This series is pure gold, and always good for a laugh.
If you enjoy cozy fantasy (think Klune and Baldree) them give this series a try.
I adore the Meads Mishap series and this was no exception. This whimsical romp was all I wanted from this cosy fantasy title, the mixture of humour and paranormal relationships is my kryptonite. Cozy fantasy is a sub genre that needs far more hype than it has been given so far and the audiobook edition of this particular tale is so engaging.
Yes, I had heard about the Lemming books, that they were endlessly humorous and incredibly fantastic, so of course I picked this book up to listen to when I got the chance. But I probably don't have the necessary sense of humor, or I'm used to a different kind of fantasy, because for me, both were missing here.
So the story is about a girl who is imprisoned in a dragon's castle, where all comforts are available to her, and the only thing she does not have is the freedom to walk away, because the castle is somewhere very cold.
One night, the dragon is visited by a "handsome young man" who "saves" our heroine, but then it turns out that this young man is also a scaled, winged creature that sometimes spits fire, and ifs he feels like his soulmate, then of course he protects her especially violently.
But the girl is not some wilting flower. Oh no, even though she's human, she has a soul worthy of a dragon. And then it turns out that her sister, during the years of her imprisonment, has married another paranormal creature (one of the previous books in the series) and together they are ready for anything.
In short, such a normal paranormal love story, where everything starts with enemies and ends with lovers who are ready to conquer the whole world for each other.
Yes, there are some giggle worthy moments, but it's definitely not one endless giggle. So, it's not my kind of humorous fantasy.
I'm not sure this is my thing... Fantasy romance with some smut. IMO this was a case of Stockholm Syndrome. It kinda gave me Beauty and the Beast vibes.
This was a very enjoyable book! The ARC was an audiobook and I found it relaxing to stick it on in the evening and play a game on my phone as the audiobook played in the background. I loved the characters and how it played on from previous books in the series, and the love story was very fun and well-written. I’d definitely recommend this to any romantasy fans, or fans of the previous books!
The chemistry between these characters and the overall hilarity of the situation was exactly what I expected from a book with that title. Was it the smartest decision to start with this book? Probably not, since there were mentions of characters and backstory that I wasn't familiar with. However, this one was isolated enough that it didn't hurt my enjoyment of a the story. I will definitely be checking out the rest of the series and more by this author in the future.
Pick this up if you're in search of a fun, yet spicy, monster loving story - BUT BLACK!
Narrated by Hazel Addison is a perfect example where a voice embodies a character, and Hazel did not miss a single joke in the third book of the Mead Mishap series! Dante was absolutely hopeless and I see why he fell in love with Cherry. There were moments where I was laughing out loud in hysterics and other moments where the room felt too warm. Overall Kimberly really smashed it with this book!
Full of humor and heart, I love this series and this final one was just as great as the others! These books, they are so addicting, charming and fun! For anyone who enjoyed the first two books in the series, this one reads similarly but with new characters and places to explore.
Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for providing me with an arc of this title in exchange for this honest review.
A very fun and enjoyable read. Not sure what else to say about it but i warmly reccomend it.
This book was a fun(nier than I expected), sexy, cosy fantasy-romance.
I’ve not read any of the other books in the series, but I wouldn’t be opposed to trying them after having read one. It felt like a really well fleshed-out world and I would be interested to see where these characters fit geographically, socially etc. I thought the non-humans must be fun to read more about too.
I liked the relationship between the two main characters, how, despite one’s immediate love? lust? for the other, there was still room for a romance to authentically blossom. They respected each other’s decisions and seemed to genuinely like each other.
I feel like I must have missed a paragraph or two at the end because it felt to me like it was suddenly resolved, but I did still enjoy it.
2 stars
I liked book one. Book two I loved but this one... It's not my favorite at all.
I didn't like the heroine, and eventho our hero, Dante, intrigued me, it was not enough for me to care about them as a couple.
This book is low stakes, and that didn't work for me either. I needed something to happen for me to feel engaged with the story, and it didn't, so I grew bored with it around 75%.
Do I like this author's writing? Yes! And I'll definitely read more from them. Also, the narration was fantastic, and it helped the book a lot, so there's that.
Overall, this one was a missed for me.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for the chance to listen to this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
I've loved each book in this series so far, and book 3 did not disappoint. Absolutely charming, and so much fun, with cameos from earlier couples, this book was a joy to listen to in audio.
highlights:
- the guys teaching Dante how to handle humans
- 'oh you're nice maybe i shouldn't drug you? oop too late'
- talking sword makes a reappearance
- 'i like you, lets vibe' energy
- 'i know we're mates, you'll catch on when you're ready' we love a confident Hero
- flying under the influence
- reunions
- 'we're perfect for each other what a coincidence'
overall a 4/5, would read/listen again
It was a funny and cute read! There were times i died laughing and it was just amazing. Has a summurie vibe and the characters were good. Dan was such a loving character!! I havent read the first two books but got really interested
Another amazing and fun edition to the Mead Mishaps series!
