I really enjoyed this graphic novel. I can't wait to order this book for my library and see everyone else enjoy it as well. It will be a hit in our young adult department.
<b>"You let me borrow your dream. I'll never forget it"</b>
Two very different type of students--the one who slacking and the straight A student--made an unimaginable friendship that would change their lives. This comic book has a beautiful art-style and sweet storyline. it's short but a heartfelt and meaningful one, perfect to read in one sit!
Just a quick note though, I know that Victor got sucked into Marie Jo's live and routine which good for him, but I wish there is some moment where Victor introduce her to his band and some rock music (for fun!). I still love this, nevertheless.
Thanks NetGalley for the ARC of this book for an honest review.
3/5
This story was super cute, as was the art style.
The story tho, felt rushed and unfinished.
In this short story, there were different situations that were left suspended. The band for example, what happened to it in the end? Or did Victor actually pass the school year? Did Marie tell her parents the truth? What was the parents told to make them suddenly change their minds?
All these questions will never find a proper answer. All was focused in the end on Marie's audition with that little kids adventure that changed the game right at the end of the narration.
The whole plot could have been worked out better, focusing more on the actual relationship between the two characters, maybe actually seeing them practice together and just adjust to life together.
It was indeed a cute and good time filler read, but with an on and off narration.
I'd like to preface this by saying that I was allowed to read this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review! Thanks, NetGalley!
I really enjoyed this one's art and story, and I think it did a good job of capturing the minds of children that particular age dealing with school, parents, blossoming love, and disability. I also really enjoyed the artwork.
This was a very cute graphic novel! I loved the art style, Marie-Jo and Victor were adorable together, and the story was pretty cute. It's fairly short, but I had a fun time reading.
Thanks to NetGalley for an eARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
My Heart in Braille is a beautiful and visually stunning story about two teens named Victor and Marie-Jo who meet and fall in love while bringing out the best in each other.
The writing is brilliant and heartwarming.
The art is gorgeously done.
Hard of seeing representation is explored in a heartfelt light.
Thank you so much NetGalley for a copy. I really enjoyed the story and appreciate it.
This was one of my first graphic novels. I’ve read comics all my life, but never anything longer. I’d have to say, for my first read, this was so cute. It’s def a YA, coming of age, love story. The art was fantastic. The characters were very cute. I appreciated the depth of emotions in such a short read. Worth a pick up.
Thank you Net Galley for the arc to read and give my honest opinions.
My Heart in Braille is, sadly, more of vibe, a concept art book rather than a coherent story: where the visuals are really powerful, the coherence of the story is limping. Which is unfortunate, as I would have loved to recommend the story whole-heartedly. It is so great to see a beautifully put together story that is inclusive of people with disabilities in a way that's encouraging and not patronizing, and this was a very sweet story. The pacing and lack of coherence of dialogue affected in quite a bit, alas.
Thanks to #EuropeComics and #NetGalley for an arc of this graphic novel.
Pretty average to be honest.
Some of the parts I didn't understand, like how he knew she was cheating...
And, "jacking off", as is written, has quite a different meaning to how it was used but i presume this is just down to the translation.
This is a beautifully illustrated graphic novel that tells a sweet story of two kids who help each other survive school. Marie-jo is suffering from a degenerative eye disease and it's only with Victor's help that she's able to keep it hidden how rapidly she is losing her eyesight. In return, she helps tutor Victor in his studies, something he has always struggled with. The art of this story is gorgeous with a lot of expression and soft colors. The only thing I struggled with in this book is that the pacing wasn't as smooth as it could have been and the ending feels a bit abrupt. All in all, a great read for realistic fiction readers with some solid disability representation of a condition that isn't often present in YA graphic novels.
I absolutely adored the art style and the sweet romance, but the storytelling itself was not effective at all. The dialogue feels stilted, the pacing is uneven, and the story beats all over the place. I feel like the writing did not do the art justice.
I love this. The art is divine. The characters were adorable. I appreciate a character with vision impairments, as I work in a blind school and I have met young women who lost their vision in a similar way. This is very wholesome.
Victor is passionate about cars and his rock band but can’t find the same focus and passion for school. When he meets Marie-Jo, she helps him work towards his goals. But he doesn’t realize that she will need his help too.
My Heart in Braille is so heartwarming and lovely. The artwork is absolutely stunning and I was immediately immersed. It perfectly captures the awkwardness and devotion of your early teen years and first love. I just wish there was more!!
Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my unbiased review. This is a sweet graphic novel about young love and overcoming obstacles. It centers around two high school age kids, Victor and Marie-Jo. Marie-Jo suffers from degenerative eye disease and is going blind, though she has kept that secret to herself. Victor and Marie-Jo develop a friendship, then a romantic relationship, leaning on each other to overcome their individual challenges. Victor helps Marie-Jo adapt to her visual impairment, where Marie-Jo helps Victor adapt to his struggles with focus and memory. I wish we would have learned more about Victor and his own connection to music, and I feel like the story ended prematurely without Marie-Jo finding out about Victor's band and how that might change their dynamic. Overall I really enjoyed the story and would love to see a continuation someday.
Love the representation was a cute and fluffy story about inclusion, belonging and found family. Beautifully told with just as good drawings.
First of all I would like to thank NetGalley and the publisher for giving me access to the book.
Music lovers this one is for you.
This little graphic novel is really sweet. We see these two characters that come together and end up forming a bond that helps them both achieve what they most wish in life and it's sweet and heart-warming. It's short but it's all that is really needed to get to know them, see progress in them and follow them in an important part of their lives.
Let's start with the drawings: they're absolutely magnificent! They're the kind of illustrations I love, very dreamlike, especially in the moments set to music.
The story itself is very touching and adorable, I found Victor and Marie very interesting and I really enjoyed their dynamic and sweet relationship. I’d have loved to see more of Victor though…
However, I regret that we don't go any further and that the comic remains on the surface of many things. In particular, certain questions or plots are simply abandoned or left unexplained, which is a shame, as if the authors hadn't taken the time to finish what they'd started.
But it's still a great read about adolescence.
Such a sweet story! I fell in love with the young protagonists helping each other. Victor accepted her disease and was ready to help immediately, Victor and his dad’s relationship was so sweet. I highly recommend this book. The art is beautiful as well. I loved seeing how it changed to show her vision changing.
This was beautiful both the art style and the story itself.
It's heartwarming and comforting.
In recap a beautiful graphic novel.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for the chance to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
Such a cute book cover and a quick read that I really enjoyed! It was nice to see the characters connect in an honest and deep way. A sweet story I’d recommend everyone check out. Thanks to NetGalley and the Publisher for the arc.
