What another cute book by Susannah Nix! This book was pretty low on the drama but high on the sweetness and steam! I love a good brothers best friend, sex-guide, virgin story. Throw in a hot firefighter and Highland Games in the great state of Texas, and you have a delightful read. Definitely recommend if you want a low stakes, good feels read with a happy ending and no third act breakup!

I am a Fan of Susannah Nix and her style of writing. I am hooked on reading the King Family series and loved every book out in it so far that when I found out there is a spinoff from the King Family series I just had to get my hands on it. I am so grateful to the author, NetGalley, and the publisher for the ARC and the opportunity to read and review this book.

I loved both characters. I loved the healthy communication between the characters and their growth and I was swooning and melting for the way they were falling for each other. I loved that the characters were more adult characters as opposed to having young adult characters like in other books that I have read
- Casey - An "Inexperienced" Female Maine Character on a mission to gain "experience". She is also an avid reader and a bookstagrammer who is dreaming to work in a bookstore. Who wouldn't yeah? She was so relatable.
- Garreth - A renowned playboy overprotective firefighter male main character who turns into a love coach. A muscly man in kilts with blue eyes…gah every girl's fantasy aint it? This man is soo sweet and caring and hot and sexy at the same time I couldn't get enough of him.

This started off slow but 30% in I couldn't seem to put it down. The banter, the steam, the angst…this book just ticked all the boxes for me.
- Dual POV
- Small-town romance
- New Adult sports romance
- Scottish Highland Games
- Forced proximity as they were roommates
- Brother's best friend (oh my word don't get me started on this I love the sneaking around)
- Roommates to lovers
- Friends to lovers
- A somewhat slow-burn budding romance
- He said it first (and the way it slipped out woah)
- Love lessons/lessons in seduction and hands-on practicals ;)
- Found family
- Open-door romance with a happily ever after

I just enjoyed this book it had me laughing and swooning right throughout from the very first chapter. Definitely, a book you could read in a day.

I loved the references to Taylor Swift's songs in the book it was so timely and appropriate with the recent release by the singer.
There were so many quotable conversations in the book and I am a sucker for quotes.

Omw I did not see that twist coming but it sealed the deal between the couple I loved this plot twist. Just what I wanted but didn't know that I needed it at the right time in the book. Oh, my word my heart!

Absolutely a must-read. I cannot wait to see what's to come in the next instalment of the series.

My Rating: 4.5⭐️

Back to Crowder, Texas and this time we're meeting up with the Highland Games Crew!

Casey is the good girl to her brothers prankster. She's 28 but feels like the house mother most of the time. She's the one organising her brother and best friends - making sure they have all they need, get where they're supposed to be and generally act like civilised human beings! But she is also lonely. She's never had a relationship and never been "intimate" with anyone. She's determined to break this streak of loneliness and sets out to find someone to take her dratted v-card.

Gareth is a fireman, her brothers best friend and a bit of a playboy. But he has hidden depths and is trying to get his degree while still working and taking part in the Highland Games. But a personal request from Casey is making all his fantasies come true. A chance to be with Casey, no strings and they still come out as friends in the end? He'll take that deal.

Gareth may have been a bit of a player but he always makes sure his partner has a fabulous time. Intimacy with Casey comes easily and they're both breaking their self-imposed rules before too long. One of my favourite scenes was Casey at a party and Gareth turning up to take her home, fireman-style! The chat about no-one caring about her being taken away hit me straight in the heart.

Surprised positively.
I thought this would be a typical brother losing shit over his best friend and sister dating but the whole family expected their relationship (wish I'd known how). They were good friends but Casey was desperate to lose her V so she asked her friend and roommate.
They started slowly until it escalated. No drama, though I wished someone else was hitting on Casey so Gareth would get jealous. I kind of expected the main reason when everything went sideways.
I loved how they talked through it and how connected they were, all lovey-dovey and shit.

Gareth Kelly has completely won my heart🛐

This book had me won simply because of the wonderful cover but from the first moment you get into its pages you can't stop reading, it's addictive, the story of Casey and how he feels and decides to ask for help to Gareth? Give me all the books of that trope, but on top of that seeing that it is so good and so funny makes the book a 10!!!