The characters were spot on - I absolutely loved Dante and Cherry and as always it was great to catch up with the existing characters. There was some good character development for both characters but particularly Dante has come a long way from when we first met his character.
A fresh story filled with a mixture of pure hilariousness, and spicy romance with a dash of danger!
If you love a book that's lighthearted but adventurous and spicy definitely check this series out!
I received an ARC copy of this book from Netgalley in return for an honest review.
I have previously read Kimberley lemmings books and they are a fun romp of magic and romance. This was no exception. It was enjoyable to listen to as I went about my day. The narrator was easy to listen to and I found the whole story so easy to get into. It felt like it went by so quickly!
Fun, magical, sexy; what more could I want?
Fun addition to the Mead Mishaps series. This one was BY FAR my favouurite.
I think it’s because I was already very familiar with the world and knew almost all of the characters.
Loved how Dante is very aware of his actions around Princess and does his best to assure her that he isn't actually a monster.
Slow burn romance, which was a nice change from the 2nd book.
Would love more of an epilogue, especially considering how it ended.
Fingers crossed we get more of these characters and see them all interacting.
Narrator did an excellent job as always. Noticed a slip up where the wrong name was used. Hope they catch it before release, but it wasn’t too jarring.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for an audio ARC.
Gosh where do I start.
The narrators voice was very pleasant to listen to and spoke clearly and precise enough that I didn't have any trouble hearing throughout the book. Her accents and voices for each character helped to bring the book alive and made me want to keep on listening. Got through it in 2 days.
The book itself was my first introduction to this author and the world building, I'm aware that there are previous books in this series but I was grateful to find that I could read this as a standalone first. There are a few spoilers for previous books but nothing major.
Spice levels were just perfect.
I will be going to read the previous books right away.
Rating 2.5
I was sent the audiobook version of this title from Netgalley and Quercus Audio in exchange for an honest review.
Cherry has been held captive for a dragon for 5 years by a dragon. But when another dragon comes along, saves her, and instantly falls for her, Cherry's world is turned upside down.
A cute, quirky, and quick read. I'd seen a lot of this book series around social media and was excited when I received the audibook version. Though I didn't find myself as interested in the book as I would have liked. The elements of fantasy helped to draw me in. I found that I wasn't that invested or pulled in with Dante and Cherry's relationship, and I realised I was getting easily distracted from the book, which is not like me.
Don't get me wrong, there were fun elements to this book, but the plot and chemistry between the main characters was scarce or unbelievable.
I quite liked Dante's personality, although I found his instalove a bit too much at times.
Cherry had a fun, quirky attitude, but I would have liked to see more depth as I kept forgetting that she had been locked away for 5 YEARS!!! I would have thought that would have been touched upon more and how Dante would help her overcome her trauma. Instead, Cherry was more interested in Dante's treasure. Maybe I'm looking more into this than I should. Overall, if you're looking for a quick and spicy read, then this is for you.
My thoughts on the audiobook narrator, I thought they brought a lot of energy to the story, though listening to the audiobook, I found it difficult sometimes to differentiate between different characters. The narrator was able to differentiate between masculine and feminine voices, but unless these two characters were having an interaction, I was unable to tell the difference unless stated. In my opinion, I feel that the dual POV should have had different narrators to add another layer to the experience. To summarise, the narrator was quirky and energetic, but I couldn't get around how they kept saying 'eXscape' instead of 'escape'
Dante, a dragon shifter is ready to find his fated mate.
Lucky for him, he runs into Cherry, a sarcastic human farm girl who has been trapped on an island by a sea dragon for the past 5 years. Though for him, it’s love at first.. Whiff.. Cherry has trust issues with dragons. Specifically for being imprisoned on an island by one for 5 years. Cherry uses Dante as an escape plan by drugging him and asking him to take her away from the island (something he was going to do anyway) Overwhelmed by being around a very attractive man.. Or any many, Cherry unknowing enters into a marriage pact with Dante. When she realizes what’s happened, she has to decide if she can trust this sexy dragon shifter with the fate of her family, or if she should just run away. “Fate is such a bitch.”
As the third book in the Mead Mishap Series, there is no way it can disappoint. Author Kimberly Lemming, hilarious dialog is not only entertaining, but somehow cozy? And the spice in this is picante! Great for any cozy fantasy readers who are looking for some wit and spice.
I love, love, loved it! I stumbled upon Kimberly Lemming last year when I was intrigued by her book titles, and I've never looked back. I love the way she mixes romance, heart and humour into her stories, and I'm always so fascinated by the quirky little quests our characters go on. Grumpy Dante is a simp, Cherry is a fiesty delight, and Fallon popping in and being a menace to Dante was the best. The same charm I loved in the previous books exists here, so if you're looking for a lighthearted fantasy story with a bit of spice, I can't recommend these books enough.
10/10 for the narrator. I loved how much life she gave these characters, and thought she did a great job of making the banter feel natural and real. She really bought all of Cherry's sass to life and I was living for it. So good.
Recommend starting with That Time I Got Drunk and Saved a Demon so you can build a relationship with this world and these characters.
