DNF. I got about a third in and it's a no for me. I can see the where Daily was trying to go and the potential is there. The there are portions that are too drawn out with a step by step distribution of how small everyday activities take place. The extent of the research done for this title was other Hockey romance novels.
This book is about an Olympic figure skater Coco (not Bella as the Goodreads description says) and an NHL player Logan. They meet because she is his young daughter, Poppy’s (not mentioned in Goodreads description) skating instructor and when he’s late to pick her up from practice, Coco and Poppy hunt him down at hockey practice where he accidentally sends a slap shot flying at 103 mph straight to the side of Coco’s head. In real life I would have completely expected a hockey puck at that speed to cause a lot more damage and pain than what took place in this book. The majority of this book takes place as Coco is in the hospital and Logan is trying to win her over with countless gifts and so many apologies for the accident. I feel like a lot of things were rushed too much and the character development was a tad lacking because of it.
It touched on a lot of tropes. But maybe it would have been better with less tropes and more time focused on details? I would have loved to have seen five year old Poppy more she was the best character in my opinion. I adored her!
The conflict between Coco and Logan didn’t happen until around the 80-90% mark and it seemed extremely forced. Coco felt so guilty about her part but then the second she found out about Logan’s it was the end of the world. It was resolved way too quickly and easily given the circumstances but I guess with such a short story it somewhat makes sense.
Besides Poppy being my favorite character, the witty banter between Coco and Logan is my favorite. I live for the banter! “Azul, Cocina” the 103mph repeat joke and the references about Jason Statham and Bruce Willis saving lives, not killing people accidentally and owing their lives split up however many ways was my favorite part. It had me laughing out loud literally. The aggressive ex of Coco’s showing up randomly for no reason I could have definitely lived without. I felt that was totally pointless.
All in all I enjoyed this book it’s just not high up on my favorites list and didn’t have me kicking my feet with a smile on my face the whole time like I was expecting.
This was an ARC, so the spelling, duplicate paragraphs, grammar, punctuation and scenes that are repeated but described differently back to back shouldn’t be an issue in the final copy.
Thank you to NetGalley, Siesta Key and Lisa Daily for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This was a great feel-good story! It was such a fun, funny read. I found myself unable to put it down! The dad and daughter love really pulled at my heartstrings and I genuinely loved it so much. I would definitely recommend this book to friends.
this book was cute and corny. i liked logan and coco’s characters. this book was very predictable and had nhl errors that didn’t make sense. i also didn’t like how poppy was only in beginning and then basically forgotten towards the end. i loved poppy. she was so adorable so i wish i could’ve seen more of her. some things just seemed too forced and way too convenient. and i didn’t like the wag interactions. i also think they got together very quickly. it was a fun easy read. i didn’t dislike it enough to not continue the series so i look forward to cam and lanas book!
This was a cute and clean romance between hockey player and a figure skater. I think the book started out pretty strong with how the main characters were introduced; however, it slowed down as they got to know each other, even with the added "lucky charm" conflict. It had the makings of a 4 or 5 star as I normally love hockey romance and the single dad trope, but it fell short. I think Coco spent way to much time in the hospital. I feel like that part of the story took up half of the book. It should have been shorter with the main conflict introduced sooner to peak my interest a bit more.
Thank you to NetGalley for an advanced readers copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
This romance starts when Olympic figure skater Coco receives a puck to the head from Slasher’s hockey captain Logan Rivers target-missing slap shot. What follows is a story filled with hush-hush hospital visits, remarkable gifts and lucky charms.
Logan is a true Cinnamon Roll hero with a cute daughter, Poppy, who also has a great dynamic with her skating teacher Coco. Logan falls instantly in love with said teacher and goes a bit overboard with the gift giving while she has to stay in the hospital. Not always so realistic but it is a lighthearted rom-com after all.
Logan & Coco’s teasing banter had me grinning and giggling along the way. And lines like “I made that goal just for you” delivered the necessary Oooh moments in this hockey romance.
The e-ARC did have some edit errors with duplicate lines here and there, but I assume this is linked to the fact that this was an advanced copy still undergoing final proofreading.
Thank you to Siesta Key and NetGalley for the chance to read a free advanced copy of this ebook in exchange for an honest review
Thank you netgalley for this book :)
I loved the idea of this book the figure skater and hockey player falling inlove, and I had so many high hopes for the book but sadly it didn’t meet my expectations. Imma start with the good aspects.
I LOVED the way Logan is with poppy he is such a caring father and you can clearly see his love for his daughter and how he would do anything for her. And I would have loved to see more of their relationship because she is such a kind and loving little girl.
