A feel good meet cute kind of book based primarily in New York with a peppering of London too, what’s not to like? I enjoyed the location, I really fell in love with both Charlie and Pete’s characters too, they were endearing and felt like the boy/girl next door. There were a couple of slips in POV that threw me a little but apart from that, thoroughly adorable Christmas read.

I am really enjoying the Boldwood Books Christmas readalong of Fairytale of New York by Zoe Folbigg.
New York is definitely a place I'd like to visit at Christmas. I feel for Charlie having to find her way around the big apple on her own at Christmas though, but I have to say I do like the sound of the B&B she is staying in.
Who is my favourite character so far? Charlie...who is my favourite side character? Mabel the cat 😻 but I am also curious about the girl in the red dungarees...who is she?
This book is really getting me in the mood for Christmas and I can't wait to see what happens next. Having finished the book, I really loved it and is the perfect Christmas read.

Charlie can’t wait for Christmas as she’ll be joining her boyfriend who now has a job in New York. Things are not quite what she expected when she gets there. Now this is a pleasantly written book with lots of interesting descriptions of the Big Apple, quite the little travelogue. But there’s far too much padding, pages and pages featuring Charlie’s job, the people she works with and it was all very tedious so I skim read those sections as fast as possible. Then there’s the utter predictability of the plot and you knew exactly what was going to happen and who with. No surprises at all which is a shame as it doesn’t stand out from any other novel with a similar storyline. A nice piece of frothy light reading and fairly enjoyable!

this was such a fascinating read and I couldn't see what was going to happen throughout. I really enjoyed the writing style and found the characters to be well developed.

The moment a new book is released by Zoe Folbigg I just know I have to read it!.
This book focuses on so much more than a simple romance.... it gives a more in-depth look to the complexities we find within relationships in our lives.... yet still provides you with that truly heart-warming storyline I craved.

Wonderful characters, a captiviting storyline... a perfect read!

Zoë Folbigg returns with another magical tale perfect for snuggling up with: Fairytale of New York.

Thirty-two year old Charlie Brown is so excited she can barely contain herself. In just a couple of hours, she will be in New York where she will be reunited with her beloved boyfriend Harry. Charlie cannot wait to be back in her boyfriend’s arms again after work had kept them apart for so long, however, her excitement quickly turns to worry when she lands and Harry is nowhere to be found. Has something happened to him? Has he been in an accident? Why isn’t he picking up her calls? As Charlie’s imagination runs away with her, she finally comes to an even more shocking conclusion: maybe Harry just doesn’t want her anymore…

Far from home, heartbroken and all alone, Charlie does not know what she is going to do. With everything seeming hopeless, a desolate Charlie decides that she is not going to curl up in a corner and cry, but is going to dust herself off and try and find out what really happened to Harry. Helped by a handsome new friend called Pete, Charlie is about to realise that happiness might be closer than she actually thought – she just needs to start looking in the right direction and open herself up to love.

Zoë Folbigg’s Fairytale of New York is sheer bliss from start to finish. A heartwarming, emotional and engaging tale about the curveballs life throws us sometimes, finding the courage to be happy and falling in love, Fairytale of New York is sure to make everyone laugh and cry.

Hopeful, captivating and gloriously escapist, Zoë Folbigg’s Fairytale of New York will chase the winter blues away!

Fairytale of New York by Zoë Folbigg is a story that captures the complicated emotions of relationships so well. It’s not just a book about romance, it has suspense, heartache, new love, second chance, and it takes place in New York and London.

Fairytale of New York did a great job of capturing love, loss, a new love story with complicated lives, and you feel all of it with the characters. The main characters and side characters were written so well. This was such a enjoyable read and I recommend it. Thank you Net Galley and to Boldwood Books for providing me with an ARC for my honest thoughts and opinions.

New Author to me, enjoyed the story development and characters, it's a definitely a recommended read and a new must read author for me.

It started off the wrong foot for me with all the mention of blood, and we know something awful/terrible has happened, then it flows right into a boring 'I need to get to the airport' moment that just seemed like filler and not at all relevant (plus it wasn't at all interesting). Went from bad to worse from there when the heroine turned out TSTL - no idea where she's going in New York except 'Chelsea'? How did she even get her visa, because a staying address is necessary usually. So many allusions to the past, but no follow through, ended up totally confusing...
I had no idea where this book was going, and the pacing was just too slow and everything happening seeming so irrelevant, I just didn't want to follow along

Once again an absorbing read from Zoe Folbigg. The key characters are wonderfully written. Empathetic - always important for me - and as with The Distance (another absolute cracker from Zoe) the two places the book is set, New York and London, almost become characters in their own right. Her description is second to none and the warmth she evokes in her books is right up my street. Highly recommend.

