Well! this was certainly a page turner with some relatable characters facing very human and often contemporary issues (and less common things like murder!) often with a dash of black humour.
Whilst I did find some of the plot twists a bit too contrived and complicated, overall I thought it was a very good read
Thank you to netgalley and HQ for an advance copy of this book.

I have heard good things about Kathy Brent’s previous novel How to get away with murder. That I must confess I am yet to read. I was intrigued by this novel.
Molly Monroe wakes up with a severe hangover after a Christmas works party and finds a handsome stranger in her bed. She I still fully clothed and the stranger says that she was wondering all around Vauxhall and he wanted to get her home safely.
When she gets into work, she works for as a journalist for a pre-teen magazine. As it is too obvious to take a sickie. She is called in by her boss, who tells her she is in trouble and shows her a video of her drunk and in a sexual position. She is horrified and is set on disgracefully.
When she gets home, she contacts her friend Posey who is an investigative journalist to tell her about her day but when she tries to ring her at work. Someone else picks up her phone at work and said she didn’t come in today. That’s odd Molly thinks as she heard her go out this morning. So, she knocks on her door to see if she is in. When she goes into her room, she finds her life long best friend dead in the bath.
The Police arrive and claim it is an accidental death. But Molly knows that Posey was happy not suicidal. There is something not quite right about this.
Thank you, HQ, for a copy of ‘The murder after the night before’. This is highly entertaining read. At first thought I was feeling a bit confused as I thought this was going to be a comedy, strange due to the title. But as we learned the fate of Posey it took a different turn. But both sides of the story fitted perfectly. This is a gripping thriller and also relatable to sadly what happens on Social media. 5 stars from me.

"The Murder After the Night Before" is a gripping and enthralling tale that captured my attention right from the start. The story revolves around our protagonist, Molly, whose life takes a sudden twist as she wakes up to the aftermath of a wild and unforgettable night with no memory of its events. However, an excruciating hangover and a stranger by her side foreshadow that this day will not be pleasant for Molly. As the plot unfolds, Molly discovers a viral video circulating online, revealing her outrageous antics from the previous night. This unexpected revelation only adds to her woes. But there's more to come – she soon learns the devastating news of her best friend Posey's untimely demise, which the police believe to be an accident. However, fuelled by her unwavering conviction, Molly refuses to accept the accident theory and becomes determined to uncover the truth behind Posey's death. The path she embarks on is fraught with danger and uncertainty, but she is resolute in her pursuit of justice.
The book stands out because it cleverly blends different genres, giving it a unique flavour. It incorporates elements of murder mystery, psychological thriller, rom-com, comedy, and social commentary, which may seem like an unconventional mix, but Katy Brent has managed to make it work. The writer has struck a perfect balance between heavy drama and light-hearted moments of humour, which provides a refreshing break from the tension.
The story's main characters are highly relatable and possess realistic qualities, including well-crafted backstories and imperfect yet charming personalities. Moreover, the supporting characters are thoughtfully written with distinctive quirks and motivations that add depth to the narrative. The story's character development is exceptional, creating an immersive reading experience that captivates its audience.
The story is highly captivating, with numerous unforeseen events and revelations that maintain the reader's interest throughout. Even though some twists and turns are hinted at, most come as a complete shock, keeping the reader on edge and always anticipating what will come next. Katy Brent has exceptionally crafted a narrative that keeps the reader engrossed, making it challenging to stop reading the book.
"The Murder After the Night Before" is a book that I find pretty intriguing. It's a murder mystery that keeps the reader engaged throughout, but what sets it apart is the underlying themes it explores. The book delves into some of the most significant social issues of our time, including online shaming, consent, and the impact of viral videos on one's life. I found the commentary on the complexities of modern society thought-provoking and insightful, adding depth and nuance to the story. Overall, I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in exploring the darker side of our interconnected world.
If you're into books that give you goosebumps, I highly recommend "The Murder After the Night Before" by Katy Brent. Her writing is so engaging that it keeps readers hooked and at the edge of their seats from start to finish. Brent's exceptional talent for creating an unpredictably exciting storyline with many twists and turns is genuinely remarkable. I eagerly anticipate her next release and can't wait to discover what other surprises she has in store for us readers.

Katy Brent has this unbelievable talent for creating characters and plotlines that you're just not going to forget. This book had me on the edge of my seat throughout and I devoured this story in one sitting.

The book is fast paced and absolutely jam packed with twists and turns. Despite being loaded with some heavy themes there was some humour and major eye roll moments thrown in too.

I loved Molly but I have to admit at times I was telling her out loud to give her head a good ole wobble lol! All the characters were well developed throughout and it soon became obvious which ones we're meant to love and which ones we're not meant to like so much.

A very relatable, story that touches on real life issues including social media if you enjoy a fast paced mystery to solve then this ones for you.

I really enjoyed this authors first book but this one just wasn't for me. Struggled to get into it, which made it hard for me to become invested in the story or care much about the characters.

I knew I was going to enjoy this book but I didn't expect to binge-it-in-one-day enjoy it! Oh my goodness, I fell in love will Molly. I just wanted to give her a cuddle. I felt like I was on her investigation right along side her.
Ooh I also wanted to rattle her sometimes and tell her to not give up. But I was rooting for her all along. There were characters in this book that you're supposed to hate, ones you love (Molly and Posey) and ones who you're not quite sure about.
I didn't know where this book was going and it kept me so gripped I couldn't put it down. And then end! Didn't see it coming.
A brilliant thriller with real life issues woven in as well as a bit of humour.
Loved it.

