Another fantastic book by shari low......she just keeps getting better and better.
I loved the format of this book which follows the story of grandmother Cathy McLean, her daughter, Helena and her granddaughter, Eve over the course of a few Christmas eves.
It's a great story that links the lives of the generations as family secrets are uncovered and challenges are met.
Will the 3 women reveal their deepest secrets of the past to move on with their futures.
Highly recommended

I absolutely loved this book, perfect for getting into the festive spirit. Beautifully written and so easy to get absorbed and before you k ow it you've lost half a day.

This was a lovely story from Low and a warming way to get you into the festive spirit. Once again, this is a story that takes place over twenty four hours, with the added twist that it focuses on three decades.
Daughter, mother and grandmother have their stories told in this novel, with the book opening with daughter Eve, discovering that her father is not who she thought he was. In a complete turmoil, Eve knows she needs to find out more but Christmas Eve is not the best of times with her mother’s birthday and her grandmother moving house. With her mother’s story, Helena, telling of a Christmas Eve in 1993, the more you read, the more it is evident that this day has a significant impact on Eve.
Helena and Cathy’s story are all linked to Eve’s, even if Cathy’s takes place in the 1960s. It was interesting to see how the same day unfolded for each woman, decades apart but with life-changing consequences. I felt connected to all narratives and enjoyed how Low cycles between the characters, taking readers back in time and reliving the same period over again.
Despite taking place on Christmas Eve however, I don’t think this was too tinsel-fied because there was so much more going on in the narrative. Exploring a family history is the theme of this story and I enjoyed seeing the ties that bind these women together, beyond a shared set of genetics. Helena’s story was one of the more surprising and whilst I did predict the outcome, I liked seeing how her character altered under such a high-tension situation – the complete opposite to her fun-loving mother, Cathy.
This was another great read from Low that I really enjoyed. It is a great “warm-up” read for Christmas and I liked seeing how the same day was lived so very differently over the decades.
With thanks to Boldwood books and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Another hit from Shari Low, three generations of women and how each of their Christmas eve days are all interlinked through their customs, traditions and love. Recommend it.

I wondered if it was a bit early for a Christmas book but have loved some of Shari Low's novels previously so gave into temptation with this one!
One Christmas Eve is not really a book about Christmas as such but more about the date itself!
The book centres around three generations of women from a family, a mum, daughter and grandmother and the storyline jumps between the 1960s, 1990s and 2023 to piece together their individual stories.
As always Shari's characters are relatable and likeable and we are drawn into the story.
Another enjoyable book about family, love and friendship!

One Christmas Eve explores the lives of three women—Cathy McLean in 1968, her daughter Helena in 1993, and Eve Quinn in 2023—their stories are intricately woven together through transformative Christmas Eve moments. Cathy faces a surprise visit from her lost love, forcing her to make a life-changing decision. In 1993, Helena anticipates a joyful proposal from her boyfriend, only to confront unexpected heartbreak. The story culminates in 2023, as Eve discovers a shocking truth that unravels generations of secrets. The novel explores the complexities of family, the impact of choices, and the enduring power of love across three distinct decades.

I loved this so much. I laughed and I cried. Buy this was such a great and moving story. I loved every word of it. Loved this so much!

great Christmas story of multiple generations of women and their love lives . All taking part years apart on Christmas. You will like this book.

A fun festive read and I do love a good Christmas read. The story follows the life of Cathy, her daughter and her grand-daughter. Three generations of women, family dynamics, friendships, love and of course Christmas eve.
Loved the story and the characters, they each had their own personalities and differences which made it more real. It is a great book about families and that is what I liked about it. Easy to read and drew me in. A great read.
Thank you NetGalley and Boldwood Books for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.

One Christmas Eve by Sheri Low follows the experience of Christmas Eve from 3 different perspectives across 3 different people and years. The story follows 3 different individuals: a grandmother, mother, and daughter and how they’ve experienced the holiday. This story weaves together the events that shaped the lives of Cathy McLean (grandmother), Helena (mother), and Eve Quinn. What you will find is a family that has had to make choices which lead to complications in their lives. While you feel that you are reading 3 different plots (one for each main character), you will be surprised at the way they all end up melding together to make a heartwarming story. Each chapter brings different elements to the story with different dynamics, story lines, and insights. I couldn’t put the book down. I highly recommend this book and author. Thank you the publisher and NetGalley for the advance copy in exchange for my honest review. I look forward to reading more from this author.

