This graphic novel was so cute and the ending made me tearing up a bit. The drawing style is so beautiful as well as the relationship between Marie-Jo and Victor was so cute. I wish the graphic novel was longer and I wish we got to see more of Victor's passion for music. But overall this graphic novel was a great read!
Thank you Netgalley for this copy!
Truly, I want to tell you a hidden truth. This is the best comic I have read in my entire life. The art is so wonderful and fantastic and … the story. I can’t speak about the story, it made me cry. I love it! 5 out of 5. The characters are absolutely fantastic. I love the romance/friendship. It is so cute. If I have to recommend a book, it is this one. It made me fell in love with comics. It’s the best one I have read so far.
This was such a tender, sweet story to read! While Victor struggles with school, he befriends Marie who helps him get better grades and explore the wider world around him on a psychological and emotional level. Basically, navigating teenage emotions deeper than the shallow waters he he wades through daily. In turn, he helps Marie with a huge hurdle to help make her dream come true.
I found their relationship very endearing, but I think the translation could've been refined a bit better to make the language a little more natural. I also think the ferris wheel page could be a bit clearer on where the dialogue starts. Maybe me zooming in and out on my mobile is the issue, but I think some clarity could be used.
Overall, this was such a great story to read! They dealt with teenage issues at their capacity, and I couldn't have asked for a better outcome!
Thank you at #EuropeComics #NetGalley for letting me read this graphic novel.
The art style is absolutely gorgeous. The story was cute the lead characters Victor and Marie-Jo were adorable. I gave it 4 stars. I do wish it was longer and I also wish Victor was able to show Marie-Jo his real self. I recommend the graphic novel 100% .
My Heart in Braille tells the story of a developing friendship between two young teens named Victor and Marie-Jo. As the two bond, Marie helps Victor study and bring up his failing grades while Victor keeps Marie's secret that she is going blind and helps her prepare for a quickly approaching musical performance that may determine her future.
This story was sweet, interesting, and heartwarming from start to finish. The only issues that I really saw are the fact that Victor thought he had to hide parts of himself from Marie and that some of the smaller details of the story are fairly unrealistic. Otherwise I really enjoyed this book .
Thank you to Netgalley for providing an Advance Reader Copy in exchange for an honest, fair review.
5/5
How incredibly cute but also incredibly short!!! I want moooooore! Then again it was the perfect story, wrapped up ever so nicely.
It follows a young boy named Victor, who has apparently had lots of trouble in his previous school year and is finding it difficult to turn this new one around. That is until he meets Marie-Jo, a new friend who teaches him many things about life and himself. Together they make a good team to tackle their predicament while also striving towards their dreams. Follow this lovely pair as they navigate a crucial moment in their teenage lives.
I have NOTHING bad to say about this. Excellent story writing, excellent illustration, excellent translation. 10s across the board.
This is such an easy, cute read. Everyone should read this book. EVERYONE! I even teared up reading it. Which is amazing since the story is only 75 pages long.
I’m super grateful I got to read an early copy. I will definitely keep an eye out for more content from both author and illustrator.
I love the art style I really enjoyed the details in the illustrations. I also really liked this warm color scheme for the parts in the present and the soft shadow caster on things. The illustrations were great. I also really love the story I think it was perfect for what it is and a cute little read. As someone with disabilities not the same ones but with issues. I like how the book explores the idea of something begging taken away from your body that this character has to cope with it’s very relatable!
Victor feels like he doesn't measure up, especially when it comes to school. When he catches Marie-Jo, a straight-A student, cheating on a math test, the two form a friendship. However, Marie-Jo, behind her lovely cello-playing, has a secret. When she shares it with Victor, he has to decide how he can best protect and help her.
While the illustrations and portrayed relationships are all lovely, the story at times feels quite rushed and important moments are glossed over. Slowing the tale down and diving deeper would have been welcome, but My Heart in Braille is still a pleasant read.
I really liked this comic, the translation flowed really well for me and I was already a big fan of the artist so I loved to see their adaptation.
