bar and the chemistry attraction was immediate and powerful. They knew Sabrina was only in town temporarily, so agreed to have a fling but to keep it light and not even discuss their stressful jobs. Since this was a lesbian romance, things do happen to burst the reader’s bubble! This was no exception and I became frustrated with how long the angst was lasting. However, since I knew it would be HEA, I waited patiently for things to clear up!
I was rewarded because this author just has a magical ability to beautifully write romance and create an atmosphere that envelopes the reader into wanting more and more, not wanting to put the book down! Her romance scene’s completely convey love and affection that melt you….and then the steamy scenes are over the moon with hotness; not erotica but beautiful feelings of love shared by those deeply in love.
She also created great side characters who enhanced the story and provided the mains the with support and a sounding board and help the flow of the story.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and thank NetGalley and Bold Strokes for the advance copy in exchange for my honest opinion
Georgia Beers is one of my must read authors of f/f books and her latest offering, Peaches and Cream is another win in her books.
Adley and Sabrina’s story is as bitter as it is sweet with a love at first sight and grand passion type of romance held back due to improbable and impossible circumstances. When the ladies first met, the connection, zap, chemistry and sparks? All there. Neither does causal but when you meet your person, even causal is not going to suffice. I really liked that there was so much laughter about and with each other throughout the course of their sweet but agonising relationship. Georgia Beers broke my gay heart when they went separate ways but good things come to those who wait and a particular scene in the epilogue made all they have endured worth it. If you love Scottie and Marissa (as much as I did) from Dance with Me, you will be happy as there are updates on their lives too.
I just reviewed Peaches and Cream by Georgia Beers. Thank you NetGalley and Bold Strokes Books for the ARC.
would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this awesome book
this is adley story....
all adley wanted to do was own an ice cream shop... and she did but she was also about to lose her business... she knew as soon as the competition was about to open that it would have dire consequences to her business...she was already struggling but this would be the nail in the coffin
sabrina james the enemy though adley didnt know it as yet... sabrina was opening up the another ice cream business and it would be in competition with adleys.... neither one knew what the other jobs was when they first met and started their affair.... it was just for fun no strings attached
but the day they found out what the other did for business it ruined what they felt for each other...
man this storyline kept me awake at night... could not put the book down at all... and what a great storyline it is with appearances from scotty and marissa and who doesnt like ice cream...
looking forward to reading more from this author
I'll probably be in the minority here but I didn't enjoy this novel as much as I hoped to.
I'm not a big fan of the insta-love trope to begin with but this book took it to another level of dubious with that insta-lust within 5 minutes in the very first chapter. Another thing that's becoming really overwritten lately is how perfectly beautiful every character is. Everyone is gorgeous, super hot and has the bluest blue eyes out there.
There was nothing about the characters that stood out and there was nothing compelling about the story overall.
The tears I cried at this book!! Both happy and sad! I was SO emotionally invested in these two, their lives, their work and mostly their relationship - it was so hard to put this book down! Having only recently discovered my love for romance books (it helps when they are sapphic!) this was perfectly paced through the highs and lows. I will definitely be recommending this book to those around me and I’m so glad I got to read an advance copy of this - the ending made my heart so so happy and now I want to own a cute ice cream shop with my partner?! A dreamy side effect of reading this book!
THIS BOOK??? So good!! I’m not going to lie I am a mood reader through & through. So when I started this I wasn’t in the mood for a romance to be honest, but that changed very quickly. Within the first chapter I was hooked. Something about the way Georgia Beers writes is fascinating in itself. I felt so close to each and every character, like I was in the room with them the entire time. The way she described what was happening, the tastes, the smells, the atmosphere- beautifully written.
I loved each of our main characters right away. Not only were they just lovable, but so relatable. To their internal monologue to their decision making to their doubting themselves- I related to them and just simply enjoyed reading about them the entire book.
The love & chemistry between these two is off the charts and masterfully thought & written out. I loved their love, their banter, their happiness. The way they describe being in love is something a lot of people can relate to if they’ve ever felt it themselves.
I enjoyed the diversity that Georgia put into this book as well. The different pronouns and sexual orientations. I know that is very important to a lot of people and I think Georgia Beers did a wonderful job including everyone in this book equally.
Overall, I’d recommend this book to everyone. It’s cute, funny, sexy, and a FANTASTIC summer read! If you like love, ice cream, and giggling- definitely pick this one up. It releases August 2023!
Georgia Beers always hits a home run! She is fantastic. I absolutely adore the way she writes from the character's perspectives. Sweet baby Jesus on a bike, Georgia Beers wrote an epic love story! Do not pass up this one. It's easy to root for the two main love interests from the very beginning. I just love the way Georgia Beers develop her characters. They are always relatable, and I always find it so hard to put down her stories each night. I also enjoy the way she develops side character's stories like the sister in Peaches and Cream. I highly recommend this beautiful story!
Once I started this book I could not put it down. Did it lead me to staying up well into the night, yes it did, no regrets. I enjoyed every part of this story. The characters we dynamic and well developed. I loved the comparison to “You’ve Got Mail” as well as how it diverges. Both main characters, Adley and Sabrina are well developed with adorable and endearing quirks. The supporting characters are fleshed out and compliment the development of the main couple well. I will be not only rereading this book again but also reading other works by this author!
