10/10 I loved this book! But I would KILL to have an audiobook version of this!
I'm not usually a friends-to-lovers fan but throwing in the best friends sister element made this sooo good! The romance is very sweet and there is spice but nothing crazy.

This is a delightful read for fans of lighthearted, humorous romance, particularly those who enjoy friends-to-lovers stories, small-town settings, and steamy, comedic takes on the "virgin to lover" trope.

"Kilt to Order" is a perfect blend of spicy romance and sweet moments, featuring a found family of muscly men in kilts and a protective playboy falling for a spunky bookworm. If you love a good romcom with a guaranteed HEA, this book is for you!

Oh man I loved this roommates to lovers/ take my virginity/ its cool we wont fall in love novel. Casey and Gareth were so cute and funny together and Gareth is the perfect golden retriever to "take care" of Casey! Easy read and something I would absolutely recommend to others wanting to pick up a steamy but heartfelt summer read.

Kilt to Order was such a great read! I haven't read Susannah Nix before, but I have several of her books on my Kindle and I've had her recommended to me in the past. Receiving an ARC of this made her a priority for me and she is a new to me author that I can't wait to read more from. Kilt to Order follows Gareth and Casey. Gareth is a firefighter and a Highland Games participant and Casey is his best friend's sister, a shy bookworm, and a virgin.

Spicy lessons are *chefs kiss* and this book delivered on everything I wanted. And it has kilts. Need I really say any more? If you're looking for something without a third act break-up (I love them but this one was too sweet not to love!) and that will make you laugh out loud while reading, this is the book to pick up!

Laugh-out-loud rom com with both depth and spice!

✨ Book Review: KILT TO ORDER by Susannah Nix

📚 Book Synopsis: Casey Goodrich is 28 and a virgin, but not by choice. Desperate for experience, and having made her lack of it into a bit of a mental block, she turns to her trusted roommate and brother’s best friend, Gareth Kelly. Gareth is a firefighter and Highland Games athlete who is used to female attention. When he realizes Casey will go anywhere to break her life-long “dry spell,” he agrees to help. But going from friends and roommates to more poses the risk for both Casey and Gareth of growing feelings and attachment.

🚒 My Take: This books was hilarious—I love Casey’s voice and wit! Plus, Gareth is a total sweetheart and his backstory in particular has strong depth. The romance was believable to me and I adore how both characters grow through their time together.

Read KILT TO ORDER for

I usually try to skip books about friends-to-lovers where one friend sleeps around and avoids commitment, and the other is a self-conscious virgin. There are so many horrific pitfalls to avoid, and the story always ends the same way. Thankfully, Kilt to Order seems to be (mostly) an exception.

Maybe it’s because Casey is bookish or because Gareth is already open and nurturing, but the obstacles for these two to fall together seem relatively easy to overcome. They make the usual mistakes, like promising that nothing will ruin their friendship and trying to hide their feelings, but with the help of some pushy friends, these two problems are very quickly ignored and don’t become major plot devices to keep them apart.

"'I'm terrific. Just trying to make my peace with being a virgin forever.'

She pulls me into a crushing hug. 'The entire concept of virginity is an artificial construct of the patriarchy used to shame and control women. There's no physical difference between a woman who's had sex and a woman who hasn't. Not to mention how heteronormative it is to frame the act of sex around vaginal penetration.'

'I know,' I say when she releases me and I can breathe again. 'But none of that changes the fact that I'd still like to get laid at some point in my life.'"

Overall, the spice is pretty vanilla, and Casey’s first time is, of course, magically perfect. Still, the romance is sweet and seeing these two kind people give in to their feelings and learn how to be in a relationship together is heartwarming. Nix manages to skip over unnecessary jealousy or lack of communication tropes and allows things to develop naturally. Some things are going on in the background that allow for time to pass but don’t distract too much from the romance - I do wish we explored some of these threads a little further, but I am hoping that they may be picked up later in the series. It will be interesting to see if the next book is as achingly sweet or if we may move a little further out of virgin territory. Either way, I would be interested in reading more.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
HEA: yes
spice: open-door spicy scenes
TWs: death of a parent (off-page, recounted), car accident (non-fatal), anxiety, house fire (non-fatal)
standalone: yes
final thoughts: I had so much fun reading this book! Our FMC is 26 years old and still a virgin who has only had 1 kiss. She’s looking to have this changed ASAP and who better to ask to show her the steamy ropes than her rakish roommate (who just so happens to be her brother’s best friend). Their friendship is adorable, their romance is steamy, their storyline was great. Overall, I really liked this book and felt so wrapped up in their story. I would love to see stories about the rest of the roommates too 👀

Love this one!! Roommate/Brother's Best Friend romance and was funny and cute and just spicy enough! Susannah Nix is great at giving us that balance. Watching the playboy struggle and come to terms with his feelings for the shy, innocent bff's little sister while helping her lose her v-card is the most wholesome (well as much as it can be while being simultaneously filthy) thing. Having the whole "everyone is aware that they were made for each other but them" trope tied in was such a refreshing addition to this brother's best friend story.

