Oof. Where to begin?

This book started off fun enough--when figure skating coach (and Olympic skater) Coco goes looking for her student's father, who's late to pick her up, an accident involving a hockey puck lands Coco in the hospital, putting her training on hold. Guilty over his mistake, Logan visits Coco regularly in an attempt to make it up to her, and feelings ensue. When Logan starts playing better after having Coco around, Logan's coach offers to pay Coco to be Logan's good luck charm. The caveat is: she can't tell him.

When I reached about the halfway point of the book, I couldn't remember where the story was supposed to be going, so I looked up the synopsis. When I read that the book was supposed to be about Coco being Logan's good luck charm, I thought Goodreads had the wrong book synopsis listed because there had been absolutely no sign of that. It wasn't until the 60% mark that the actual advertised plot began and Coco even got out of the hospital.

This book was not structured well. The original premise of Coco being Logan's good luck charm could've been interesting if the book was actually about that. To stick with that premise, WAY less of the book should've taken place in the hospital so they could've gotten to the actual plot, and so they could've focused more on Coco's figure skating career. She could've had any career, honestly, and it wouldn't have mattered because it was so irrelevant to the story. Her dream of returning to the Olympics took a backseat to Logan's hockey career, which I found disappointing.

The entire book was wildly unrealistic as well--from Coco's injury to the insta-love to literally everyone in Coco and Logan's lives telling them that they were perfect for each other when they barely knew each other to even the most basic facts about hockey and figure skating that the author got wrong--it was too much to overlook. The hockey and figure skating mistakes were particularly frustrating because they could've easily been corrected with a quick Google search.

Possibly my least favorite scene in the entire book took place around the 90% mark when Coco and Logan were on a date and a random, completely unestablished, ex-boyfriend of Coco's showed up and started making incredibly misogynistic comments. This entire scene, and ex-boyfriend character, was clearly created so Logan could show off his hero complex and "rescue" Coco, which she definitely didn't need. It gave me the ick to watch how creepy and possessive Logan became in an attempt to "protect" Coco. The scene was supposed to paint him in a good light but had the opposite effect.

By the end of the book, I wasn't supporting Logan at all. When Coco learned Logan was the one who came up with the lucky charm idea, and forgave him almost instantly, I didn't agree. The way he manufactured that entire situation and lied to her AND essentially paid her to be his girlfriend without her knowing that's what was going on was absolutely disgusting. Personally, I would've dumped him and run for the hills.

I also feel it's worth mentioning that, toward the end of the book, Coco calls Logan the "man of my smutty dreams." Ugh.

Needless to say, I don't recommend this book.

A sweet romance between a professional hockey player and Olympic figure skater. Though sometimes a little tedious, this was worth getting through some of the early wooing to get to the main story.

It’s a lovely, cute, quick book, but I wish more was added. Although I think in the other books of the series, we’ll see bits and pieces of them in the next one to continue where this one left off, but still, I wanted more😭

I was slightly upset about them being on the ice; we only saw her once. I wish the hospital scene went by faster instead of being dragged on so we could see her be a figure skater instead of a bandage hospital girly.

I do like them together and thought they were super cute. The hottie NHL player is such sunshine, and I love it. Plus, him being a single dad hits.

I loved this hockey romance! Logan is the star for the St. Pete Slashers and he has not been doing well at all...that is until he meets Coco, an Olympic Figure Skater, who is his daughters ice skating coach. He ends up hitting Coco in the head with a puck and she ends up in the hospital with a concussion and dizziness. As he spends more time with her, he truly believes Coco is his lucky charm. His daughter, who is actually his niece, is adorable and loves Coco just as much. The connection between the two is crazy hot. There are not many spicy scenes and that doesn't start till the last 10% of the book. Overall, a really sweet read!

Sweet and satisfying romance, all in all. I love a good hockey romance! This needed a good editing, to be honest, as there was a good amount of duplication in the descriptions (even within paragraphs) that was a bit distracting.

