Rachel Marks is just brilliant! One December Day is an emotional rollercoaster from beginning to end. There is nothing to dislike about this one at all.
Laura and Luke are a perfect match. Only they have a complete journey through this one and itβs just a beautiful ride from beginning to end. Luke is a musician and Laura questions constantly if she is good enough.
This is beautifully written. I love that we get both Luke and Lauraβs perspectives. This really allows us to get to know the characters.
Sarah is a brilliant friend to both our main characters. She has her own struggles throughout this one which add to the emotional element.
This is quite possibly my new favourite book by Marks. I have devoured this book in just one sitting.
I have no hesitation in recommending this gorgeous gem to other readers.

really enjoyed this book but at times i needed to yell at the characters to tell them to get their acts together!!
a story of love and life and how sometimes it isnβt as straight forward as it should be
a great read

I really loved this book.
One December day is the story of Laura and Luke. Laura met Luke while at Uni and he was in a band. A baby comes along and will life change.
The book follows the 16th of December each year and we see how the relationship changes over time.
Easy to read I loved this book it really looks at the relationship and was quite emotional

I really liked how the story was told. Firstly, it is in the 2 person POV, Laura and Luke, the two main characters. Secondly it takes place on 16 December each year, as that is the day they met and becomes significant over the years.
I did like Laura and Luke, however, did get extremely frustrated with them and wanted to shake some sense into them at times.
There was a good range of supporting characters but I really liked Sarah and her no-nonsense attitude.
This is a lovely read that is quite emotional at times and demonstrates that one of the keys to a successful relationship is communication. It is one I would definitely recommend.
Thank you Netgally and Michel Joseph, Penguin Random House for the opportunity to read this ARC copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

An emotional love story that takes part on the 16th December each year in Luke and Lauraβs lives. Told from both their viewpoints, this story both frustrates - as you feel like giving both Laura and Luke a good shake - and envelopes you in the love shown between them and their friends - as we follow the two of them through every good and bad decision made.

I detest the characters but I loved the story and the author did a good job as delivers a story that kept me hooked even if I disliked Laura and Luke for most of the time.
Festive and heartwarming
Recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this ARC, all opinions are mine

Thanks to the Publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.
The story is about Laura and Luke, set on the 16th December, the same day over different years. We find out how their lives have changed from their initial meeting. Itβs told in individual points of view.
I loved the setting and the characters were lovely. It had a mixture of emotions along the way.
I highly recommend this book.

A heart warming Christmas read.
While Laura is at university one Christmas eve she meets Luke who is in a band and going places then soon a baby arrives and things are difficult with Luke and his band working away lots, can they survive till the next Christmas.
The story is told every Christmas as they try to hold things together.
A lovely story of second chances.
Thanks to the publishers and Netgalley for the ARC and I give my honest review.

Thanks for the opportunity to read and review. I loved Rachelβs previous books and Iβm pleased to say that I loved this one too
The relationships feel so real that you forgot this is a fiction book.

A book that may require you to have tissues close by as it will definitely tug on your emotions as you navigate life, the last and the future with the characters in this book.

A beautiful story that is so easy to believe and engage with. This book runs through the emotions along with the characters and keeps you on the edge from start to finish.

