Alison meets Rebecca and both women are due their babies on the same date. What starts as a normal scenario and friendship suddenly takes a twist when Rebecca mysteriously vanishes from Alison's life. Alison then tracks Rebecca down through concern, only to discover that Rebecca is not pregnant. Has Alison imagined everything or is there something more sinister going on? This had me guessing until the end and I really enjoyed the entire story.
Well I’m a little bit speechless. What an absolutely brilliant book from the beginning, right up to the end!
This book held so much promise but, after awhile I found everything a little unbelievable. I didn't like the women at all. And, the whole book just seemed to get implausible. My thanks to netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.
A chilling psychological thriller that explores the horrors that can lurk behind seemingly perfect facades, with a gripping narrative and a shocking final twist.
Gripping story, full of twists.
Thank you NetGalley for my complimentary copy in return for my honest review.
This book had me gripped from the start the author has done a fantastic job of drawing you in keeping you hooked keeping you guessing and then wow a massive twist and your gasping like a fish on a hook amazing loved
This book had so much promise, but I found it implausibly twisty and difficult to follow. Unfortunately, it made it rather predictable as you knew that, given a ridiculous scenario, the more ridiculous would be the path taken.
I did enjoy the story, but it could have been better. Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this book.
Thank you for this arc in exchange for an honest review.
Having read the synopsis, I was keen to read this book. It started well, being easy to get into, easy to follow and plenty of intrigue. My opinion gradually changed as I continued reading. I found in places, it was difficult to follow, and the plot was getting increasingly unbelievably twisty. My eagerness to continue reading started to dwindle too, although not enough to stop reading to the end.
I did guess how the story was likely to pan out, and it left me feeling a bit deflated.
This book was definitely interesting but I found the storyline frustrating and sometimes annoying. It was a bit farfetched and implausible. Sorry but not one for me.
This is the first book I’ve read by the author and overall I enjoyed it. I would say it was an easy to read with enough twists to keep your interest. The ending was a good enough twist and I would certainly read further books by the author.
Great plot and storytelling with it all gradually falling into place, with twists right up until the end. Recommended read
Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for a chance to read this for my honest opinion.
This novel was all consuming for the most part but it struggles with both pacing and feasibility. I did finish it despite this and while the beginning was a great thriller read the end made it a little impossible to enjoy as a whole.
This is a complex story with so many twists that I found it difficult to decide who was telling the truth . Good story and well worth a read
Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this ARC in return for an honest review
The Due Date was a fast paced thriller that kept me hooked from beginning to end. There were a few occasions which felt a little drawn out but they did not detract from my enjoyment of the story.
Thank you to NetGalley and Headline for my ARC.
I was completely absorbed by this book for about 70% and then it lost all credibility. What a disappointment when I was sure it was going to be at least a four star review now to be struggling between two and three. There are twists you would never guess ( well at least I didn’t ) but that’s more because they are so unbelievable. Some interesting characters so not a total waste of a read but just not for me.
This was a fast paced book with some twisted characters it was hard to tell who was telling the truth would definitely recommend if you like a good psychological thriller
What a great book. Wow, fast paced, edgy and a great psychological thriller.
Ali is pregnant when she meets Rebecca at the park, they befriend each other, but Rebecca had a secret. Ali has her baby early, when it’s Rebecca’s due date approaching she ghosts Ali. Why?
Fantastic read that will make you read in one sitting. Great characters and a great plot with a great twist.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for a copy.
This was the first book by this author that I've read and it won't be the last. Full of different time lines, twists and turns this book kept me guessing right up to the very end. The story was not quite what I expected but that was why I enjoyed it so much. A real page turner that will keep you hooked!
This is the first book I’ve read from Niki Mackay but I rather enjoyed it!! It was so easy to read and kept you gripped throughout.. I’m normally really good at figuring at the plot twists but I didn’t on this one which I was impressed with.. Had some very good twist and turns.. The ending was not expected.. This has definitely inspired me to look out for more work by Niki..
Thankyou to Netgalley and Headline for sending me this book to review.
Alison and Dan are expecting their first child and are looking forward to becoming a family but, having not long moved house and with Dan working long hours, Ali finds herself missing having friends around her. Then she meets Rebecca, a successful barrister who is also pregnant and due the same date as Ali, they immediately form a friendship and start spending time together. Ali's baby arrives early and Rebecca is over the moon for her but, as the due date for Rebecca's baby passes, Ali's messages to her go unanswered and she starts to worry that something has happened. When she finally manages to track her down Rebecca is no longer pregnant, denies ever being pregnant and claims she's never met Ali before, but she's certain her new friend is hiding something and Alison is determined to find out what it is.
The Due Date is told from the perspectives of the main characters and across various timelines. It's a fast paced domestic thriller with an intriguing plot that draws you in right from the start and develops many twists along the way, the story is, at times, complex and one you have to concentrate on with the differing timelines, to avoid confusion. The drama centres mainly around Ali and Rebecca, with another yet unknown character slowly coming into the story and we learn more about them further down the line. Mackay is a new author for me but she certainly knows how to weave a tale which kept me guessing throughout and I devoured this book in a matter of hours, I will definitely be looking out for more of her work in the future.
I'd like to thank Headline and Netgalley for the approval, I will post my review on Goodreads now and Amazon on publication day.