I'm just going to recommend this story to everyone because what a genius, for me has ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

Kilt to Order by Susannah Nix is an enthralling and delightful addition to the brother's best friend romance trope. Set in a small town, this story beautifully captures the essence of forced proximity angst between the charming firefighter and Highland Games athlete, Gareth, and his nerdy, introverted roommate, Casey. When Casey seeks Gareth's help to gain some love experience, little did they both know that their journey together would lead to unexpected twists and turns. The chemistry between the characters sizzles on the pages as their friendship evolves into something deeper. Gareth's supportive and gentle demeanor towards Casey makes their romance all the more heartwarming. The witty banter and emotional depth of the characters keep the readers hooked until the satisfying HEA. Kilt to Order is a fun, steamy, and endearing story that leaves a smile on your face long after the last page.

Kilt to Order by Susannah Nix
Status: Available Now, Not KU
Reading Method: ARC via @netgalley

📖 🎧 Writing &/or Audio Style : This novel was written in first person/dual POV and I found the Author’s Voice very readable, one of those reads you pick up and can get instantly into the story.

👥 Characters & Relationships: I really liked Gareth and Casey both as characters and a couple. I found Casey relatable in a number of ways (and like us she enjoys the bookstagram).

⁉️Plot, Intrigue & Logic: I consider this a very good palate cleanser. It’s not the kind of novel that’s going to change your life, but if you need a light funny read I really enjoyed it. Virgin Heroine is not my favorite trope for a few reasons especially friends-to-lovers but I didn’t mind it here.

🏞️Atmosphere & Setting: Despite what the cover may have you believe, this story was set in Texas and not a whole lot of time was spent in kilts.

🥰Enjoyment: Overall this was a fun enjoyable read. I’d been on a streak of clean reads so it was a delight to get a little spice back in my books. I look forward to more from this author.

🚨 For Reader Awareness: this is not a trigger warning I would have thought I’d ever be calling out, but this novel includes a scene in which Pizza is made with Cheddar Jack cheese. This is a crime against Italy and I believed my readers needed to know.

📣Recommended for: Romcom lovers who like at least a bit of spice in their reads

I loved this book!!! I love, love, LOVE Casey and Gareth! They are the most perfect, beautiful couple who have the sweetest relationship development from friends-to-lovers as Gareth gives Casey intimacy "lessons" while he, of course, is so in love with her! I relate to Casey SO MUCH!!! As a late bloomer myself, I totally felt the stigmatization around sex-culture, it being "weird" to be inexperienced as an adult, etc. I loved how Gareth treated her so lovingly, respected her autonomy, gave her so much time and space to get as comfortable as possible, while also not treating her as a porcelain china doll that could break when touched. This was the sweetest, spiciest, loveliest story! Perfect blend of The Cheat Sheet and Fix Her Up!!!!
Thank you for the ARC!!!

Thank you Netgalley for the ARC!

This was a fun romcom! Kilt to Order had my favorite trope: brothers best friend 🔥 there’s just something about the forbidden of it that just sends me 🤩 I loved getting dual POV, the forced proximity, the *lessons* and just the fun of this book! It was classic romcom cheese which is what I needed after reading some dark AF books lately 🙃 this is a fun one to pick up when you need a little bit of sunshine ☺️

Best friends meets benefits here when Casey talks her roommate into giving her some experiences she has never had before!

Was it cliche? A bit. Did I still gobble this up on a day? Also yes!!!

This is a book in the highland game series but can be read standalone.

The steam and banter was so addictive and I didn't want this to stop. Thank you to the author for an early ecopy of this one. It's available now!

This book falls into the brother's best friend's romance trope and I really enjoyed it. They are also roommates so there is that forced proximity angst as well. Gareth is a firefighter and participates in the Highland Games but he is still completely caught off guard when his introverted roommate Casey propositions him for lessons in love. Gareth doesn't know if this is such a good idea but he most assuredly does not want Casey approaching some other guy. Naturally, chaos ensues and as things get spicier they both begin to realize that there might be more between them than just lessons. I loved how gentle and supportive Gareth was with Casey.

This unfortunately was not the book for me. It's not a bad book, there was just something about the main couple that didn't click with me, so I found myself not caring about them as individuals let alone as a couple. Some more content about the Highland Games would've been cool! If you like reading about millennial characters and small town vibes you might like this!