What a great murder mystery! The twists kept coming and while I guessed some, others had me bulge-eyed and saying what!?? This was not a comedy like her first book which at first had me sad because I was hoping for a laugh, but I quickly didn’t mind in the least as the mystery began to unfold. With equally lovable and hate-able characters the story drags you in and keeps you up reading way too late because you just have to know what’s going to happen next. A wonder of a who done it?!

A huge thank you to Katy Brent and her publisher Harper Collins for the ARC!

What a book!when molly discovers a video after her Christmas party she must face her drinking problem whilst trying to remember what happened that night. It's more important than ever due to the fact the one person who could help her is found dead. Molly must find the truth behind her friends death the police believe it was an accident, but as a fellow journalist she knows the truth isn't always on the surface. What she uncovers is shocking it will leave your head full of questions assuming the worst of certain characters and rallying for others. The pace and tone were amazing , the plot amazing the conclusion and epilogue were just right tieing up all the loose ends we didn't think would be answered . I can't wait to read this authors other books

Molly is a bit of a mess already, but when she wakes up the morning after getting blackout drunk to find herself publicly humiliated and her best friend dead, it seems that things can always get worse.

Having read the author's last book, I was expecting this one to be slightly satirical, but actually I found myself surprisingly sad whilst reading it. There are some real comments in it about the state of our society, particularly in relation to women, and some parts were difficult to read. Overall it was a good book, and I'm still thinking about it days later.

I received a copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review

Molly Monroe wakes up after her work party in bed with a strange man, and has no idea what happened. Unfortunately, she is about to find out. Eventually she also finds her flatmate and best friend Posey dead in the bath. Molly doesn't believe that it was an accident and carries out her own investigation, although she has no idea who she can trust. She's a funny and determined character. Lovely book. Recommended.

I've finished reading The Murder After The Night Before by @but_katy_did_it and I rate it 5⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Molly Monroe wakes up after a night of drinking at her work party but what was meant to be a night of fun and laughter turns into a living nightmare and the days that follow will be a twisted web of lies and murder but with Molly on the hunt for the truth will she be the a victim or the victor?

Oh how I absolutely loved this book, it was just brilliant from start to finish, I thought the story was very believable and you can imagine happening, it was very well written and plotted with plenty of twists and turns it really keeps the reader guessing to the very end.

I honestly couldn't put it down I just wanted to know what happens next I wanted to know who did it and why I was enjoying how it all came together. I absolutely loved the ending I thought it was the perfect fit for both the story and the characters. I really enjoy Katy Brent's writing and the way she tells story's I'm looking forward to the next one.

also hear me out, in my mind I kind think Molly Monroe and Kitty Collins from the author's previous book How To Kill Men And Get Away With It, could be friends in fact Kitty Collins could help Molly Monroe on a certain problem 😉

Molly's world is turned upside down in 24hrs when a drunken work night out turns into a social media fiasco that leaves her reputation in tatters. And the icing on the cake, her friend is dead and no-one believes it wasn't an accident. Molly is determined to find out the truth, no matter the cost.

Oh my word Katy, you did it again. What a whirlwind story, it gripped me from the start and didn't let go. I was initially mortified for Molly and as I continued to read I got angrier, and angrier. The misogynistic treatment she got from every angle left me fuming! Katy has the ability to draw you into very real characters, allowing them to be relatable without being saccharine.

Molly wakes up with a stranger in her bed, worse that that, she is trending on social media as she has been filmed in a sex act. She remembers nothing and things go from bad to worse when she discovers her best friend.... a darkly humorous book in the style of Dawn O'Porter, we follow Molly on her quest to find the truth about what happened to Posey and who she can trust. Refreshing and funny yet poignant.

I previously read this authors work and loved it so much and I was looking forward to reading this so much. I was so excited to start this and was immediately hooked and couldn't put this down. I loved the fun, witty humour that meshed well with the darker parts of the story (which I don't want to spoil but there is some sensitive topics). Although I did guess some of the twists I still loved reading this and I highly recommend.

I’ve read Katy Brent’s debut, How To Kill Men And Get Away With It, and absolutely loved it. So when I got the opportunity to read an ARC of her next book I was so excited!
I read this book in just 2 days. It kept me hooked with its witty yet gripping plot. Humour is well balanced with the darker, emotional side of the story, still fitting in more sensitive topics such as SA and suicide.
I had my suspicions of a lot of the characters and liked how it concluded.
I definitely recommend taking a look at these 2 books if you haven’t already!

The story is told by Molly Monroe who wakes up after her Christmas party to find she has gone viral on the internet and her best friend Posey dead.
I thought the book started off great but I found the murder plot weak and the ending was very obvious. Slightly disappointed as so many others loved it - but for me it was just an ok read.
With thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this arc in exchange for an honest review.

This is my second book by Katy Brent and enjoyed this as much as her first. She can write thrillers so expertly. I didn't guess the twists at all but I couldn't stop reading!

When I started this book I’d forgotten that I’d already loved a book by this author so I thought it was going to be just another book about a washed up thirty something who drank too much and got into horrendous scrapes. But then the real story kicked in and I was absolutely hooked. Not your usual murder mystery that ends up tied in a neat little bow. Witty,, dark writing that I absolutely love. Fabulous.

I thought this book was going to be a very lighthearted read, it quickly took a turn. When the heroine of the story awakes, she finds herself at home in bed with a stranger after a drunken works do. She goes to work only to find she has gone viral after a video of her performing a sex act is posted online. Just when she thinks things cannot get worse she discovers her best friend is missing.
This book was a real page turner and though the subject was quite deep, it was well written. Would read this author again.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
