I really really enjoyed this book. The magic system is so unique and cool! It was super easy to connect with the characters and i was constantly rooting for the romance!
The dual POV audiobook narration was good.
I struggled with the content of this dark fantasy.
The female MC is an assassin at night and a healer by day. I liked her duality, but I didn't like that it seemed as if the only reason for her working as an assassin was her trying to get her father's approval. She's a skilled healer and her knowledge seems very modern for a fantasy novel. Yet, the world seems rather medieval when looking at the entitled way most male characters use and abuse power.
Thank netgalley and bolindaaudio for a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
I thought that the narration quality was excellent. The actors differentiated their voices well and created believable characters with their voices.
I did find the story itself difficult to get in to.. the world building was clever - I liked the idea of god's singing and guiding the characters. The writing was also very strong.
But I struggled with mfc development - I didn't find the idea of her being a ruthless assassin by night quite credible. I felt like I was missing something - was it only her dad forcing her to kill? And I feel she definitely could have just offed the prince. There was also something about the violence of the male characters that made me a bit uncomfortable. The way it was written was almost as though it was ok. I'm sure that wasn't the intention but it didn't sit right.
I struggled to get into this one, it didnt really grip me as id expected it to,
I can see how others would enjoy it though there was dual perspectives, a unique concept and action.
Fantasy, enthralling fantasy. Although it took a little while listening to be grabbed by this audio book, when it did, it didn’t let me go. At the centre of the story a woman who sees the world through God’s songs. Most who hear these songs hear only one, but she, healer and assassin, hears both a song of healing and a song of killing and death. Can she ever find a way find to reconcile these antagonistic strengths? Will the Prince be killed or healed, and who will suffer most? Thank you to Bolinda Audio and NetGalley for the audio ARC.
