I received an ARC of this from NetGalley. This is my honest review.
I enjoyed the premise of this book very much, but I got lost with the scientific explanations. As I told my husband, "Too much sci, not enough fi." And I feel like I didn't get to know Tangle well enough to really care about her or want to root for her. I also didn't enjoy the scenes told from Dodo's POV, though I can see why they were necessary.
Just not the book for me, unfortunately.
Entangled is a young adult novel that follows the story of Tangle, a fourteen year old girl who’s desperate to escape her mundane life. She finds the excitement she’s looking for, thanks to the help of an exceptional scientist, it soon realises that she’s out of her depth.
The first half of this book was exciting and fast paced. I enjoyed the story and Tangle’s well thought out plan of how to travel the world.
After this I feel like the book hit a bit of a slump and started to read more like a travel blog.
The style of writing fit with the young narrative style of the main character, however it felt out of place when in the scientist’s point of view.
Overall I'd say it was an enjoyable read that is more suited to young teenagers.
Thank you to NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for providing mewith this arc.
This book has an interesting premise, but the writing style doesn't quite click with my preferences sadly. The characters are not given enough "pedestrian" attributes to balance out their unusual/exceptional qualities in early descriptions which makes them hard to get emotionally invested in. There is almost no preamble before huge events even in chapter 1, which sets a very fast pace but feels slightly rushed. The narration also feels like its being written by quite a young voice - which for the teenaged protagonist makes sense, but for a successful, world-changing scientist is a little jarring.
A fast-paced and plot-driven story that still manages to keep a moral centre and sends a positive message about contentment and learning from the consequences of your actions. The sci-fi elements are fun and exciting, and the drama is broken up with scenes that read like a travelogue. This would be a great book for any teen--or adult, for that matter--who dreams of travelling. Although I'm not so sure I'd want to do it via teleportation device!
