Marc Novak is a private detective that has been given a week to find the lost treasure of the Romanovs, failure would result in the death of his friends and family. In order to save his own life and those he love he needs to say ahead of his enemies
This book grabbed me and threw me into action with great company. This is what I needed. Fast pace, action, and a treasure to find. I haven't had so much fun reading an adventure novel in a long time. The main character, Marc Novak, ultimately won my heart. A passionate detective with a sense of humour and the arrogance of a cheeky teenager. No wonder his team of buddies cheered him on until the end. I was too. What I liked the most, however, was that the novel version of the history of the Romanov family (reduced by and focused on the most important events) in an unusual way aroused my desire to know more about their fate. And the fact that it was initially adapted way for the needs of this story and not focused on the character of Anastasia as usual. I won't say more because I'll tell you everything. A great novel if you like adventure books with exciting puzzles.
This had the potential to be a great book; a bit of history, mystery and intrigue. The book was alright but I found the ending a bit disappointing. The writing style was good, short and snappy but I didn’t find myself warming to any of the characters and I finished the book feeling unsatisfied.
Private detective Marc Novak is the man you want on your side if you're in trouble. He’s ruthless, single-minded and after results.
After Collinson's first book about Marc Novak, An Accident in Paris, we are now treated to the second instalment in the series - The Romanov Code.
Building on the historic events of the last of the Romanov family being butchered by the Bolsheviks in 1918, Collinson has created a well-woven tale of secrets, brutality, blackmail and hope.
Marc Novak has been given the task to track down the lost treasures of the Romanovs which haven't been seen for over a century. Failure would mean that all he holds dear would be killed.
The hunt is on! Unfortunately he isn't the only one after the treasures and a fierce chase takes place where it's not absolutely clear who he can trust and what tales are true.
Amazing! Highly recommended!
I didn’t think there was any new way to present a story about the Romanovs but Gavin Collinson has proved me wrong. Marc Novak is a private detective who really gets his teeth into any job he takes on; he won’t rest until he solves whatever task has been set for him. This time it’s a Romanov mystery, with several seemingly impossible requests made by a Russian female ex spy. He has a handful of trusted friends who he will do anything for, like Frank, his mentor who seems to be holding out on him but can’t work out why. The plot has so many twists and turns that you could get dizzy, but all the details are there to help you work out where the answers lie and the plot is going. It’s fast paced, obviously really well researched, and so believable. A couple of heart stopping moments had me gasping out loud, and not wanting to stop reading. I hadn’t read the first in this series, but I will be, however this is still a standalone read. I’ll also be looking out for the next in this series. Highly recommended.
