My first festive read of the season!
This book is written in the same format as some of my other Shari Low favourites, across one day, but in three different decades. We follow the lives of Eve, her mother Helena, and her grandmother Cathy, and their love lives are anything but simple.
It took me a little longer to get into this one and remember who everyone was, but I thoroughly enjoyed the ups and downs of each storyline, and the overarching theme of true love. The ending is beautiful. HAPPY TEARS! 🥲
Great characters, great storylines, great loves!
Highly recommend!
What a wonderful feel-good story taking you through Christmas Eve for three generations of woman. I love stories that cross time and generations within a family, and this was done expertly. I love Shari Low's writing and all the heartfelt moments in this novel. Life is complicated, and this book does a fantastic job of showing us the things that matter. ❤️❤️❤️
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the advanced digital reader's copy (ARC) in exchange for an honest review!
This may have a seasonal title but for me this is a book that can be read any time of year ( I'm reading this in August). Three generations and three different timelines, all easy to follow, each one with the person's name and the date on each alternating chapter. One in current time with Eve’s grandmother about to move house. The next in the middle generation is Eve Mother’s Helena, one who is rather distant emotionally from the others if not physically, and the last is the grandmother Cathy and her sister back in the 1960’s.
This is my first Shari Low book (where have I been?) and most certainly won’t be my last- I most certainly have some catching up to do. From the outset there’s a warmth of character, especially Eve the granddaughter and Cathy the grandmother. They have a special relationship which I feel many will relate to and empathise with. This is such a clever plot and premise- one that blew me away and left me with a smile as I'm writing this. A story of family and of the traumas of life and how sometimes it's the smallest of things that can change the world. A kindness or a smile can mean so much. A truly uplifting story that restores the faith in human nature. You might have guessed by now that I loved this. I'm off to find more by Shari. Enough said!

A really wonderful story. Three generations of smart strong women who tell their stories on Christmas Eve. It’s a beautifully written emotional story of love, loss, secrets, discovery, change, shocking discoveries, heartbreak and moving forward and more. Really lovely read with a fabulous ending. This book exemplifies why I adore this prolific author.
Set on a Christmas Eve, with three ladies of different ages telling of their Christmas Eve. Lovely story and a great idea. Loved this book, giving it 5 stars.
Thanks to Netgalley and publisher for this ARC
I really enjoyed this story. The characters were fun and the I liked that the author told each Christmas Eve through their three perspectives.
One Christmas Eve is actually about three Christmas Eve's.
Three generations of women all have significant things happen to them on a Christmas Eve.
Cathy tells her story in the 1960's, Helena tells hers in the 1990's and Eve's story takes place in the current timeline.
With the title I was expecting a little more holiday vibe from the book. There really wasn't that much. However, it is still a great story. The women each all have their secrets and much different personalities. A few twists along the way made for an interesting book.
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a good family saga type book.
Thanks to netgalley and Boldwood Books for the arc.

