I am in such a hockey romance spiral right now, and the cutting edge fit right into my library. Logan and Coco were fun and sweet and they showed real chemistry together, I just wish the story was organised differently. I really enjoyed their meet-cute moment. After accidentally giving his daughter's figure skating coach Coco a concussion, NHL player Logan finds himself becoming intertwined in Coco's life and wanting to stay there.

Single dad romances can be hit or miss for me, but the inclusion of Poppy lite as I referred to her was welcomed and brought a lightness to certain heavier moments. The pacing of the story could be more spread out, while some moments felt rushed or sped through, others felt like they dragged on a touch too long (I, like Coco, was ready to leave that hospital).

Overall a fun and light read, I haven't read any other books by Daily but this has definitely intrigued me into checking out some other stuff of hers.

Thank you to Netgalley and Siesta Key House for the e-copy in exchange for an honest review.

Coco is an Olympic figure skater but trains kids during her off-time to cover her expenses. When one day a dad of one of her students, Poppy, is late for pick-up and she is in a rush, she decides to track him down, since he happens to work at the ice rink as well. What Coco doesn‘t know is that the dad in question happens to be NHL player Logan Rivers AND she has just entered the closed-off practice area. Next thing she knows, she‘s got a puck flying to her head with the speed of 103 miles per hour, courtesy of Rivers himself. Ouch! But can this be a blessing in disguise?

This book was very sweet! Low angst, fast-paced and some of the best witty and flirtatious banter I have ever read in a book, I was practically grinning throughout!
Coco is an incredibly kind and compassionate character and so is Logan, our cinnamon roll hero who also happens to be a single-dad to an adorable five year old. What more could you ask for?
If you are looking for a quick and light-hearted hockey romance, this one is good!
I only wish we would have seen more interactions between Poppy and Coco, especially in the second half of the book.

What I do have to add is that the book did still have some formatting mistakes and things that should have definitely been edited. It is not perfect but since I read the earc I kindly received from NetGalley, I don‘t know if the published version is different.

Thank you to NetGalley and Lisa Daily for providing me with an earc! The Cutting Edge is out now!

immediate DNF for single parent romance. i wish this had been included in the synopsis for those of us who are not fans of the trope.

Sigh.

To get right into this review, I want to say that the concept of this book really appealed to me but I was unfortunately disappointed with its execution. The h and H were cute but lacked the instant attraction and chemistry that can make or break a story. Not to mention that there was absolutely no conflict between them. Their romance read as a little juvenile, even though these are full grown characters. One literally has a child.

Daily's writing wasn't the worst I've read, but it certainly wasn't the best either. Grammer and punctuation errors were glaring and it impeded by ability to get though this story as flowingly as I would have wished to. I think a story like this reads a bit younger, if not for the jarring smut scene that didn't really fit in with this story. All of this to say that this book was not for me.

If you are a fan of no angst/insta-love/little conflict love stories, this may work for you!

Thank you NetGalley for a complimentary copy of this book!

This is a super cute modern romance that quenched the easy-read spot I was needing while busy with mum life. I am an ex-National Figure Skater from Australia myself, so I felt connected to the story from the beginning. It was a little hard in places to keep track as there were a few repetitive sentences and phrases, but you got the idea. Apart from some grammatical errors throughout, this was a lovely book and I am very keen to read Book 2!

The cutting edge by Lisa daily was such a fun hockey book that was light, quick paced and steamy. I loved the premise of the book, it was so witty and sweet. I loved the dynamic that the main characters had. It also just enjoyed the single dad trope and the cutest little girl that added so much joy to the plot. If you're looking for a fun and sweet hockey romance with a single dad this book is for you. I recommend it to anyone that enjoys hockey books

I will read almost any hockey romance, but this one didn't win me over. The characters are overly simplistic (though Poppy, the 5-year-old, was adorable), and the plot was a little more than I could make myself believe. I really dislike books that are based on lies and secrets, so maybe others would like this better. Overall, not a winner for me.

I seem to have received a very temperamental version of the book with blacked out sections even after downloading it, refreshing it etc. so my review might be reflective of a rather piecemeal reading of the book.

Coco is a world famous ice skater who tutors young children in order to pay for her training and expenses. Once if her young charges is left at training one night so she walks her to her father’s work … at the ice rink. As it turns out Logan happens to be an NHL star (who would have thought) and he promptly smacks her in the head with a hockey puck.

What follows is Coco being laid up in hospital and Logan feeling responsible because, well, he actually is. So he begins to show her in as many ways that he’s sorry which quickly morphs into some insta-love between the pair. I have to say this happened fast and all the while she was in hospital for a couple of weeks. Mmmmm not really real but ok. There’s some deceitful but it’s one of those ‘all for a good reason’ tropes, and we see Coco just smitten despite being supposedly independent AF. But she isn’t really. There’s nothing for me that suggests she is in her actions or otherwise - though granted she’s kind and warm, and a seemingly good friend.