A cute romance between an ice skater and a hockey player? Sign me up! The Cutting Edge is a story of Coco and Logan. Coco has an unfortunate accident with a hockey puck, caused by Logan. Romance ensues!

What I liked: The characters are sweet, the banter is fun, and the overall premise of the story is great.

What I didn't like: The book still needs a little more editing for some formatting issues. The time spent in the hospital was longer than the time spent out, making the second half of the book feel rushed. And for me personally, I would have liked just a little more romance.

Overall, cute story, but would love to see it a little more refined!

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.

A sports romance that plays out in the hospital I had high hopes for this book, but after I was halfway through, I could not take the hospital romance anymore. It's stuck in one place. I did try to enjoy it, and I loved the character Logan and his little girl. It was not what I expected. I got all excited about the blurb and the cover, but sadly, after 52% in, I ended up DNF'ing this book.

It had so many spelling errors and repeated words and sentences. It was enjoyable at first, but went nowhere. Thank you, Netgalley, for this e-ARC.

i don't love this book but i would still recommend this easy read to you, maybe you will like it more than me.

what really annoyed me was that it is advertised as a steamy romance, but it starts very late and unfortunately not well written, it was boring. totally nothing special.

I really enjoyed this book! It was my first hockey romance, and it definitely won't be my last. I loved the fact that both the MMC and the FMC were at the top of their game sports wise, and that they supported each other - and that each characters ambitions were equally important. (I hate it when the FMC abandons all her plans and dreams for a MMC).

It was a really cute slow burn, and I blew through it in an evening. I am however now very disappointed no one has ever sent me a basket of puppies?!

I did have a couple of repeated paragraphs in my copy, but that's very possibly an issue with my kindle copy.

All in all, I'd definitely recommend this book! It was super cute and made me smile multiple times.

Maybe this is 2.5 ⭐️

I don’t even know what to say, honestly. It’s not awful, it’s just not good. The FMC is so unlikable. She jumps to conclusions that are really a stretch to even be mad about and has zero accountability for any of her own faults. MMC is constantly apologizing and showering her with endless gifts trying to make up for something he’s not even done wrong. Or that, if it is wrong, she has done to him as well. Ugh! Not to mention it’s instalove…whiplash instalove. I don’t know, I would have enjoyed it more if he have confronted her about her unwarranted temper and then forgot about her. (Also, low spice - if you are wondering.)

Lisa Daily has a game-winner with THE CUTTING EDGE (St. Pete Slashers #1). Figure Skater Coco Charmaine ends up in the hospital after being hit in the head with a puck by NHL star Logan Rivers. Logan feels guilty for hurting Coco continually visiting her and getting her presents. He believes that she is the reason he comes out of his hockey slump. His coach offers Coco money to continue to hang out with Logan during the playoffs. Coco struggles with lying to him.

THE CUTTING EDGE is a heartwarming and entertaining story. Coco is the figure skating instructor for Logan’s niece/daughter, Poppy. I love the relationship she has with both Poppy and Logan. Poppy is adorable and continually made me laugh. Logan is smitten by Coco. He gives her the best presents. He is very thoughtful. Both Coco and Logan keep things from the other than cause issues for the couple.

There are interesting obstacles and situations in the story. I am looking forward to Cam and Lana’s story next, COLD FEET I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

This was my first hockey romance and it did not disappoint although I did feel like this was a bit of a hospital romance as more than 70% of things seem to happen in the hospital.

The chemistry of the two MCs was the best part of this book for sire. Its also written in dual POV (which I always love).

This book was such a cute and fun read, that I finished in less than a day and had me hooked for the first few chapters.

Overall - I’d recommend this book, I loved it.

Thank you @netgally and Lisa Daily for this late ARC!!

This was a cute and funny quick read. When NHL superstar and single dad Logan Rivers hits future Olympic Champion Figure skater Coco with a stray puck, he does everything in his power to make it up to her.

