That question continues throughout the book: How did the hippopotamus get in the treehouse? In the kitchen? In the fireplace? Sophie has always wanted a pet hippopotamus, but Mom and Dad are unconvinced. Kyana Mitchell's colorful and detailed illustrations are hilarious; I cannot imagine the story without them. While reading this, I found myself humming the song, "I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas"! I love this story and was delighted to discover there is a follow-up book. Sophia and her Hippopotamus Fred deserve to have more of their adventures told.

This is such a fun and vibrant story. I love the full color illustrations and the absolute excitement on Sophias face when she realizes there is a Hippopotamus at her house. This is a heartwarming story and it was a delight to read.

This was a super cute book! The graphics were great, the story was sweet but simple. Perfect for little curious kids and the parents who might not be so keen to their toys or pets until they see how much their kid loves them.
