A wonderful walk throughChristopher”s life. It felt like he was holding your hand as you moved through the pages. Such a terrible loss.
This book has my heart.
I have been a fan of Chris Fowler’s work for about as long as I can remember. From the supernatural horror books to the crime novels and the non-fiction, I’ve never read one that I didn’t love (and I’m pretty sure I’ve now read all of them). So, you could say I was a bit biased going into this one. I was hesitant at first – I had been lucky enough in life to have known Chris just a little (I called us besties, but in reality it was more like acquaintances) and I thought that this book – published after his death - was going to be harder to read than the others. But that wasn’t the case. In fact, I devoured it. Part memoir, part advice/recommendations on writing and life, this is a story that takes you on one hell of a rollercoaster of emotions. Yeah parts of it are incredibly sad but it is also filled with so much humour and love and joy. I learnt so much reading this and took so many screenshots (I only had this netgalley version to read at that point) as I went through of books and Authors that I now need to read. Chris’ love of the word and stories shines like a light off every page and I’m so glad that this book exists in the world. But oh how I still would have love to be able to read that Dark Ages one… That’s Chris – always leaves you wanting more.