I loved the banter between Logan and his daughter Poppy. I wish there was more of her sprinkled throughout the book.

Logan is so sweet. Almost too sweet. He is a gift giver. Not my love language but it is how he shows his love to Coco. Their relationship is strained by secrets. Secrets that could of been avoided.

My favorite Quote
“I want to kiss you.”
“What’s stopping you?”

This book has all the right pieces to succeed and unfortunately, they didn't all land. It was a little disjointed and confusing. While I liked Coco as a character, she needed to be a bit more fleshed out. Logan as a character needs more depth, because currently he sounds too much like he was written by a woman. There are also multiple instances of a duplicate paragraph showing up on the next page.

I think concussion protocol and how head injuries are addressed at the emergency room needed more research. The hockey of it all definitely needs more research. A player would never be allowed to use their phone on the bench during a game. Overall if you're looking for a light hockey romance read without much spice, this book should hit the spot.

As always thank you to NetGalley and the author for this ARC copy.

My sincere thanks to Siesta Key and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this book and give my unbiased opinion of it in the following review.

The Cutting Edge by Lisa Daily
Logan has admired Coco as his daughter's beautiful figure skating teacher, but he hasn't done anything about it. He is busy chasing the Stanley Cup and doesn't need any distractions. When he is late to pick Poppy up from her lesson and Coco delivers her to his practice rink, he accidentally hits Coco in the head with a hockey puck that was flying at more than 100 mph. He'll do anything to make it up to her. He is practically in love with her from the get-go. Coco is smitten as well, and I have to admit they were pretty cute together. I had to smile at Logan's complete and utter swoony behavior. It was pretty over the top for the beginning of a relationship and fun to read.

My main criticism of this book was glossing over of the seriousness of Coco's head injury. Not only would I have been fuming over the lack of professional care she seemed to be receiving from the hospital she was at, but I couldn't believe that people were able to waltz in and out of that hospital and her room at will. Only a little research would have revealed that a concussion such as Coco's would not have allowed for so much stimulation. I know high school athletes who have gone through weeks without bright light, screens, music, even conversation in an effort to gain the best possible outcome after a serious concussion. The way this subject was treated was not, in my opinion, realistic or genuine. I realize that this book is fiction and that the author can ignore something like this for the sake of the story, but I truly think that this could have been done better. Unfortunately, I couldn't forget this as I kept reading and it did lessen my overall enjoyment of the book.

Rating : 2.5 stars

- I loved the characters, specially Poppy. Also her bond with Logan. She was so refreshing and cute.
- I liked the fact that Logan cared for Coco but it was way too much at the first. I mean they didn't even talk before and giving that much gifts on just their first fight was a bit excessive.
- On their last fight, I expected some tension but it ended so soon.
- Since they both had past traumas, I expected to read more about it.
- I wanted at least one scene of Coco and Logan with their parents.
- In most stories, s*x happens just after few interactions between the main characters. I liked that here they both spent time together and didn't directly go to bed.

Overall I liked the story. It was a cute sweet romance and an easy read. Wasn't too long or too short.

I was hooked after the first few chapters I thought this was gonna be a 5 star read, however after a few chapters it really slowed down and there wasn’t a ton of depth to the characters, and the conflict was just kind of annoying. However it still was an enjoyable easy read and I’m a sucker for hockey romances. Thank you NetGalley for the ARC.

Love a good sports themed book, overall a good quick read. It started out strong but lost me half way before it started to pick back up. The ending felt rushed but happy ending.

DNF’d at 65% 😟

I really wanted to love this book but insta-love just really isn’t my thing and I was really struggling to make it this far. Out of the many hockey romances I read this year, this was the first one I found to be super cringy.

Add on to the fact that there were so many spelling mistakes and grammatical errors?? And the fact that they didn’t even spell Gretzky’s name right, it was just the last straw!

I received this book as an ARC through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review, and unfortunately I’m going to be rating it as 1/5 stars.
