Where was this book when I was in middle school?? I'd have loved it just as much, if not more, as I did reading it now as an adult. This really is the perfect blend between horses and adventure. The only thing that drags down the rating for me is the writing. The story is solid, but the writing is sometimes disjointed and looks like it's in the middle of editing with sections being moved around. I hope that this was fixed before publishing as I read an ARC.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for letting me read and review this ARC.

The premise sounded great. As an equestrienne and traveller myself, I was excited about discovering this book, and enjoyed the foreword from the author.
As a young adult, I still enjoy reading middle-grade books occasionally. Unfortunately, I feel like this book used its middle-grade audience as an excuse for poor writing. In the same paragraph, present could be used in stead of the past tense, before switching back to past again. It was confusing to read.
I also found the way the characters behaved very unrealistic and stereotypical. Consequently, I decided to read no further.
This should have been a really fun read for me. I love horse books and good ones are not easy to find.
The part about the horses was good. The girls were fun and easy to like. The overall story was good. So all I can figure out is that the writing style was not for me. It was hard to read because of the issues on Kindle with the book I got on NetGalley. The spacing and many hyphens were in the wrong place. The chapters did not start on a new page like in most books.
I think some illustrations of the horses and girls on their adventure would have been fun.
I really wanted to love this book! It could have been a great gift!
starting this blog off right by being a massive hater.
DNFed this one a little under halfway through because it's just plain badly written. and not bad as in "written for a younger audience" because I read plenty of that in the equestrian genre. bad as in "switches from past to present tense and back again within one paragraph" bad.
the plot and character motivations were dubious, it had the cardinal sin (for me) of telling us a character was doing something while the description showed the opposite, and one horse was referred to as a "greenie-baby" on multiple occasions and I tasted a little bile in my mouth every time.
skip this one.
Around the World on 180 Horses was a middle grade treasure hunt adventure book reminiscint of the adventures of Indiana Jones with the added benefit of horses!
Archaeologist and horse endurance rider, Sally, decides to go on the hunt for Vlad the Impaler aka the real life Dracula's missing treasure. She travels to Romania and meets Rachel, a journalist and horse event rider. They bring in Alina, a polo pkayer froma wealthy family in Azerbaijan. Together they journey through the country of Romania on horseback trying to piece together the resting place of Dracula's treasure.
This story took me back to my teenage days as a horse crazy young girl. My favorite books to read at that age included anything about horses. The best books included stories of horses, friendship, and were character driven stories. This story had all that and a treasure hunt. The characters quickly joined together and became friends on their treasure hunt. The book held the different points of views of all of the characters. All of the characters grew attached to their horses as well so there was the nice bond between horse and rider.
Overall, an enjoyable read.