An uplifting book. About Christmas and love. It is really festive and is a really nice read. I enjoyed it. If you are looking for a festive book look no further.

This story takes place over one day , Christmas Eve and weaves together the lives of three generations: Cathy, her daughter Helena and granddaughter, Eve. They have a complicated dynamic as Cathy has largely been the mother figure to Eve. The reasons for this emerge as the story unfolds. This is a warm and uplifting story with family at its very centre. In fact, family ties are the motivating force behind the plot and tell you so much about the characters.
The three women are quite different personalities. Set in three different decades, 1968, 1993 and 2023, the plot lines are woven together and some surprising links emerge. Christmas is the backdrop to all three stories and whilst it can be described as festive, it is by no means the dominant factor. This makes it a good choice as an early Christmas read.
In short: a warm, uplifting story of family with a touch of romance.

Another brilliant read from this author. I loved this one as it made me laugh alot. Which is so uplifting whilst you are reading a festive book. My thanks to netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

Wow! Every Shari Low story transports me to somewhere else and gets me invested with heart and soul right from the start. I smile, cry and laugh along with the main characters.
Out of the three women, I think I loved Cathy the most. She was just so full of life and such a character and exactly what I expect from Shari!
Nevertheless, the stories of all these 3 women really touched me, even Helena’s despite the fact that I wasn’t very fond of her. I smiled, I cried and I even laughed.
Shari hit a home run once again with this brilliant story set at Christmas. I cannot recommend this book enough.

My expectations of this book were high as I've read a lot of shari lows books! And boy this book did not disappoint! Perfect read to get you into the Christmas spirit.

I had high hopes for this book as I have loved every single one of Shari’s books….and it certainly didn’t disappoint! As always, it was full of love, family, friendships and relationships, all rolled into a fabulous storyline. It tells the story of 3 generations of women from one family, Cathy, Helena and Eve, and their story gradually unfolds over one day, but years apart. The way in which their lives and stories are intertwined, all coming together in the most perfect ending, was an absolute joy to read. Can’t wait for your next one, Shari!

I loved this book so much! So well written and the way the stories of the three women was woven together was really well thought out. I love all Shari Low books that I’ve read but I think this is my favourite x

A beautiful read full of great characters and their stories. The links between the relationships were beautifully written and I loved seeing how the three decades were woven together to produce a wonderful story. Each character was given a voice per chapter which meant reading about Cathy, Helena and Eve interested me from the very beginning and the journey each of them went on was so clever. Shari Low always writes such wonderful stories full of emotion and this is a definite recommendation from me.

3 women and 3 Christmas Eve’s over the years
2023 is Eve’s story
1993 is Helena, Eve’s mum
1968 is Cathy, Helena’s mum and Eve’s gran
Eve needs some answers as she has just had some unexpected news but doesn’t expect her mum and her grans secrets
Loved it

One Christmas Eve is set in Glasgow on Christmas Eve in 1968, 1993 and 2023. Each year features a member of the same family: Grandmother - Cathy, her daughter Helena and granddaughter Eve. The story starts with Cathy marrying someone after giving up the idea that her first love will return to her. In 2023, Eve knows that something has been kept from her for 25 years, and all she wants for Christmas is the truth. Each woman has a romance or love story and they come together in an amazing way.
I loved this story. It is full of Christmas magic and I thought it was a wonderfully written story to bring this family together and discover some surprises along the way. They are all great characters, who made some mistakes in life, but made the most out of what they were dealt. There were several heartbreaking and heartwarming moments in this book and my emotions were all over the place. I don't want to spoil this story, so am not going to say much else. Apparently, Shari Low has several books that are set in a 24 hour period, so I will be looking for some of them. I highly recommend this wonderful, magical Christmas story.
