I really enjoy a fun witchy read and this book does not disappoint. This is a great follow up to the previous book with really fun characters and an engaging story line. It’s the perfect fun witchy romcom for this time of year!
I was sent this e-arc by the publishers in exchange of an honest review so here we go!
Rating: 4/5⭐️
It was, overall, a good book. I definitely enjoyed more this one than the first but I think that’s because althrought a lot happen in a very short frame of time, they kind of already knew each other and their personality are quite compatible. I enjoyed their bickering, their differences and how they fell for each other. I definitely liked Astaroth better than Oz (sorry!) and Calladia was far more interesting than Mariel (again, sorry!). There’s enemies-to-lovers, one bed and touch her and die tropes which I found to match the whole vibe really well!
A swoonworthy romance that is a brilliant follow up to Book 1. I loved the tension, drama and longing as the build to the relationship grew and our female protagonist was a strong woman, which we always love to see!
This is a fun follow up to A Witch's Guide to Fake-Dating a Demon, with a focus on different characters. There is family tension - both for demon Astaroth and with Calladia, as well as conspiracy, problem solving and some great relationship building. The build up and tension between Astaroth and Calladia was great, and I loved how Calladia was legitimately fighty - the bar brawl was a fun scene (also a nice set up for the next book).
It's funny, sexy and an enjoyable read - what more can you want?
*Thank you to NetGally and Penguin Random House for a copy of A Demons Guide to Wooing a Witch in return for an honest review*
I hadn't read Sarah Hawley's first book, A Witch's Guide to Fake Dating a Demon, but I was in dire need of something fun and easily lovable to read and the blurb for A Demon's Guide to Wooing a Witch hit the brief:
Fiery Calladia Cunnington grudgingly agrees to help Astaroth the demon after he is banished from the Demon Plane with non of his memories - vowing that once he is cured, she'll kick his ass. But the more time she spends with the snarky yet charming demon, the more she realizes she likes this new, improved Astaroth...
While the story carries on from events of A Witches Guide..., you don't need to have read that book to understand what is going on. Helpfully, Astaroth's lack of memory means that in reminding him of their history, Calladia gives readers a neat summary of the events of the previous book too.
I had a great time reading this book. It is light, and witty, and sexy, but also (somewhat to my surprise) vulnerable and inspiring. Both main characters go on a journey of self-acceptance and transformation, but for Calladia it is particularly moving. She is a woman used to feeling like the space she takes up is wrong - too loud, too angry, too masculine. Generally too much. With Astaroth she begins to unpick her past, lower her walls while also setting new boundaries, and embrace the courage to be herself. It is joyful reading, in which Hawley gets the balance of emotional depth against quest shenanigans just right. My only bug bare was that it all happened so fast.
Content Warnings: Sexual content (consensual), abusive relationship, violence, and emotional abuse (less)
When i say i LOVE this book, i am not kidding! I loved ‘A Witches Guide to Fake Dating a Demon’ but this will most likely by top 3 of my books of the year! Calladia is head strong and brilliant, taking no shit, but her mother and her back ground made her a relatable and complex character. Asteroth as complex as he comes. The character development is brilliant. Glimmer falls had more world building which allowed the town to really come to life. Learning more about the world in which it is set. I will 100% be recommending this book to everyone i can. I have already requested for plenty of copies in store because coming into Christmas this is such a fantastic title! I am so excited to see what Sarah Hawley does next with Glimmer Falls!!
Quick, witty, literate and sexy, A Demon's Guide to Wooing a Witch is an enemies-to-lovers romance that hits the spot.
Written as a dual narrative, Hawley switches perspectives between ball-busting witch Calladia, and amnesiac demon bargainer Astaroth. Together, they embark upon a quest to regain Astaroth's memories and to save the hubris living in the demon plain.
Funny, magical, and lined with sexual tension, I very much enjoyed this book.
Thank you to Netgalley for allowing me to read this in exchange for a review.
It's been a while since I laughed out loud with a book. But this one was soo good, I kept laughing constantly.
