This book was just really not for me after the beginning few chapters. I thought I knew where it was going but nope I was wrong. It just had a lot of things on the negative side that added up for me.

I had a few issues with this book that I just couldn’t get over. First, the character names. There’s Carter, Luke, Liam, Cassie, Claire (and Jason) but how the heck am I supposed to keep them all separated in my head when it take me forever to remember who is who and who is dating who and who is related to who? I also just had some issues with their friendships overall. Everything seemed to be “WHAT?!” and italicized. And keeping things from each other (even if they weren’t bad things) and letting them be revealed later by another person. SLIGHT SPOILER FOR A SCENE in this next sentence so avoid if you want: but when they are talking about Jason living in their apartment for right now and Claire mentions maybe in the future moving out to “‘Ninety days’ notice would be acceptable.’ ‘Ninety days?’ ‘Claire’ ‘Okay, okay’”. OVER: it just made everything more dramatic than necessary.

I felt like I didn’t really get anything out of any of their conversations to each other and started to not care about their involvement because of that sadly. Parts of the book really weren’t that bad and were enjoyable but tended to be overshadowed by some of the negatives unfortunately.

This book went from 0 to 100 with the stalker situation. Knowing some random guy is sending flowers and then it leading to him getting into your house and attacking you AND y’all wanting to kill him out of no where. It just became a little too unbelievable and eye-rolling for me at that point. End then the ending where everything reaches its max and suddenly it’s a how to get away with murder and epilogue all in one. Just really couldn’t tolerate the book by the end.

I received a digital copy from NetGalley & the author of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

Absolutely in love with this series! Can't wait to see more! The characters are carried from the first book but develop so amazingly in this one and the story was not even close to what I expected. If you're looking for suspense, steam and a bit of drama, this is definitely for you!

I had just as much fun reading this one as I did the first book. With solid suspense and fun characters, I'm definitely recommending this series to the romantic suspense readers in my area!

Veiled in Brick by Eliza Modiste is a fast-paced and gripping contemporary romance that explores the complexities of love, friendship, and the unknown. The novel centers around Zoey Sheffield, a woman who craves control and doesn't believe in love. She's a blunt woman who is used to getting what she wants, but the men in her life have made it more complicated than she would like.

The novel is expertly crafted, with well-developed characters and a fast-paced plot that keeps the reader engaged from beginning to end. The author does an excellent job of exploring the dynamics of love and the challenges that come with it. Zoey's struggle to hold onto the reins of her own reality is a central theme of the novel, and the author does an excellent job of portraying her journey of self-discovery.

One of the strengths of Veiled in Brick is its exploration of the unknown and the power of the unexpected. The novel is set against the backdrop of a world that is full of uncertainty, and the threat of danger lurks around every corner. The author does an excellent job of building tension and suspense throughout the novel, keeping the reader on the edge of their seat.

Overall, Veiled in Brick is a beautifully written and emotionally resonant novel that will stay with readers long after they've finished reading it. The novel is a testament to the power of love and the human spirit, and it is a must-read for anyone who loves a good contemporary romance.

The second book in The Veiled Series, we meet Zoey. A do what I want, I'm in control, no thank you to relationships, type of woman who has a couple of small issues.

She has a stalker and she really likes two different guys.

With saucy scenes and a whole lot of unexpected twists and flips, author Modiste brings the suspense with a capital S.

She also brings the sexy spice (also capital S) as she navigates what her heart wants with a whole lot of amazing wit and wisdom.

There are some intense moments that include discussions of childhood trauma and suicide. Additionally, there is an attempted sexual assault and of course, a stalker.

If you don't mind some profanity and the things I mentioned above, it's a hot, suspenseful read for certain.

I received an ARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Soo.. I thought this will be cute MFM or MF romance book, but when I started I couldn’t get into it.

Zoey is drama girl, every time. People should read her minds so she wouldn’t be upset. There is also too much “drama” scenes, in conversation and such.

Yeah, this is more action than romance, but.. okay. This wasn’t for me.

If you want action and drama drama, this is for you.