One Christmas Eve

“Three women, three decades, three Christmas Eve moments that change their lives forever…”
One Christmas Eve goes between three generations of women on three different Christmas Eves, they are all in life changing situations that happen to fall on Christmas Eve.
Let me start off with what I liked about this book:
- [ ] Multiple POVs
- [ ] Multiple timelines
- [ ] Cathy’s story
What wasn’t my favorite:
- [ ] I didn’t care for Helena’s or Eve’s stories as much
- [ ] To long
- [ ] Not enough Christmas vibes
Thank you NetGalley and Boldwood Books for gifting me this ACR in exchange for my honest review.
One Christmas Eve takes place over three Christmas Eves. Eve’s story is told in 2023. Helena’s story takes place in 1993. Cathy’s story begins in 1968. Cathy is the matriarch of the family, Helena is her daughter, and Eve is Helena’s daughter. Cathy and Eve are very close. Helena has always been a little apart from the family. Everything comes together in the last chapters. Early on, I wondered how this was all going to mesh together. But Shari Low blends the story seamlessly. This is a great read. Five stars all the way!
Another excellent book from Shari Low, like some of her other recent books this is based on a single day but there is a twist this time. It covers a significant Christmas Eve for three generations of the same family and we learn how decisions made on that day affect the families future. As always Shari Low writes with humour and empathy, and her characters are always people you would like to meet and learn more about.
I love Shari Low's books and this is another set in three different timelines and with three generations of women, Cathy in the 60's, her daughter, Helena in the 90's and Helena's daughter, Evie in 2023. Each woman's story takes place on Christmas Eve in the various decades and we learn of their lives, loves, losses, challenges etc, all of which make for a wonderful read. I love how each chapter relates to each different character and each ends on a mini cliffhanger. The book concludes brilliantly as the three narratives tie up perfectly. As always, Shari delivers a fascinating, page turning and thoroughly enjoyable novel. My thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This was my first of Shari Low’s books. I enjoyed reading this story in 3 parts, each relating to one family member. It is very cleverly written as it describes the events of Christmas Eve for the 3 ladies although years apart. I found it very interesting and loved how the ending pulled the stories together. I would recommend this book that I read in a weekend.
One Christmas Eve is a multi generational book set on Christmas Eve over three different years, 1968, 1993 and 2023. The book centres around Cathy (grandmother), Helena (mother) and Eve (granddaughter) and the lives and the decisions they made.
Eve discovers that after completing a dna test, her father is not her father and so she seeks to find answers from her grandmother and mother about her identity. As the story unfolds we discover about Cathy's long lost love, who she always held a flame for and her mothers very rare impulsive decision that was part of Eve's journey to who she is today.
The author creates some adorable characters. You feel immersed in their stories and lives. This is a book full of love between generations of strong, funny and independent women finding love and happiness,.
This book is beautifully written; perfect for a cold winters night with a cup of hot chocolate. It leaves you with a warm fuzzy feeling and entices that Christmas spirit.
I would firstly just like to say a big thank you to Rachel’s Random Resources who very kindly forwarded me an arc copy of this book, for my kindle, in return for my honest review.
One Christmas Eve is a gorgeous, festive story, revolving around three women, three decades, three Christmas Eve moments that will change their lives forever.
In 1968 we meet Cathy, in 1993 we meet Cathy’s daughter, Helena and in 2023 we are introduced to Eve.
Right from the very beginning of this book i was pulled in and it wouldn’t let me go all the way through, i just couldn’t read it fast enough!
This book was intriguing and emotional and had that ‘feel good’ vibe and i thoroughly enjoyed it…….
Over 3 decades, One Christmas Eve tells the story of 3 family members, each with their own outcome of this special night.
A brilliantly written book, that I laughed and cried through and would recommend 100%
I really liked this book! I did have to pay attention and read a bit slower just so I could keep everyone straight. There’s some surprises along the way and I couldn’t read this book fast enough. It was lovely!
Thanks to Rachel’s Random Resources for the early copy
I have enjoyed Shari’s “one” series, and this addition to the collection was no exception. Shari writes characters that are realistic and stories that are relatable while still feeling like you’re escaping into someone else’s life.
One Christmas Eve takes place over 24 hours but spans 3 generations of women in the same family.
In 1968 Cathy is getting ready to give birth to her first child, but a face from her past comes calling and has her questioning her feelings and her future
In 1993 Helena, who is the child Cathy gave birth to in 1968, is a workaholic and is preparing for a birthday party with her family and her boyfriend, who is getting ready to propose.
And in 2023, Eve, who is Helena’s daughter, takes a DNA test and gets life altering results & now has to figure out what to do with them and about them.
The actions from the past bring consequences to the future and the women are all left to deal with them ans their feelings. A tale of love, loss & rekindling unfolding over the years.
I loved the bond between the women, especially Cathy and Eve. Cathy’s character was so funny-lots of great quips! A great holiday read but really good for anytime you need a warm family story.
Thanks to Boldwood Books and NetGalley for this eArc in exchange for my review.

It’s the 1960’s. Cathy is heavily pregnant when her former boyfriend Ritchie comes to her door on Christmas Eve years after going to sea. But Cathy is happily married and can’t accept his love anymore. Christmas Eve in 1993, Cathy’s daughter, young solicitor Helena, has had a crazy day. At dinner with her parents, her life is changed forever. As the day unfolds on Christmas Eve 2023, Cathy is moving to a retirement apartment, and her granddaughter Eve is helping her move.

Shari Low’s beautiful stories that spotlight a moment in time seem to improve with each one released and One Christmas Eve is no exception. I loved this lovely read that shares the effects of one day in time, and how quickly things can change. I adored the way things just come together towards the end, for both Cathy, Helena and Eve. The significance of the day and how this plays out over time is heartwarming, sparkling like a binge-able holiday read ❤️

I really loved this one.
We follow three generations of one family through one day, Christmas Eve. However it’s not just this Christmas Eve but two in the past that had very important consequences for the rest of the family and the future. How will revelations from the past change everyone’s futures?
To start with, I felt I might get a little lost, not because of the changing time line but because of the cross over of the characters in the different times, however it all slotted together really well and made for a story you couldn’t put down.
The more I read the more engrossed I became.
The author writes in such a way that you can visualise the scenes and really makes you feel for the characters, especially gran and granddaughter, but in the end you will love all the characters.
The epilogue finishes off the story perfectly but I really hope there will be a sequel, I’d love to read more about these characters.
All in all a great read. Something a little different to your usual Christmas book, with it just being set across one day but this works really well.
I would definitely read more from this author and will be seeking out other books she has written.
One Christmas Eve is Shari Low’s gift to readers - three Christmas stories, each wrapped with heartache and love. On Christmas Eve in 1968, Cathy is expecting her first child and waiting for her husband to return from a business trip. But the man who comes to her door that night is not her husband but the love of her life who left her for his own travels. Now he’s back and Cathy faces a difficult, painful choice. Christmas Eve 1993 brings a different decision to Cathy’s daughter Helena. She’s planned her life down to the tiniest detail. She’ll be a lawyer, married to the rising star in the firm. They’ll have no children but will find blazing success in their careers. And on this latest Christmas Eve, Cathy’s granddaughter and Helena’s daughter Eve makes a life changing discovery. Should she share it with her family?
One Christmas Eve is a quick, charming read that will leave you with a smile. Each woman has to make a decision under pressure and each chooses what she thinks will be right for her family. We, the readers, get to see how it turns out for them. 5 stars and a Merry Christmas!