When Casey asks her friend and roommate Gareth for love lessons, she gets more than she bargains for when they both develop feelings.

Such a sweet story this was. And boy, was it steamy! I loved how gentle Gareth was with Casey and how he overcame his own issues with his past to better his own future. I adore Susannah Nix's books and getting another glimpse into Crowder Texas where we get exposure to characters from previous books. I'm also excited to read a new novel by her. If you love a good romcom and haven't yet read one of her books, I highly recommend picking one up.

I have to start off by saying, this book just may have gotten me on the brother’s best friend troupe bandwagon….finally! It was that good!

The book follows Casey a 28 year old bookish wallflower who is inexperienced in bed, on her quest to be more experienced in the bedroom. She enlists the help of her much more experienced roommate Gareth, who just so happens to be a well known athlete, a hot firefighter, AND HER BROTHER’S BEST FRIEND for sex lessons! Chaos and some spice 🌶️🌶️ ensues and the rest is history!!

And if that wasn’t enough this books also has about every troupe a gal like me could want:
✨Forced Proximity
✨Dual POV
✨Roommate/Friends-Lovers
✨Introvert vs. Extrovert
✨Firefighter MMC
And of course
✨Brother’s Best Friend

Special thanks to Netgalley and Susannah Nix for a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review!

Kilt to Order hits on so many of my favorite things. It's a small town rom-com with a bookish heroine, a firefighter hero, and a great friends-to-lovers setup.

I really enjoyed Casey, largely because I could really see my younger self in her character. Gareth is just a big old teddy bear, and how can you not love that? There's good personal growth in this story for both characters, but I especially enjoyed seeing Casey start to come into her own and find her way. The way Gareth supported her along the way and found ways to push her out of her comfort zone without overwhelming her was just <swoon>.

If you're looking for a light, fun read with both sweetness and spice, Casey and Gareth won't disappoint!

Kilt to Order by Susannah Nix

"Beauty is skin deep", I absolutely love how Susannah Nix breaks all the rules with this book. She's on a mission to live her best life, while her brother's best friend is determined to keep her in a straight line. When it comes to love, they are bond to sail to a miseray of "no" and possibly "how". Definitely one of my favorite reads! 10/10

A rom com with a firefighter and a bookworm in a small town? Sign me up! I enjoyed the build up of their friendship to lovers. The characters were very relatable. I’m excited that this was the first of a new series that I’ll definitely be looking out for. A fun and light read! Thank you NetGalley and Author Collective 20 for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

Kilt to Order by @susannahnixauthor is both hilarious and sexy!

Blurb: A nerdy wallflower recruits her athlete roommate to give her love lessons.

As a Highland Games athlete and firefighter, I’m used to women trying to get under my kilt. But I never expected to be propositioned by my bookworm roommate.

Casey’s one of my best friends and my buddy’s younger sister. What am I supposed to do when she confesses that she’s on a mission to lose her virginity—and I’m the guy she trusts to do the deed?

If I say no, she’ll only turn to another dude instead. Someone’s got to keep her out of trouble, so I agree to give her some hands-on experience. A little friends-with-benefits action shouldn’t be a problem. I can teach Casey how to bring a man to his knees and still keep things platonic.

Uh, yeah. Small problem. The more boxes we check off on Casey’s lesson plan, the more I realize I’ve taught her too well.

Because the man she’s bringing to his knees is me.

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

This was such a cute read!!! I loved learning about the relationship between Casey and Gareth. They were perfect as friends, but the build-up towards more was so worth it!!! I also enjoyed the Highland Games aspect of the story, plus the MMCs were firefighters. Please give this book a read when it releases on July 25th, 2023!!! Thank you @netgalley for giving me the opportunity to review this ARC. ☺️💚✨

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for approving me for this arc!

I really wanted to love this so much more than I did. I wanted the Scottish aspect to work so much better but it didn’t connect for me. Being Scottish I love that sort of thing but it just didn’t work in the best way which put me off and I couldn’t connect with the characters or anything that really went on unfortunately.

This was a cute friends to lovers rom com! Can be read as a stand-alone and is the first in a new series, but I would suggest reading the King Family series by Susannah Nix first just for a little background on some of the other side characters in this book! Some of the tropes include brothers best friend and forced proximity. Overall a fun read and looking forward to more from this series!