The story is very reflective on passion and love as well as talking about friendships, music and school. I believe the message is beautifully transmitted and it is definitely a story any audience can enjoy
I thought the comic and the style of illustration was very adorable
I got the feeling that they could have stretched out a little more in their relationship. And the third act reminded me of Moonrise Kingdom (but I prefer My Heart in Braille's execution)

This short graphic novel about young love was so heartwarming and adorable. Thanks to Europe Comics and Netgalley for the ARC! This doesn’t affect my review in any way.
The cover of this story was absolutely gorgeous! Victor and Marie-Jo’s little story has an art style that you would fall in love with. Even these little clichés really matter and stories like theirs deserve to be read 🫶🏻 This book traverses through a story of a boy and a girl falling in love amidst their own hurdles, and is also about self-discovery, passion, and growth.
thank you to NetGalley for a free E-arc in exchange for an honest review.
My heart in Braille is a short fast-paced graphic novell about two teenagers struggling in different ways. One has a hard time getting his grades up and the other is a brilliant student who happens to go blind. an interesting friendship blooms.
I found this to be such a sweet story that captivated the two main characters so well. the main character who is going blind throughout the story has strong character traits. luckily, even with these characteristics, the disability representation was portrayed fairly realistically.
the plot was fast-paced, but I think that didn't hinder the story, only a couple of times did I think we could've had a bit more information and plot.
the concept is so heart touching and cute 🥺❤️ oh to have a guy like victor in your life😭🙏 the ending song was phenomenal!!!
THE ART STYLE 10/10 omg absolutely stunning
the plot was so adorable, I only wish it was a bit longer. It was a really quick and sweet read! Would recommend!
Generally an enjoyable, heartwarming read. Some odd pacing with the romantic subplot that took me out of the moment a bit.

Thank you Europe Comics and NetGalley for the arc!
My Heart in Braille follows two teenagers who help each other navigate their struggles. Victor struggles to stay out of trouble at school and wishes he could learn things the way everyone else can. Marie is dealing with the knowledge that her degenerative eye condition will take her sight much sooner than she anticipated.
This is a really sweet story told through absolutely gorgeous illustrations.
I did feel that many of the characters were brought in just to be mean and didn’t really add much to the plot, and I feel like some of the gaps in time felt a bit too jarring and that I was missing some of the narrative.
Overall it was a cute read. Thank you again for the arc!
This was a beautiful story of friendship and love. Everything about this, the color palette, characters, and illustrations were lovely and soft. I loved the disability rep as well, it felt authentic.
A really cute story about disability, friendship, love and passion!
Also, I really enjoyed the art - it's very soft and nice!
@NetGalley and Europe Comics: Thank you guys for this ARC!
This was a really sweet coming of age and love story between two teenagers who find themselves in a tricky situation. The art style was very sweet too and made the characters come to life. I wish we got to see what the future will bring for them!
This was a cute and emotional coming-of-age story. This is a graphic novel adaptation of the French novel My Friend in the Dark by Pascal Ruter. Victor is a boy who struggles with his academics, and he fails almost every class he's in. Enter Marie Jo, an intelligent girl who aces almost every class of hers. After an incident involving the two of them, Marie Jo suggested a plan: she will help Victor study. As they get closer, we find out Marie Jo's losing her vision, and that it was worsening everyday. To support her ambitions to get into music school, Victor helped Marie Jo with whatever he could — even if it might lead to rather drastic actions.
I have never read the original book, but I find that the graphic novel lacks a lot of nuance that the book must've had. The pacing is awfully fast, and the dialogue sometimes comes off as awkward. The paneling is also confusing, and I'm speaking as someone who enjoyed numerous graphic novels and mangas for years. This was a bit hard to navigate while reading.
I did enjoy the plot though, and the romance between Marie Jo and Victor was very sweet. It was a bit too dramatic at the end, but honestly all coming-of-age stories are like that. Marie Jo's determination to commit to her passion of playing the cello and getting into music school despite losing her vision is very touching to read about, and Victor's struggle with his own self-esteem and academics was angsty yet relatable. The art is gorgeous, and I love the coloring done in the book. It's a very visually pleasing experience to read this book.
All in all, I give this 3 ⭐️. I'm intrigued to read the original novel because I think there is much more nuance hidden from this graphic novel that it is unable to capture successfully.
Many thanks to Netgalley and Europe Comics for the ARC ✨
