Eve didn't expect to get the results from a DNA test: her dad isn't her dad. This is a huge shock, but Christmas Eve with her grandmother Cathy, who she gets on well with, and not with her mother Helena.
I have loved and reviwed a lot of Shari Low's books, and the Christmas atmosphere and family relationships are what she does so well.
She uses the 2 hour timeframe in some other books, and it's a unique way to structure the story. Her pacing is always great.
Secrets, memories and flashbacks abound in the latest novel by Shari Low.
Thanks to Shari Low, Boldwood Books and Rachel's Random Resources for my eARC in exchange for an honest and voluntary review.

In this beautiful, heartfelt story, Eve has a special bond with her grandmother, Cathy, but doesn’t understand her own mother, Helena, at all. The day is Christmas Eve, they are celebrating her mother’s birthday and Eve just found out from a DNA test that her father isn’t really her father at all.
Told in 2-hour segments on Christmas Eve and flashbacks to previous Christmas Eves, this charming story had my interest on the rise right up to the end.
Another delightful book from Shari Low and a fabulous read for the holidays. 4.5⭐

Shari Low is a great author & I love books about Christmas so this was right up my street.
Thanks for the opportunity to read & review it.
Love love love! I have read and loved every Shari Low book and I honestly think this is her best one yet. The story of Cathy; Helena and Eve; three
generations of family; each with their story of Christmas Eve in their 2o’s. This book was so beautiful, I was invested in all the characters and can’t wait to see if there’s a follow up of their lives as with so many of Shari’s books. Read on my sunlounger in a day!
Various time periods along with realistic characters keep this book moving quickly. Friendship and family. I liked this novel. This would make a good movie. This book was sent to me electronically by Netgalley for review. Thanks to the publisher and gifted author.
What a glorious Christmas story! I absolutely loved it! Shari Low weaves a tale of holiday magic, long held secrets and second chance romances. I really needed to read a positive and uplifting book this summer. I couldn’t put it down and I immediately fell in love with Cathy, Helena and Eve; three generations of strong-willed women who left a lasting impression on my heart.
In “One Christmas Eve” we follow along during one 24 hour period in the lives of each woman, across many years, culminating in secrets being revealed and lives being changed forever. All of the women were independent, career oriented and proud of what they had accomplished. Cathy found true love as a young woman in the late 1960’s, Helena thought she was in love in the early 1990’s and in 2023, Eve was searching for who she really was. Eve had recently discovered disturbing information concerning her father which resulted in her confiding in her grandmother Cathy, and confronting her mother Helena, in the hopes of finding out the truth once and for all. I was overjoyed by the emotional and heartfelt revelations shared by all involved and it was the perfect ending to another beautiful story from the amazing Shari Low!!
Shari Low is the queen of escapism, her books are utterly engrossing and One Christmas Eve doe not buck this trend.
Three stories play out on the pages - told by three females in the same family - Cathy - the grandmother, Helena - the daughter, and Eve - the granddaughter. Each story intertwines and in true Low style, there is a lovely twist at the end of the novel.
The author's characters are richly described, believable and really come alive on the pages and I love how Low incorporates Scottish slang into her writing as it makes the story even more relatable.
A heartwarming Christmas tale that leaves you internally glowing - just what you want for the festive season.
This was a gorgeous multigenerational family read set on Christmas Eve but during a key moment in three different decades. Eve has just had a big shock regarding her personal history and is also having to make a big decision about a good friend of hers whereas back in the nineties her mum Helena is facing a dilemma about her boyfriend and back further to the sixties Eve’s grandmother Cathy is dealing with a very special face from the past.
All three characters are great and very different especially Helena who is very emotionally closed off. This story weaves together so well with some strange coincidences which work well due to the great way the lives of characters overlap. Whilst set on Christmas Eve I’d say this is far more of a warm and uplifting family drama than Christmas read and I sped read through this in a day! 9/10