The problem was that the book felt immature there were so many punctuation mistakes throughout the books. In addition sentences that made no sense whatsoever , I thought i forgot how to read. but also paragraphs were repeated like full on.
Also you would see a scene from him pov and then the scenes would repeat from her pov but then the events changed like huh? Why even tell me the same thing again. At the start I put it past me and thought maybe she is a first time author, but she isn’t, and these mistakes just ruined the reading experience for me.
And the writting itself was awful, like it was wattpad level at best and because of this I almost DNFed the book. Like please his flirting was impersonating a crab SERIOUSLY.
“Because you're definitely going to need an extra large” this is the line that made me lose my sanity, and I actually felt bile go up my throat.
“I oblige, ripping the foil package and slowly rolling the condom over his massive cock” I digress this is the line that made me lose my sanity
“I felt a deep connection that was unlike anything I'd ever experienced before” omg good tell me more about this connections it’s not like you bring it up EVERYSINGLE CHAPTER, every character has said this so far. But the funny part is I don’t feel a connection because it’s being shoved down my throat rather than shown to me . Like do a little show not tell but no in ever other sentence you bring up their connection.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an arc in exchange for an honest review.
**4.5**
okay, I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS BOOK!
I was immediately hooked. I loved the way the book was written and how it didn't stall and take forever to get into the plot.
I freakin' loved Logan and Coco. From their first scene together, I could immediately sense the chemistry. Their banter was absolutely giggle-worthy. I read this book while I was at work, and lemme tell you, it was so hard not to physically laugh out loud and not get caught smiling at my screen like a doof.
Here's a line with absolutely no context because ARGH
"I won’t lie; it’s kind of nice. Yes, she’s unconscious, so that’s not ideal. But still. Nice."
okay, it sounds creepy with no context, but read it, and it'll make sense, I promise.
Now, let me get to why I docked off a half point. The conflict. That was just not it for me.
If I'm being honest, it was barely a conflict. It lasted all of two chapters, maybe. But I mean, I guess it was entertaining to wish I could just yell at these two for being stupid.
I understand where the conflict came from, but it was way too quick; I got whiplash. Maybe if it'd had been like they actually had a conversation about it rather than her just stomping away and making assumptions, I would've liked it more. I don't know. not my favourite part of the book, but still fine.
totally worth it for the rest of the book.
I also wish we got to see more of Coco and her ice skating. I mean I get that she's incapacitated in the book, which is basically the whole premise, but it still would've been nice.
my favourite parts:
-Chapter 34 was the best part of this entire book. LIKE AHHHHHHHHHHH.
-the necklace
-poppy, I wish we saw more of her. she slayed.
-the gifts!! especially the puppies.
- Logan. he was just an absolute golden retriever.
“That one was for you.”
Overall, I loved it. definitely recommend.
This book had a lot of potential but it also had a lot of problems.
My biggest issue is that the heroine gets a concussion and skull fracture and the author clearly did not research these conditions. I've had multiple concussions and there is no way Coco would have been watching a ton of TV and participating in lots of activities in her hospital room. Nor would she have been at an NHL game two weeks after her injury. The whole issue with her injuries resolved way too quickly and easily. I don't know figure skating but I doubt she would have been back to full functioning so soon.
The other issues were little things like repetitive writing (the guy is 6'4", we get it!!) and the other one that drove me nuts was the hockey player texting his girlfriend from the bench during a high stakes game. I've been to a lot of NHL games and I cannot imagine that happening for multiple reasons.
Then we have the fact that both characters are deceiving each other yet Coco seems to feel she's the only one with the right to be upset. That was annoying.
The storyline was cute and I liked the characters, and I especially love a hockey romance but this one was a big miss for me.
2.75 stars rounded up
I am a sucker for hockey romances. I love the sport so i love the hockey romance trope. I also love the cinnamon roll MMC trope, instalove (although obviously not always believable) and the single dad trope. So this one checked my boxes
NHL player and single dad Logan met his daughter's skating coach Coco after accidentally hitting her in the head with one of his slap shots. After spending time with her in the hospital, they both start having feelings for one another. Now, we know that it can never be that simple. After some miscommunications, they do have their HEA.
