I would firstly just like to say a big thank you to Rachel’s Random Resources who very kindly forwarded me an arc copy of this book, for my kindle, in return for my honest review.
I love Christmas books and i love books set in New York, so when i saw this book i just knew i had to read it and knew that i would love it too and i was not disappointed.
Also the cover of the book is amazing and definitely enticed me in!!
The author’s writing style was perfect and i honestly felt as though i was there in bustling New York City and I loved that feeling.
Fairytale Of New York took me on a wonderful journey and was a lovely escapist read that left me with a big grin on my face…….
This is a first time read by this author for me and I wasn't disappointed. Well thought out and well written. Another author on my list to look out for.
A wonderful romantic book set at Christmas in my favourite city of New York. There were many things I loved about this: the setting, the world of TV make-up, natural disasters and the wonderful warm and passionate relationship that develops between Oere and Charlie. I loved the friends and family on both sides: warm, welcoming and fun to be around. In fact I loved everything except one thing: if Harry had treated me the way he treated Charlie in the past, he wouldn’t have been in the position to stand me up at Christmas in New York. For such a strong and capable heroine, her relationship with Harry was incomprehensible to me.
I enjoyed this one. It started off a little strange but, I gradually got involved with it a d read it quickly. I love Zoe's books and although this wasn't my favourite I can quite happily give it four stars. My thanks to netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.
Thanks to the Publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.
I enjoyed this book by Zoë Folbigg.
Charlie is a caring person, working in TV as a makeup artist, she helps those who lack self confidence..
Soon she’s taking a three month break, and going from London to see her partner Harry, who’s working in New York. She’s hoping to find the job she wants to do whilst there.
But, what she expected to happen doesn’t from the moment she lands.
I recommend this book.
I wasn't sure where this story was going to take me but I must admit it really didn't disappoint at all. I loved reading about Charlie and Pete, it was the perfect festive story!
This book was a bit disappointing. The prologue felt unnecessary and really distracted from what I thought the story was going to be, There were times when we would get another character’s inner thoughts, for example between Charlie and Leyla. I do not think I am the right demographic for this novel as I went in expecting a Christmas novel, but this was not it. Not the book’s fault.
This wasn't quite what I was expecting but I rolled with it and it was OK. The prologue nearly put me off from the very beginning, and now i've read the whole thing it feels totally out of place, jarring and unnecessary. But once I got past that, the story was good. I did like Charlie and loved to hate the villain of this piece.
I was expecting more Christmas vibes so was surprised those few days were skipped and wanted a bit more there.
But a good love interest, some surprising scenes, and good all round read.
I likely am in the minority for this book, as it just wasn't for me. Overall I found the pacing to be off, and the dialogue to be distracting. I couldn't make sense of Charlie's actions, and even though I knew I was supposed to be rooting for her, I couldn't. The "villians" are a bit too villainous for my taste in a romance. And for me, the kicker is that for a Christmas romance, there is very little holiday cheer. I enjoy reading Christmas romance for that warm, fuzzy holiday feeling and this didn't have that for me. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to provide my honest review.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with a copy of this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Fairytale of New York was a truly enjoyable read. The story pulls you in from the start, and you can't help but be drawn into the world of Charlie and Pete. The characters are well developed, the storyline is engaging, and by the end you'll be completely satisfied.
I really enjoyed this novel by Zoë Folbigg. I have not read any of her books before, but I will be looking them up to read now. The main character is Charlie, a makeup artist who not only works in TV but with people who may need help with their self esteem. She is a feisty caring character. Charlie is about to take a three month break from London to visit her partner, Harry, who has taken a job in New York. Charlie is looking to see if she could find her niche there. Unfortunately right from when she arrives, things do not go to plan. This is a delightful, well written novel. I enjoyed it very much, Thank you to Boldwood books and Netgalley for an ARC of this novel.
Overall , I liked parts of the book and other parts I lost interest.
I really enjoyed the parts of the book after Charlie arrived in America in New York — I was invested in that part of the story and character development..
I found it difficult to care about the main character until she arrived at JFK airport and then when Charlie went back to London I wasn’t interested in her relationship with friends and co workers I wanted to the story to stay solely focused on development of the relationship of character Pete — and when Pete was in London. Those chapters I was interested as well . .
Thank you Netgalley and Boldwood books for this ARC , this is my honest review .
This book started out absolutely fantastic but really got dragged down by the end- not really a Christmas themed book but rather a book that takes place around Christmas time
tend to avoid the 'romance' genre, but something about this book drew me in. Maybe it's the Christmastime in New York aspect, but this book was just....lovely.
Charlie is off to New York for three months to stay with her long-term boyfriend. When she arrives, he's no where to be seen....and he's not answering her calls. Through a series of adventures, she meets Pete and he helps her holiday in New York not be a total disaster.
This is about the end of a relationship, and one woman finding real love after a disaster. There are genuinely funny sections of the story as well as sections where I wanted to scream at Charlie, but in the end, it's wrapped up quite lovely and was exactly what I needed between murder books.
I read The Three Loves of Sebastian Cooper last year so was pleased when I saw the same author had another book out this year.
In Fairytale of New York, Charlie travels from London to New York only to discover that her long term boyfriend, Harry, is in fact not waiting to meet her as expected.. With the help of her new friend Pete, Charlie decides to remain in New York to find answers about Harry.’s disappearance.
This is so more than the Christmasy rom-com I expected! I adored Charlie and Pete as characters and their blossoming romance. It’s an enchantingly cosy read which is perfect for snuggling up with over the Christmas period.
When Charlie heads off to spend Christmas and New Year in New York with her long time love, she certainly isn’t expecting to be abandoned at the airport!
As this book progresses we learn more about our main character Charlie as well as the mystery behind where boyfriend Harry is. We meet new friends along the way as this story twists and turns to its conclusion. You feel more for the character as the story continues and you just hope that everything falls into place for her.
It is well written and characters are developed well. The scene is described in detail and you will feel you are walking around New York too.
I really enjoyed this book, my only criticism being I would have liked a couple more chapters at the end rather than everything summed up in the epilogue. I would have loved to have been there when Pete met Charlie’s parents and various other things that were summed up quickly. All in all a great read.
Thanks to NetGalley for a copy of this book.
I enjoyed this book. I love anything set in New York and all the details shared about it.
I loved the male main character, what a dream of a man.
I loves the details of clothes and makeup.
I skipped through the bit at a tourist attraction in the UK.
Reviewed on goodreads - not directly from here as the link doesn't seem to be working and I am unable to link from the website to here as it just directs to the app.
Enjoyed this wintery book half set in New York and half in London! As recently been to NY I reminisced whilst Charlie went on her whistle stop tour and thought the author wrote about those places really well. The story had some more hard hitting moments than your usual Christmas romfic but still had enough romance and humour for me. The love story between Charlie and Pete was great and of course I shouted loudly when Harry returned! Loved the little additions of the telly shows we all know well! Will recommend this.
I enjoyed this book very much, I thought it flowed really well and was easy to enjoy, I read it in a weekend. I was cheering for the main characters all the way through but liked the way it wasn’t a cut and dry chick lit book, the story was believable and I wish I’d met someone like Pete in New York!! Definite recommend x
I really tried to get into this book but I didn't find the writing engaging and kind of found it slow and long winded so ended up dnfing it early on. I just couldn't invest or relate to the characters which made me struggle to get into the book.