Thank you so much to Netgalley and the author for sending me an ARC for a honest review.

This was a first time read for me by this author, but it won't be my last. It's a very enjoyable read that caught my attention from the start and kept my interest till the end. Although this is the second book of the series, I was still able to read and follow perfectly fine as a standalone. What made the story stand out was the bit of thriller factor thrown in with the romance, which I wasn't expecting. Zoey's love life is a bit complicated, having to decide between two men, both of which are her friends. Adding to her dilemma, she then has to deal with a stalker, bringing in the thriller piece.
The characters were interesting and well-developed. The story was well-written and entertaining, and the plot twist definitely had me on the edge of my seat and after finishing this I found myself wanting to go back and read the previous book. A very enjoyable read and I look forward to reading more by this author.
I received a complimentary copy from Netgalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.

This book was a great follow up to Thinly Veiled. It has a good balance of romance to suspense. I was very interested in finding out what was going to happen next. I gave this book 4 out of 5 stars. The only thing that would have made this a 5 star read for me personally would be if there was more of a conclusion to the way things ended. It felt a little unresolved.

I received this book as an ARC from Bookbuzz through NetGalley and this review is based on my own opinion.

Zoey has a complicated love life, she doesn't date and ideally dumps a guy after a one time thing.
When James asks her out on a date, she finds herself enjoying him more than she would think.
But after a night at the bar Zoey and her best friend Liam end up in his appartment drunk, and Liam tries to kiss her.
Now she is torn between the two men.

Trigger warnings: stalking, attempted sexual assault, mention of childhood abuse
The book is second in a series but can be read as a standalone.
I only had a little struggle with the characters in the first few chapters.

When I requested the book I thought it would be a romance but when I started reading it after a couple of romance chapters it turned into a sort of romance/thriller based on someone stalking the lead person. Which was also fine to read for me but it wasn't what I expected.

The story was okay for me but nothing special so that's why I gave it 3 stars.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of "Veiled in Brick". All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Let's start with a brief summary. Zoey finds some flowers outside of her apartment and assumes they are from the guy that she slept with. Zoey is not a flowers girl. One set of flowers leads to another, and more gifts/notes keep coming. Turns out that Zoey has a stalker who also tried to take her. Through all these events, she realizes that she has feeling for her best friend Liam. Liam, Zoey, and their 2 other friends end up at Zoey's parent's to get away from the stalker. But guess who makes an appearance. They find a hidden camera and learn that the stalker has been living in the same apartment building. The group develops a plan of how to try and catch him. They end up doing more than that. The stalker ends up in a river.
I did enjoy the book. I honestly thought for a few chapters that James was the stalker. I really enjoyed that friendships that we saw in this as well. I liked that Zoey and Liam's relationship was not rushed and helped to lead the story.

If your expecting a fun rom com with this book you came to the wrong place. This book deals with some heavy issues. I like this book okay but it isn't for me.

This was an interesting read. It's definitely way more of a thriller than a romance. Also I have no idea why both guys are on the cover when it's clear from like chapter 4 who she is ending up with. I just wanted more of the romance and less of the mystery.

I received an arc through netgalley.

Overall really liked this one! I also read the first in the series Thinly Veiled and in my opinion this series keeps getting better! I felt that the plot and pacing was well done. Also this really goes in on the suspense aspect in a way I don’t always see with other romance suspense in that it wasn’t overly ridiculous, scenes were described/written in a clear and dynamic way, and I felt the background tension hanging over everyone the whole time.

For romance readers who are curious about the 2 people on the cover and what that means- this is a love triangle. There really isn’t any other man drama with overlap but there are on page spicy scenes with the the other guy just fyi. I actually enjoyed this triangle and how it pushed on the friends to lovers boundaries for Zoey. She’s an amazing main character and after meeting her in Thinly Veiled I knew she would make this next addition in the series great!

What keeps this from 5 stars for me were mostly the ensemble scenes as they got a bit long and dialogue heavy, telling vs showing. But overall the spice is plentiful and wonderful and I enjoyed this! Thank you to NetGalley and Eliza Modiste for this ARC!
