This is the cutest book to add to your child's library. It encourages young children to not only follow their dreams, but to pick themselves up after a fall.
I want to turn @netgalley and @hadiyahtheauthor, for allowing me to read this one.
I am a Skater Girl is a picture book about Delilah, who gets a birthday gift she has longed for - a skateboard! But things go differently than Delilah expected. She keeps falling! Why can't Delilah skateboard like her friends? Her gift is not fun if she spends all her time on the ground!
The book is an expert lesson in perseverance and working hard to achieve one's goals. It also showcases friendships that continue through bad times as well as good. Hadiyah Schwartzman has included a valuable lesson as Delilah's mother checks to ensure that Delilah is wearing all her safety equipment - helmet, knee pads, and shoulder pads. Fiverr's illustrations are colorful and bursting with action. I am a Skater Girl contains lots of lessons without feeling preachy.
Thank you to NetGalley and Hadiyah Schwartzman for the ARC of this book.

First of all, let me say the full pages of colourful illustrations are next to none. There is so much detail and eye catching colours and really impacted on me and I’m only a child at heart!
Then there’s the diversity that we need in more books which I LOVED, and as children and adults shouldn’t make or need to compound or take notice.
The topic of this I wish I had as a child, and with my kids growing up.
You know that saying?
“If at first you don’t succeed
Try, try try again”
It’s hard when you think you’re either not cut out for something or you’re a failure while everyone else is better than you.
If you get knocked down, it takes a strong person to keep brushing themselves off and starting again. It’s the starting again that’s important and not giving up.
Learning, yes learning all the time even in adversity.
I LOVED this little book.
A great book about defeat and perseverance. Delilah wants to be just like her favorite skateboarder, and believes she will be the best! But as she starts to learn how to skateboard, she falls... a lot. And all of her hopes and dreams feel too far out of her reach. She wants to give up. Then a special guest visits her in the middle of the night (her favorite skateboarder) and tells her not to give up, that she was bad at first too, but after lots of practice, she got to where she was. Determined, Delilah wakes up the next day ready to keep trying. She understands she won't be perfect right away, but now she knows she needs to put in the work if she ever wants to get better.