If I loved a witch's guide to fake dating a demon, I don't know what I feel towards this one because I think I loved it even more. It was absolutely delightful.
Astaroth and Calladia are the perfect couple. That Astaroth falls in love with her precisely because she is strong, bad-mouthed and like to brawl and biker is the best, I absolutely love how they go from enemies to lovers with an amnesia plot line. Loved Astaroth growth, it felt natural and in character, and Calladia boundary setting with her mom.
To be honest, I was kind of waiting for one of the demons to say they had done a bargain with her, and she has no soul because seriously that woman is terrible!
I had forgotten that Mariel looks like Mirabel from encanto in my mind until she reappeared here, and let's be honest, it makes the book even more fun 🤣
Astaroth is a drama queen, and I had so much fun with him. And loved his background history, how he became the way he was.
Lilith is a hilarious addition to the story and I want to read more about her in the future, please. Maybe one of her tentacles stories?? Just saying.
So, if you liked the first book. Or if you like enemies to lovers, amnesia, villain redemption, lots of brawling and spice and a quest, topped with a weird werewolf pack and a good equal rights fight, with a lot of fun, make sure to read this one.
Calladia is a badass. Astaroth is a demon who's ass she recently kicked. When he finds himself with amnesia in the mortal plane, Calladia reluctantly agrees to help him on his quest to recover his memories and return home.
This is a fast paced, utterly irreverent enemies to lovers romance with a healthy dose of the supernatural and a wild sense of humour. A fun and easy read!
I received a copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
Not as good as the first book. There wasn't enough plot to make up for the instalove; the whole thing happens over a few days, immediately after the previous events. Astaroth's amnesia is so inconsistent, it was hard to be convinced by his change of heart.
The author seems to make a big deal out of Calladia being fit and wearing casual clothes like that was unusual and something you have to defend?! The whole emotional abuse was kind of thrown in casually, like half way through she suddenly realised it was odd that Calladia was both confident about her lifestyle while also being weird about it.
There was a few things that were infodumped that could have made an interesting story if fed gradually, but it just seemed to want to get straight to the sex.
Oh so good. Put aside an afternoon and read in one sitting good. Yes, it is all a bit mad, and violent, bloody and sarcastic but that is what makes this book so addictive. There is nothing boring, it clips along at a fantastic pace and still hits the romance button, the irritating parents button and the good friends button. Go and read this book.
I absolutely love this series. They are funny. They are cozy. They are sexy. The universe that Sarah has created is both modern as well as whimsical. I really love to see a grumpy x grumpy relationship as well.
This is the second book in the series and I would recommend reading A Witch’s Guide to Fake Dating a Demon first because there are spoilers for that book, however it’s not completely necessary as she does explain everything you need to know in this one.
This book follows Calladia Callaway and the demon Astaroth, as they try to get Astaroth’s memories back.
I’m really excited to go back into this world with the upcoming third book!
REVIEW
cw: emotional abuse, coercive control, gaslighting
When Astaroth the demon is banished to the mortal plane and stripped of his memory, he finds solace in the unlikely arms of Calladia Cunnington, the witch who kicked his butt for orchestrating a soul bargain on her best friend. Together they set out on a quest to recover his memories.
I love this series so much! Who knew I could possibly grow to adore the vain, snarky and seemingly ruthless demon mentor from the previous story? Astaroth and Calladia's chemistry sizzled, and their banter was hilarious. Astaroth was particularly amusing, especially when recounting his exploits, but he was also heartbreakingly vulnerable and I really loved the development of his character. Calladia was so feisty, but I particularly enjoyed discovering her softer side, as well as how she grew the strength to push back against her manipulative mother.