It was a very solid read. Sweet and swoony. I wanted to see more poppy though. She was so adorable in the beginning and I would have loved to see her relationship with Coco grow
Also as a hockey fan some stuff bothered me and it's simple stuff that could have been fact checked. But that is just me being nitpicky
Thank you to NetGalley, Siesta Key and Lisa Daily for the ARC in exchange for my
This was a cute read. If you are looking to start reading hockey romances this is a good start. It was a warm and fuzzy book. I don't think I would call it steamy as there was really only one spicy part. I read an advance copy and there were a lot of parts that repeated themselves so I hope editing fixed those parts. The single father trope was cute but the nicknames for the daughter were a little annoying. Also, if you looking for "guy falls first" trope this is very much it. Again, this was a cute book for sure.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me access to this arc!
I loved this with everything I. Me! Logan and Coco are adorable and I loved the different setting and how it came about. The single dad trope is by far one of my favourites. I loved everything about this one and so excited for the next!
Was this the best book I’ve ever read? Absolutely not… but it was everything you’d want out of a single dad hockey romance. This was super fun, fast paced and an easy read. It pulled me out of my current slump. I can’t wait to read more from this author
A super satisfying romance. Great characters and a fun and lively story with great dialog. Loved it!
If you’re a hockey romance, insta love fan then you may enjoy this more then I did. Coco and Logan start a romance after Logan gives Coco a concussion with a hockey puck straight to the head. Some of the dialogue and internal monologues seem a bit repetitive, and I would’ve liked to see more of the relationship between Poppy (Logan’s daughter), Logan, and Coco, especially in the second half. It’s definitely a light, easy read, and a decent way to pass a few hours but not on my must-reads list.
This is such a cute and fluffy romance, Logan sends Coco to the hospital after accidentally hitting her in the head with a hockey puck and knocking her out, the chemistry between them is instantly there, lots of laughs, a few misunderstandings but ultimately they fall for each other and finally get their hea
This was a cute, light read overall and I’m always a sucker for hockey player romances, but I noticed several things that really bothered me and took away from my enjoyment. As a huge NHL and ice hockey in general fan, I noticed some inconsistencies, like that a Florida-based team (there are two in the real NHL and both are in the Atlantic division) would start the playoffs against the Philadelphia Flyers (a team in the Metropolitan division). That didn’t make sense to me.
Also, I know this will be corrected in the final version, or maybe it was done on purpose since they’re real people , but Wayne Gretzky and Phil Kessel are both mentioned and both names are spelled wrong. How do you let that slide in a book where hockey is central to the theme?
As for the book itself, it was predictable in many ways, which is what I wanted with a book like this, and I felt like most of the main characters had good substance and depth, especially Logan, Coco, Poppy, and Marissa, but some elements of the story needed improvement.
I didn’t like how Logan’s dating history was covered early on but Coco’s was barely mentioned until the end. I don’t want to spoil anything, but it might have helped build the story more if this was mentioned earlier and not just casually thrown in at the end.
I also felt like some things were just too convenient and not realistic, like the job Coco ends up getting. I know this is fiction, but I felt like there were more realistic ways she could have been tied to the team.
Finally, I didn’t love the interactions with the WAGs. Maybe that’s how it really is, but the way said that another WAG’s “expiration date” or “sell-by date” was coming really irked me. There are much better and more tactful ways of saying that they didn’t think she’d be a permanent addition to their hockey family.
I’m definitely going to give the rest of the series a chance, as I liked some parts of this book and it was a good escape. I’m somewhere around a 2.5 star rating.
One of my top 10 sport romance books! A funny romance story between Coco and Logan. Logan, who shoots a puck straight to Coco's head which sends her to the hospital. Lots of chemistry between these two - would've liked more scenes of spice but all in all a great read. Lovable characters who you root for.
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC.
Sparks fly when pro hockey star Logan Rivers accidentally hits Olympic figure Skater, Coco, in the head with a stray puck. Logan hasn't been able to score a goal in 3 games and is starting to worry he is in a slump. Coco has training expenses that she needs paid off and so she strikes a deal with Logan's coach. She will be the hockey stars good luck charm in exchange for her expenses. The team end up on a winning streak but Coco doesn't know how to tell Logan that she has been lying to him since the start of their relationship. If she can just find a way to keep the truth from him until after the play offs she hopes they'll both end up with what they want. Lies, however, have a nasty way of working themselves to the surface.
This was not for me. I didn’t like how every single character referred to woman who sleep with hockey players as “puck bunnies.” The main male character, Logan, was definitely guilty of love bombing Coco after he gives her a skull fracture by hitting her with his slap shot. There’s also a part where a wife of another hockey player says another girlfriend is reaching her “expiration date” as if it’s that woman’s issue and NOT the man who keeps cycling through women.
No thanks. Not for me.