Rachel Marks is an absolute master at writing the most powerful and raw stories, populated by characters who are written with such depth, personality and realness. Her stories are messy, complicated and just so very human, gosh I love them. Last years Hello, Stranger was one of my books of the year and this years One December Day is another that will not be easily forgotten.
One December Day is a story that takes place over 15 years, as we visit Luke and Laura on the 16th December each year beginning in 2004. This is a story told in duel POV and so we are able to get really close to what is happening from both Luke and Lauraβs perspectives. So much happens in their lives from the pregnancy that takes them be surprise (itβs on the blurb donβt worry not a spoiler alert!) to Lukeβs band sky rocketing to fame. But what happens as their spark begins to fade, will they find itβs better to drift apart or allow themselves to fight for one another?
I donβt want to say too much about the plot of this book as given itβs nature I think itβs better for the reader to experience it as it unfolds. You are immediately drawn into the changes as each year goes by and it makes it really hard to put down as you just want to find out what happens next. Luke and Laura are supported by a wonderful secondary cast of characters, of which Sarah was the stand out. Sarahβs own story within the novel is as heartbreaking as it is hopeful and often brought me to tears.
What I loved so much about this book is that itβs not only a love story but a story of the evolving nature of parenthood, and just as Marks doesnβt shy from the realities of relationships nor does she of the equal highs and lows of being a parent. As we see Dylan grow so too so we see Laura and Luke evolve into their new roles. It was a really powerfully done.
Overall a wonderfully read and one Iβd highly recommend.

I have read all of Rachel Marks books and this is another great one!
Laura & Luke meet on their early 20s with their first date on 16th December and the story visits the same day each year until 2018. Marks does a great job of being able to cover the events of the year leading up to the date in each chapter, there are some real heartbreaking situations, what I like about this book is itβs real, the reflection on real life and relationship journeys is reflected so very well.
Great pace of storytelling, I couldnβt put it down!!

Enjoyable romantic read that takes both viewpoints in a relationship on the same December day each year through parenthood and separation. Will they make it through. Easy read.

A yearly snapshot into the lives of Luke and Laura and their son Dylan.
The story starts with the couple meeting, and goes through all the various facets of a life together both good and bad, with all the issues being part of couple brings.
Various other characters meld into the story, as in our own lives. But at the end of the day all that matters are the 2 people who started the story.
Really enjoyed it!

I loved the title of this book and hoped it would as good as it sounded. In fact, it was amazing. A lovely, cosy read for those autumn nights. Thank you for the ARC.

Lovely family saga, told over several years on one special day of each year. A nice easy to read story that I was becoming a little bored with to be honest until a shocking turn of events, something very close to my own heart, which pulled me right back in.
Not a ground-breaking book yet still an enjoyable read. A few typos throughout that need addressing before publication, but this doesnβt overly distract from the read.
Thank you for the opportunity π

I would like to thank the author, the publisher and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read an ARC of this book. I thoroughly enjoyed it and look forward to reading more from this author.

While I really enjoyed this book, it really frustrated me as well! Luke and Laura got together when they were quite young and had only been seeing each other a few months when Laura got pregnant. The day their son Dylan is born is the anniversary of their first date and Luke proposes and Laura says yes. But they never end up getting married.
Luke is the frontman of a band that is going places and while he and Laura aren't getting married, they're staying together but it becomes too difficult for Laura with him leaving all the time and in her mind, always putting the band first. She wanted to be Luke's priority and while she was, Luke wasn't very good at telling her this or balancing his relationship with his band schedule.
Eventually Laura walks away but it's clear that they're both still in love, they're just really, really, really bad at actually talking to each other about this - which is why I was so frustrated.
The story is told in dual POV on the anniversary of their first date and Dylan's birthday - December 16th every year from 2004 to 2018. Even as they both get older and you would think, more mature, they're incapable of actually talking to one another about how they feel. Instead they say what they think the other one needs to hear or in Laura's case, she tells Luke it can't happen between them and he needs to move forward with his current girlfriend, but then gets upset that he didn't fight for her! I mean you're mid-thirties! Grow up!
I do feel that Luke grew quite a bit as a person throughout the story, he knew where he was failing and he tried to rectify it while Laura may have moved forward in her career, she remained closed off and emotionally stagnant. So frustrating but also, it was real.
Thanks to NetGalley and Michael Joseph, Penguin Random House for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.

I enjoyed this book. Meeting at university, an unplanned pregnancy and the ongoing relationship. Wrapped up in motherhood and conflicting schedules.
How communication is key and resentment escalate.
A relationship as it matures and develops.
An honest and true account that will resonate with lot's of people.
Will they find reallytheir way back to each other?