Anyway this one is a standalone within an interconnected series. It’s light, fun, and I’m thinking would be one of those feel good reads we like between those edgy books full of angst.

Logan was nice - enamoured all too early given his profile, and it seemed a little unrealistic but as I said, fun to read overall.

3.5 stars

It’s abouy Logan, a single dad - captain of a ice hockey team. And Coco, a figure skater on Olympain level - coaching his little girl. He fals first and hard, insta love.
I love the personalities of the characters and also the best friend Marissa. She is so rooting for her best friend, love these kind of friendships.

I also can’t wait for Cam and Lana’s book!

Thank you NetGalley for providing this pre-read book.

I wanted to like this book more than I did. I honestly almost put it down multiple times because I just really struggled with it. Very little character development, too predictable, the conflicts were super super contrived and overall the writing felt very amateurish. The last two chapters were a bizarre epilogue that had some GAPING holes in the storyline that made it less epilogue and more like the next book kinda thing.

The cutting-edge was a cute read. I really enjoyed reading it, I noticed a few grammar errors in the arc but this did not impact the experience. I really enjoyed the romance between the characters and was ruiting for them. i am really looking forward to the second book to be released as the side characters had me intrigued.

Thank you NetGalley and Siesta Key for the opportunity to read The Cutting Edge for free in exchange for an honest review

We meet Logan Rivers a cinnamon roll, single dad and star hockey player who is in a bit of scoring slump and doesn’t know why and Coco, olympic figure skater, his daughter’s skating teacher and secret crush.
One day Coco enters into the arena with Logan’s adorable daughter, Poppy, just as he makes a slap shot out frustration which just so happens to hit Coco’s head. What happens when he spends more time with Coco and could she be the lucky charm he’s been looking for to get his game back on track?

I loved this book, it was a quick read and such a nice, wholesome story. I liked that we saw different aspects of hockey and the families. I adore Logan and Poppy’s relationship, it is too cute. I cannot wait to read the sequel about Cam and Lana!

Thank you Net Galley for providing me with this cute hockey romance arc.

For me it was 3.5 stars read! 🌟🌟🌟

Figure skater Coccinelle 'Coco' Charmaine is late. She needs to go and she needs to go now. Unfortunately one of her students, five years old Poppy, is waiting for her dad to come and pick her up. Poppy's dad doesn't show up and Coco is resolute in finding him after discovering he also works at the rink.
Well, eventually Coco meets Logan Rivers, Poppy's father/captain of the St. Pete Slashers/NHL star, after waking up in the hospital for a puck in the head.

The characters were really nice and I love when the author is able to write a 5 years old, very smart, very perceptive, kid. I love single dad romances and I wouldn't have minded more interactions between Coco and Poppy, mainly in the second half of the book.
Logan was a perfect MMC, really polite and respectful.
Also the level of miscommunication (which I usually hate) wasn't that heavy in this book and it served the story well.

I found the overall story very cute and I found myself smiling a lot throughout the book. Sometimes the story was a little over the top and cheesy but I didn't mind it that much.
Unfortunately there are still a lot of typos, like sentences ending with a comma or dialogues that you don't know where they start/end. And this is the main reason why I didn't give 4 full stars.
Also this book gave me "Just my Luck" vibes and I loved it!!! When I was a teen it was one of my confort rom-com movie so it was a super cute addition to me 🥰

The Cutting Edge is Lisa Daily’s new hockey romantic comedy.

24-year-old Coco Charmaine is a figure skater who came in fourth place in the last Olympics and afterwards was cut off financially by her father. She teaches skating lessons in St. Petersburg, Florida, to support herself while she continues to train in the hopes of going to another Olympic games. She has a reputation for being a good luck charm for others when she doesn’t win.

45 minutes after a skating lesson ends, Coco takes 5-year-old Poppy to find her father, who works somewhere in the building. When they enter the rink that is the practice facility for the St. Pete Slashers, she is immediately struck in the head by a puck traveling 103 miles per hour. She wakes up in the local emergency room where she is diagnosed with a concussion, and then admitted to the hospital for observation.

28-year-old Logan Rivers is the team captain for the St. Pete Slashers professional hockey team. He has been raising his almost-6-year-old niece since birth, when his brother and sister-in-law were killed in a car accident. Logan’s in a slump because he hasn’t scored a goal in three games and his whole team is feeling the effects. He feels terrible when he accidentally injures Poppy’s skating instructor. He is enamored with Coco and visits her regularly in the hospital.

After Logan borrows Coco’s lucky necklace, he scores three goals in his next game. His assistant coach strikes a deal with her to secretly act as Logan’s lucky charm and the team will pay off her debts from training. Of course Logan’s game improves and his team is on their way to the play-offs, but Coco has this secret that she’s keeping from him. Can their relationship survive?

I liked the characters in The Cutting Edge and the plot was well-paced. However, there’s so much in this story that wouldn’t happen in the real world. If the reader can believe in an alternate universe, then you have to overcome all of the errors in the book. There’s an entire section in Chapter 2 that is re-written and repeated, so the reader gets two versions of the same thing. There are numerous typographical and grammatical errors throughout the book. There is profanity and one graphic sex scene. If the book were better edited, I would award it more stars.

