This was a brilliant start to a new series made all the stronger for the main characters backstory that could have been a book plot in its own right, it has a very established feel to it. As well as a strong cast of police characters including a difficult boss and a struggling new team member there’s a fantastically woven storyline that links what at first appears to be three individual crimes but horrifyingly they have a very disturbing connection. I loved the different voices telling this as it was great to see the impact on a victim as well as from the police perspective and it definitely helped with understanding why someone would abandon their child. The perpetrator was disturbed and his crimes gruesome. This is a series I’ll definitely be interested in continuing, looking forward to book two. 9/10

Fantastic debut novel. DI Alana known as Alan to her team is everything that you wouldn’t expect. She’s a woman and a paraplegic but don’t under estimate her.
This complex plot has an abandoned child at its centre and is very well written with intertwining stories which make this book an explosive read.
Looking forward to more of this detective and her team.

I was a fan of O'Brien's Gaby Darin series and was disappointed when it ended so was delighted to see a new series with another strong female lead - and Detective Alana Mack is even more appealing - a woman who is determined to succeed despite her newly acquired disability. She's strong, but vulnerable, clever, focused - and I'm already thoroughly invested in her as a character. Of course, a strong character would be nothing without an equally strong storyline and O'Brien excels herself here - an abandoned two-year old child and a bag of human remains - how could they possibly be linked? Brilliant twists and turns lead to a satisfactory conclusion, and I for one, am desperate to read the next. Great cover too - I love to see a hint of the story to come in a cover and this is perfect.

An amazing start to the Detective Alana Mack series. This was jam packed with action and suspense and I loved all the twists and turns. I don't want to give any spoilers but this has everything you would want in a thriller and more, you won't want to put it down. I couldn't wait to find out who the culprit was and I can't wait for the next for the next in the series.

Great book! Wow! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this one! This book had a bit of everything! It had suspense, intrigue, action, brutal murders, sadistic serial killer, abuse, kidnapping, and some really crazy twists and turns! The storyline was very interesting and had me glued to my Kindle till the very end! I highly recommend reading this book as it was well worth reading! I can't wait for more!
