This hockey romance was so fun and really easy to get lost into, really immersing into the story. I loved the characters, the plot building and of course the romance. There was tension, there was sweetness and humor. I was rooting for Coco, I was rooting for Logan, I was rooting for their relationship and rooting for the Slashers. I laughed out loud at how Logan asked if Coco was single. My one point of dislike- I didn’t like how the secret was handled when discovered by Coco, it gave me major miscommunication trope vibes which I hate, the reaction seemed too much for the situation. Loved the ending a lot though!
<i>"Because, you know, a girl likes her head injuries to look presentable when a handsome gentleman drops in for a visit."</i>
Coco was minding her own business, trying to find the missing parent of one of her skating students, when she took a hockey puck to the head.
A puck hit by Logan, NHL superstar AND father to her student, at 103 mph (a fact he reminded the staff of at the ER...twice...).
This semi-meet cute would have been reason enough for me to pick up this book. A single dad who hospitalizes the love interest? I'm in! The name of the book, however, was what really reeled me in. Fellow 90s babies in love with DB Sweeney (TOE PICK!) will understand!!
<i>"He’s like, a legitimate sports star.” “As opposed to an illegitimate sports star.” “You know how I feel about wife carrying.” “That’s not a sport.” “Exactly, so why was it on ESPN that time?” “One of the great mysteries of the Universe."</i>
Come for the 90s reference, stay for the comedy and romance. The Cutting Edge is a classic slow burn romcom with a delightfully cinnamon roll hero and a heroine with a rocky past. Logan and Coco play off each other well, volleying back and forth with quips and jokes. The tension between them is FIERCE, and you'll think the romance will be closed door, but it isn't. You just have to be patient.
The only reason I didn't give this book 5 stars is because of how Coco handled The Big Reveal. There were tons of cheesy moments that I loved (even the Vera Wang part), but Coco about lost me when she finds out what Logan did. That man SHOWERED HER in gifts. He went above and beyond in trying to atone for his mistake. She even spent chapters feeling guilty over her actions, but she made Logan out to be the bad guy. Not cool, Coco!
If you're looking for a light and steamy hockey romance, check this one out! You won't regret it.
Thank you, NetGalley and Lisa Daily, for the opportunity to read this book! All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I received The Cutting Edge by Lisa Daily for free in exchange for an honest review. This was my first book by Lisa Daily that I have read. It was really cute! I felt that some of the story was predictable, but it was an enjoyable read. I liked the hockey and figure skating aspect of it. I would definitely read books by her in the future.
This book was okay. Not a true favorite by any means, but a good read. Predictable storyline and okay characters
"The Cutting Edge" by Lisa Daily is a captivating and emotionally resonant novel that takes readers on an unforgettable journey through the riveting world of competitive figure skating.
At the center of the narrative is Grace, a talented and dedicated figure skater whose aspirations for Olympic success burn fiercely within her. As readers follow her through rigorous training sessions, nerve-wracking competitions, and heart-rending setbacks, they become intimately acquainted with her unwavering determination and passion for the sport.
Amidst Grace's relentless pursuit of excellence, Lisa Daily skillfully weaves a touching romance into the narrative. Alex, a talented hockey player, enters Grace's life, their relationship blossoms and is characterized by the same determination that propels them in their respective sports. However, as love collides with ambition, the novel explores the sacrifices that must be made when two individuals are passionate about their dreams. This emotional exploration of relationships adds depth to the plot and serves as a reminder of the choices we face in our pursuit of happiness.
Thank you NetGalley and Lisa Daily for the chance to read this ARC!
This book just completely missed the mark for me. I wish it didn’t. At first there was so much potential- the meet cute and the chivalry of Logan at the hospital.
First there was a huge missed opportunity for an emotional moment when Logan explains how he became a dad. And then it got too unbelievable for me to enjoy. I played college hockey so maybe I’m being a bit too critical but the things that Logan does just is ridiculous. Texting from the bench. I’m sorry. I just lost interest fast.
There were repeated paragraphs and quite a few errors- more than I would expect from an ARC.
Just overall very hard for me to read.

➡ NHL superstar and team captain Logan Rivers has hit a rough patch. He hasn't scored in weeks and his team needs every point if they're going to make the playoffs but he really hits rock bottom when he accidentally hits his daughter's coach and Olympic figure skater Coco in the head with a puck. Feeling guilty, he begins visiting her in the hospital and as their connection heats up, so does his game.
When one of the team coaches offers to pay Coco to be Logan's lucky charm, everything seems to be headed in the right direction for both of them. But can their connection stay true when their time together is built on a lie?

🎯 What I loved: The meet-cute at the beginning of the story gave me high hopes that this book was headed for some fun humor but sadly, things went mostly downhill after the fist five pages.
🙅♀️ What I didn't: Woof. There was a lot about this book that just didn't work for me. I read ARCs pretty frequently and expect that there will still be the occasional typo or error but this book was something else. There were so many grammatical errors, literal repeated paragraphs and typos that it was difficult to figure out what was happening at times. There was a character who was called 3 different names because of misspellings. It was rough to say the least. But beyond the small errors, the storyline just didn't work. The FMC Coco was in the hospital for half of the book and apparently, the MMC who was the team captain of an NHL team in the playoffs had time to sit in her hospital room every night and fall for her while she was recovering from a concussion and skull fracture and was texting her FROM THE BENCH OF AN NHL GAME. No player I've ever met takes their phone on the ice with them. She didn't even skate for the duration of the book (she couldn't because of her injury) and then won Nationals two months later? I'm all for fantasy but this book wasn't advertised as such.
And the whole part of the plot where she accepted money to "be his lucky charm" but was mad at him for accidentally hitting her with a puck and destroying her career and then trying to help her...I just can't even. And then his daughter? She just sort of disappeared after the incident and based on the amount of time Logan was in the hospital, I question when he saw her at all. The whole thing made no sense.