An absolutely delightful read by one of my favorite rom-com authors. Ms Nix always writes such fun, sweet, and refreshing stories and this one was no different. Casey is a bookworm and doesn't have much experience in the intimacy department. She's 28-years-old and figures it's time she changes that. But she doesn't trust just anyone to help her out. She thinks Gareth, a super-hot Highland Games athlete/firefighter is the perfect person to give her some hands-on experience. He is her brother's best friend and also her roommate, and she knows she can feel safe with him and he will take good care of her. Gareth is a one-night stand kind of guy, not interested in having relationships, and when Casey propositions him, he is reluctant at first, but ultimately agrees and takes extra care to make her feel special and boost her confidence. Somewhere along the way though, helping out a friend began to mean so much more, and when their lessons are close to ending, Gareth begins to think that maybe the whole relationship thing wouldn't be so bad, especially if it were with Casey.
Such a heartwarming and delightful story! I absolutely loved the characters, they were well-developed and had such depth, especially Gareth. He took such care in making Casey feel safe and confident, and always looked out for her. I enjoyed seeing Casey's growth and how she was finally starting to feel comfortable in her own skin.
A very well-done story - absolutely loved it and highly recommend!

TWs - death of parent, absentee parent, car accident of an MC (not fatal though), anxiety, panic attacks

This book absolutely kicked it out of the park for me! Who doesn’t love a brothers best friend/friends to lovers trope? This book gave me all the feels and I think I’ve got a bit of a book hangover now that it’s over.

Our heroine approaches her brother’s best friends and asks him to take her V-card because she’s sick of hanging onto it! At first her rejects the thought but then can’t bear the thought of her choosing someone else. And let’s just say that what follows is some serious 🔥🔥🔥🔥.

I loved how the friendship between the two main characters was a tangible thing so going from friends to lovers only depended their relationship. Both characters had a lot of depth and both had to go through their own journey to be what the other needed. This book had heart and steam and I honestly couldn’t put it down!

Thank you to the author and Author Collective 20 for the gifted book! ❤️ #gifted. My review is comprised of my honest thoughts.

Read this book if you like: Dual POV, friends to lovers, nerd/jock, roomies, best friend's sister, virgin (adult), spicy 🔥

Yessss. I loved this so freaking much. I love how Gareth is to Casey. He's so gentle and sweet. This was charming, funny, and, of course sexy. The couple and side characters are so well developed. Susannah's books are always so fun and light. I highly recommend it!

mf - contemporary romance - white MCs - moderate steam - POV: first dual - best friends to lover - roommates to lovers - child free - curvy FMC - forced proximity - mutual pining - one night stand - relationship coach - sibling’s best friend - small town - virgin FMC - 4 stars. This is a very trope heavy, romance-forward book. There’s not much outside plot. I liked the hero very much, but i thought the both of them read younger than upper twenties. Her insecurities and virginity are a big plot point.

Casey is not yet thirty, but she feels like her prankster brother’s mother most of the time. She is always ensuring everyone has what they need, but ignoring her own and she’s lonely as a result. She decides it’s past time to find someone to rid her of her virginity.

Gareth is her brother’s best friend and somewhat a ladies’ man. He’s working as a firefighter while trying to earn his degree and still making time for the Highland Games.

Casey propositions him and he thinks it’s everything he wants - they’ll be together with no strings and stay friends.

This one was a fun one! Highly recommend and thanks to Netgalley for the ARC

This was super cute - I loved how both Casey and Gareth had their own strengths and weakness and that they made each other stronger. I loved how Gareth and Casey supported each other in their dreams and what they wanted out of their relationship. I also loved the found family troupe between Casey, her brother, and their two roommates - they all acted like family and I want to read more of them in the future. Overall I think this book is fantastic for lovers of rom-coms, main characters who love to read, and small-town romance.

I am a sucker for these kinds of romance books! I devoured it and wanted more of the story. I will need to see what other books this author has written and make sure to watch out for whatever they publish next!

Initially I thought this was going to be primarily emotionally immature men living with a woman who does all the cleaning and they can’t pick up their socks. It got better when I found out one of them does the cooking and grocery ordering so my inner feminist calmed down. Still, I thought they all were pretty immature.

That aside, I enjoyed the story itself. Casey was a little too “I’m clumsy and awkward and bookish so I’m not like other girls” at first but that also resolved and was at no point the cause of her having a negative relationship with other women. In fact, one of my favorite aspects of this book was the community feel of it. Everyone had great friends and support. Healthy girl relationships that passed the bechdel test and all that. And guy friendships that were supportive as well.

Casey and Garett had good chemistry. They took turns taking care of each other. Emotionally and physically.

All in all, this was a sweet story. There was no true third act breakup, just some emotional turmoil to get through, which I prefer. Several funny moments. Good, fleshed our community and growth for them together and individually.

Would have liked Garett to have promised to go to therapy because all I can picture is him being too emotionally needy because he can’t figure it out on his own. So let’s hope.