There will be a sequel featuring the team’s publicist, Lana, and a player, Cam.

I received an Advance Review Copy (ARC) from NetGalley and Siesta Key for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Sweet slow burn hockey romance. Adorable father-daughter relationship, and kind of 2 sports covered (hockey and figure skating). I enjoyed watching the relationship bloom, but I was frustrated by the late book miscommunication and the ending. Lost interest during probably the last 50 pages, but I made it through

This was a cute #arc to start off my #netgalley account 🙌

I enjoyed this book although it did have a few plot flow issues and some duplicative paragraphs towards the beginning, which were easy to gloss over. I gave it 4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ out of 5 💕

It was sweet with a bit of spice, some 🥵🔥 times and some 🥶❄️ and reminded me of the figure skating movie series 🎬 with the same name (although there's minimal skating in the book) ⛸️

The Cutting Edge is the first of a three-book St. Pete Slashers series 🏒
I'm excited to see what Lisa Daily comes out with next! 😍

Thanks to Netgalley, Siesta Key House, and Lisa Daily for the ARC! 💫

I was very excited for the premise of this book (single dad plus hockey romance, yes please) but found the actual reading pretty boring. I feel like the writing was really repetitive for no real reason and the story wasn’t progressing anywhere.

Bella is a wonderful girl who is scrimping and saving to be able to make it to the Olympics. Part of this includes giving lessons to juniors. She loves it but not when the parents are late to pick up. What she doesn't need is time off the ice because some doofus hits her with a puck.

Logan has not scored a goal in games, but he puts in effort. Hours and hours of training. Sometimes this means he looses track of time. What he didn't anticipate was his daughter's teacher coming to look for him. Hitting Miss Bella with the puck is the worst thing that could happen to Logen, but is it?

When Bella brings a spark to Logan's game, the team manager pays her to hang around for the season, but will this deceit mean the end for Bella and Logan?

This was a lovely sports romance. Logan is just gorgeous but I really feel for Bella and her dreams to get to the Olympics. Logan's daughter was also gorgeous. This was an all around great read. Well written with just the right amount of detail and spice!

Big thanks to NetGalley, Siesta Key and Lisa Daily for an early release copy of this book.

Awww this book!!!

I’m very new to the arc world but if they are all like this then my TBR may be abandoned haha!!

First of all the this book has all the tropes! Here’s a few:
- Hockey Player x Ice Skater (It’s giving Icebreaker!)
- Subtle Enemies to Lovers (you’ll get why!)
- He falls first
- Single Dad…
…just to name a few.

It was such an easy read, with not too much spice, some really funny moments and also some great characters! The storyline didn’t feel too forced and there was some real life issues touched on such as hospital stays, money problems and also the discussion of having money.

Let’s start with the FMC, I loved Coco’s character - she was so fun and her relationship with Poppy was such a cute added touch throughout the book. She was the right level of independent but also not so much that it caused an issue within her relationships. You can really see what a kind soul she is throughout her relationships with the other characters in the book such as Marissa and Ms Markham. Poppy is also one of the cutest kids I’ve read, she was just so caring and had her dad wrapped round her little pinky haha.

Logan was such a fun character. The hockey banter was such as good add to the book - it was so funny seeing Cam tease him about Coco and Logan using his coach throughout the book (again trying not to have too many spoilers but it will all make sense!). The hockey family were also so welcoming to Coco and I can’t wait to read Cam and Lana’s story!

I can’t finish the review without saying that Daily did the background characters great justice too - having the older neighbour, the nosey nurses and the bestie all involved with Logan really allowed us to see his golden retriever energy and his big heart!! I am also definitely a sucker for he falls first trope as it is definitely more written the other way around…

I thought this book was super cute as well as a quick read. Ever since I saw the 1992 movie of the same name, I have always been a sucker for hockey player meets figure skater romances. The book is written in a dual POV between Coco, a figure skater with Olympic aspirations and Logan, a professional hockey player who happens to be a single father. Coco teaches figure skating and Logan’s daughter happens to be her student. Although these characters know each other on a surface level, they get to know one another when Logan hits her accidentally with a hockey puck to the head causing her to get a concussion. Logan feels incredibly guilty about unintentionally injuring her and hurting chances of being a potential hopeful. Once Coco realizes the extent of her injuries, she becomes enraged at Logan, and causes Logan to be determined to get back in her good graces. As Logan’s and Coco’s friendship blooms and progresses, Logans performance on the ice improves which leads them on the road to the Stanley cup. However, not everything comes super easy for these two as they hit a few bumps along the way until they get their HEA.

I thought this book was adorable, it is sweet, romantic, and just an overall feel-good novel. Some of the tropes that are explored in this book are: single dad, sports romance, he falls first, big time gift giver. I totally recommend it, it is so sweet, I would describe it as literary candy.