I really enjoyed that Logan was a single father, and poppy was a burst of joy and such a wonderful character. But, it was hard to get past the debt aspect between Coco and Logan, and the secret between them and the miscommunication. I’m not the biggest fan of the miscommunication trope, and I know that this is my preference, but terms of enjoyment I’m going to have to give this book 3 or 3.5 stars. The beginning was really quick to get into, but the middle was a bit of a struggle because I was scared of what was going to happen when the secret was let out. However, I do love a good hockey player and figure skater romance, and this was fun to read regardless of my preferences. The writing was endearing and edited quite well, and thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for letting me read this book in exchange for a review!!
The Cutting Edge follows Coco Charmont who is a former Olympic Figure Skater and Logan Rivers a star pro Hockey player as they find each other and fall for one another.
I felt as though the characters were all really loveable, but the fact that Logan was always so nice and sweet, and he never gets mad at Coco, really makes it feel like its a man written by a woman and it’s not truly realistic.
Also, I didn’t really enjoy that 60% of the book was in the hospital and we only got one scene where Coco was figure skating even though it’s her passion. So I think they maybe could have expanded a little bit more into that side of Coco.
Overall, I really enjoyed the plot of the novel, the characters as well as the pacing of the story, but would make some small adjustments talked about previously to make this a 5 ⭐️ read.
This is the kind of romance that ought to have illustrated cover. Cute, very sweet, no spice, Interesting insight into both figure skating and hockey, with cute supporting characters.
This was a cute, quick hockey romance read with likeable characters and wonderful banter! I'm always down for a sports romance and even more for a Hockey one! Logan and Poppy were such a cute father/daughter duo! Poppy is so freaking adorable! However, if you are looking for a spicy read this isn't going to be it. The spice was lite but the book was still good! Logan and Coco had great chemistry and between the three of them it was cute!
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC!

This book was not for me. It was very fast paced and was too much to comprehend for me. It had no structure and I didn't like it.
The ending was better than the whole book and I gave this rating on base of that.
This was just not my cup of tea. It was very rushed, not structured very well, and the weird thing with the ex boyfriend was just surprising and not needed, it was completely too out of nowhere, just didn’t make sense.
I read this book quickly page after page i snapped it up and read consistently. The chemistry between the two gets off to a bad start. But gets better for them which was so good because the funniest line in the book just made me hope they would get better and progress after their meeting. Not everybody meets like that amd thank god that would kinda hurt. Hockey is dangerous but it was so amazing to watch how the characters got along after that. I would love to read this again. I will definitely recommend to others that love hockey romances.
So I have to disclaim I am in the middle of my sports romance era and not growing up around hockey teams, this checks off all the boxes of wishing I was an olympic competitor, had a hockey captain smitten with me and that I could get hired on as a lucky charm. I mean, sign me up! I have to say I also love rom-coms where the guy falls first and is truly smitten (there's not a better description) with the FMC. Logan instantly becomes the good guy you're all rooting for and Coco is truly the sweetest to everyone around her. If you're looking for a feel good read, this one checks lots of rom-com boxes that will leave you with a smile.
OMG this was amazing the banter, the single dad, the skating!!! I think poppy was my favorite character but it’s really hard to decide! This is a figure skater x hockey player romance which is always amazing. Safe to say I really enjoyed the book!

Overall, I thought this was super cute story and had very likable characters in it. While I would definitely classify it as a comedy, I would say it was light on the hockey part. However, the author had me laughing out loud at multiple points.
I hope the errors are because this is an ARC. There were grammatical errors, as well as whole paragraphs repeated. It made it hard to follow the storyline at times.

A friends-to-lovers story, The Cutting Edge by Lisa Daily follows competitive figure skater Coccinelle Charmaine and hockey team captain Logan Rivers.
Normally, I love the figure skater x hockey player cliche, but this novel felt anything but, because although we did get some scenes from hockey games, there were no figure skating scenes, at least not until the very end. Also, the chapters were incredibly short, which made the book feel really fast paced. Speaking of chapters, tell me why only three days had passed over the course of 14 chapters, all of which took place in the hospital, the same with majority of the romance.
The only good parts of the novel that I loved were Poppy and the manner in which Logan showed his feelings for Coco. But in the final 15% of the book, things did start to improve.
Overall, I did enjoy this book’s premise, but the way it was plotted out was not ideal for the tropes or the characters.
*Thank you to Siesta Key, and to the author, Lisa Dailey, for providing me with this e-arc in exchange for an honest review.*
There has definitely been a drastic increase lately in the pull for hockey romance. This fade-to-black romance written by Lisa Daily was cute. I wasn’t totally absorbed only because it seemed drastically fast paced and a touch disjointed at times to further promote the romance without being explicit about the romance.
Overall, it was a cute novels and I’d recommend it to anyone who likes a more calm romance novel.