What an enchanting read that transports us to the magical streets of New York City. With its charming characters and heartwarming romance, it’s a great read from beginning to end. A delightful modern fairytale!

We follow Charlie who travels to NYC to spend the holidays with her boyfriend Harry who ends up being nowhere to be seen! She sorts out accommodation and sets about trying to get to the bottom of what’s happened. Whilst this is all going on, she meets Pete who helps her make the most of her time in NYC.

4.75- I have been wanting to read this book for ages and I finally decided to use an Audible credit for it; I’m so pleased I did! It is such a sweet romance that I almost felt like I was listening to a movie.
So far 32 year old Charlie Brown’s holiday isn’t going as planned. She is meant to be spending Christmas, New Year’s, and a couple of months after with Harry, her on again off again boyfriend of 16 years. Her flight from Heathrow landed at JFK on time, but Harry’s not there, nor is he answering his phone. She knows she’s not going back to London without finding Harry, she’s just not quite sure how to do that. Thankfully she bumps into Pete, a stranger with kind eyes and a good heart, who helps her find her way, not only around the city, but to who she is without Harry.
I loved this book! I found all of the characters (except for the one we’re meant to not like) extremely lovable and I loved the amazing imagery of both London and New York. I truly loved Charlie’s relationships with her parents, her friends, and her coworkers and I really loved Pete. He was such a great character and I’d like to hope that NYC has one or two Petes living there.
I especially enjoyed how this was written. While Charlie is the protagonist and it’s told third person from her POV, we get glimpses into other characters POVs simultaneously. It sounds confusing, but it really isn’t.
Zöe Folbigg has given us an extremely charming story with charming characters and I can’t wait I read the other books she has written. Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for an advanced copy of this. I’m sorry it took me so long to get to it. Fairytale of New York hit the shelves in August of 2023.

So I didn’t like Charlie I found her to be a bit much and started annoying me. I wanted to like her and give her a chance but I couldn’t get over her whining.

This was not the book for me.

A great read that has got romance, suspense and a great setting. This was the first book of Zoe's that I had read but it won't be the last. I liked the character Charlie straight away. She is a hard working girl who loves what she does yet falls for whatever Harry tells her. She gets a very raw deal from him and it is great to see the story unfold. Pete sounds like a great guy and would love to meet him as he sounds such a great, warm person who has also had sadness in his love life. I felt for Charlie on her own in New York after the let down by Harry and so glad she managed to make the most of a horrible situation and consequently meet Pete.

It was a lovely easy read that was well written and I would recommend this book to other readers.

I love all Zoe’s books especially Christmassy ones, this had me gripped from the start feeling so many emotions from annoyed, thoroughly angry, desperately alone and then stronger, I will survive vibes to hopeful.

All starting just before Christmas, Charlie Brown is New York bound from London, to see her boyfriend, Harry, for the holidays, but he doesn’t turn up or answer his phone, nowhere to be found …

What she does from that point on is nothing short of heroic, following her journey determined to find him but also make the most of her time in New York with her new found (attractive) friend Pete, taking in the iconic landmarks, experiencing new adventures and meeting new friends all make for a compelling unputdownable read.

Charlie is leaving England to visit her boyfriend, Harry, in New York City. When she gets to the airport, he never arrives. Left on her own in a strange city, Charlie tries to figure out what to do. She meets Pete who is a kind soul and he shows her around his city and even invites her to his parents for New Years. Charlie is distraught over Harry and takes Pete on as a friend but soon realizes he may be more.
Opinion
This is a great story of heartache and new love. I honestly could not see why she stayed with Harry for so long but Pete was quite lovely. At some points, I wanted to slap her in the face and tell her to wake up and look at the man in front of you instead of looking for the one who didn't care enough to pick you up at the airport. I really had some strong emotions with this book. However, Pete and Charlie's story is fabulous.
Many thanks to Net Galley and to Boldwood Books for providing me with an ARC of this book.

What a perfect winter read. I had the opportunity some time ago to buddy read this alongside other Boldwood Books readers and respond to prompt cards, which made this such a fun readalong. Set across the cities of London and New York, our heroine Charlie is jetting off to the Big Apple to connect with her boyfriend of 16years after work has kept them apart. Her fairytale of New York soon lapses into a nightmare, when she arrives and there in no sign of her boyfriend. Bewilderingly, she does have an address for him. Cold lost confused and hurt, Charlie decides she is not leaving the city until she discovers the truth from Harry. A chance encounter sees her bump into handsome Pete, who offers to help and show her around some of the cities sights en route. Will Charlie get her happy ending? Will it be what she imagined? A lovely winter wonderland romance that would translate well onto the big screen. #fairytaleofnewyork #zoëfolbigg #boldwood #netgalley