One of my favourite things about this series is just how rich and detailed the world Sarah Hawley has created, with so many well-crafted, quirky, and often hilarious details, from the political parallels, to magical dupes of real shops and websites. It's also teeming with every imaginable magical creature, and they all have their own unique personalities, and most don't take themselves too seriously. I also love how humour is interwoven throughout the action scenes, and could easily imagine these books as movies. I particularly loved the bar fight and the references to Astaroth's mother's AO3 fanfics. It was also exciting to delve deeper into the demon plane this time around, as well as travel outside of Glimmer Falls. Speaking of which, I adored catching up with Oz, Mariel, Themmie, and Ben, and I LOVED the new characters, especially the pack of werewolves. I cannot wait for the next instalment.
Another adorable and riotously funny fantasy rom-com.

Favourite Quotes:
Calladia didn’t want to date some burly brute. She wanted to be the burly brute.
“I think you’re perfect just the way you are.”
"...You burn, Calladia, and it’s not your failing if other people can’t handle your light.”
“I’ll never get enough of you...The sun could die and the stars could fall and the earth could rip itself apart, and none of that would matter, so long as you were in my arms.”
This was a really good read; I read the first book in the series which was also brilliant. It was nice to see a female character who isn’t a dainty damsel in distress, and a man who celebrates that. It was very steamy and romantic and I can’t wait for the next book.
I adored the first book in this series so knew this one wouldn’t disappoint!! Absolutely loved it! Such a nice, lighthearted read as we head into spooky season!
When I requested A Demon's Guide to Wooing a Witch I didn't realise it was the second in a series. I really dislike reading books out of order so before I started this I bought the first in her Glimmer Falls series, A Witch's Guide to Fake Dating a Demon. I wasn't blown away by the first, I found the heroine meh, the hero bland and the relationship just didn't work for me, but I did like the setting and concept - a kind of magical Stars Hollow - so approached the second with an open mind and I am so glad I did. A Demon's Guide was much more enjoyable from the characters to the sexual tension to the writing.
It starts as the first book ends, with the villian of the first book Astaroth, a demon who looks like and sounds like a regency rake, vanquished by kickarse witch Calladia. Worse, Astaroth has to suffer the consequences of his own arrogant actions and pay the penalty for a bet he has just lost, an open bet which gives his centuries old enemy Moloch huge power over him, power Moloch instantly misuses, banishing Astaroth to the human world where the demon hits his head and loses his memory. Just his luck then that one of the first people he encounters definitely remembers him - Calladia has just been celebrating said vanquishing so she is not impressed to encounter the demon again, but when she realises he genuinely has no idea who he is, what he's done and he's vulnerable, she realises she can't leave him on the street and offers him a room for one night only.
The book includes some of my favourite tropes - enemies to lovers, road trips, amnesia, arrogant rakes brought to their knees by formidable women- with lots of banter, great sexual tension and the kind of character growth I didn't get from the first book. Enjoyable and sexy, this is a great addition to the witch core romance trend. Recommended.
An absolutely delightful, cosy, romance that has the same heart and humour as the first book. I adored the tension and the politics was a fun addition!
Hawley is great at a twisty small-town romance! We're back in Glimmer Falls, and we're thrilled to watch her world fill out. Demons, witches, bar brawls, twisted mothers, amnesia, and a secret that could change the entire demon plane... Calladia and Astaroth definitely have some problems on their hands, but as they escape through the woods to seek out a nomadic witch, how can you not fall in love along the way?
If you liked the first in the series you will like the sequel. Mostly closed door romance with a couple of very open door scenes. I would describe this as cozy fantasy.
This follow-on to A Witch’s Guide to Fake Dating a Demon starts moments after the other has finished. Calladia Cunnington has thrown the demon over a mountain, as you do, but he’s back.
Astaroth has been made mortal, stripped of his job on the Demon Council and has a hefty dose of amnesia. He needs help and Calladia with much misgivings is the gal to do it. Mayhem ensues as they negotiate a new relationship which might yet result in him being thrown over another mountain. But Calladia discovers the delights of the demon and things get a little sexy there. Meanwhile there are still demons to kick and a place on the council to recover, if he still wants it now he’s discovered food.
Another very funny and very sexy romp through modern witches and demons getting it on. It’s very funny and should appeal to the Buffy generation who always enjoy a good Scooby gang fight.
