The illustration was very good.
But the story was not. It is good to borrow a fairytale from the region, and it is also a nice idea to borrow some science interests, But in this version, it was confusing as the writer didn't know where he should stop talking about the fairytale or the science. In the middle of the science, you find the fairytale and vice versa.
There was also one page which does not belong to the book at all! It had no connection with what was before or what was after!

I give it only two stars because of the illustration only.

As the plague rages through England, Hayden Springworth is busy trying to find hidden treasure at the end of a rainbow. This is the story of an inquisitive, eccentric boy with a heart of gold boy who delves into Newtonian studies and explores his theories on how rainbows work.

This lovely exploration into the scientific method is portrayed with a fantastic color palette and immersive art, with a mix of English folklore. I went into this pretty much blind and as someone who has quite a background in the field of science, this was such a lovely surprise. I loved the underlying theme of love, and different kinds of love as well - from the love of life and his enjoyment for his studies, to parental love, the love of a mentor and friend, and in the end finding romantic love with someone who brings together all the things he loved about his life.

This short and whimsical graphic novel follows the story of a young man who is fascinated by rainbows. As a child, he fears them until his father gives him a secret bit of wisdom. He then befriends Isaac Newton who helps him explore science, and later is sent to serve as a spy in France for England. There he continues to explore science, chase rainbows, and form new experiences. We see how these experiences shape his personality and relationships with the people around him, including a young woman with a strange power.

I truly enjoyed reading this sweet story. The art was vibrant and beautiful. It was very fitting for the rainbow theme. Even the chapters are named and themed after colors. This graphic novel is perfect to pick up when you want something quick that will make you smile.

I'm not even quite sure where to start with this one. Some people tell you not to judge a book by the cover, but I think it's not always such a bad idea. First of all: covers are made to be seen and I'm sure there are reasons for them looking the way they do. Second: this is a graphic novel, which is mostly about the artwork. Judging it by its cover seems like the right thing.

Before reading this, I had no idea what it would be about. I don't usually read summaries before reading something I'm unfamiliar with. As long as the genres are something I might be into, I'm willing to see what's going on. And I am so very glad that I did.

This graphic novel is short, so the story is not very elaborate. However, it is absolutely beautiful and made me smile. It took me three 'chapters' to realize what was happening between chapters and I love it. IYKYK. This novel follows Hayden who is obsessed with rainbows from England to France (as a spy), where he continues his research into rainbows that he started with Isaac Newton. Honestly, I cannot say too much about the story without spoilers, but I really liked it.

I had mixed feelings about this - on the one hand, it was beautifully drawn, with a very sweet structure of having chapters named after colours in a rainbow, and that reflecting in the inking of the artwork. It also had some historical characters, which I do like in a graphic novel - Bloodlust and Bonnets was a good example of this! But it also didn’t really come together as a cohesive plot for me. It felt too disjointed and like there were too many loose ends for me to feel fully satisfied with the plot. The first five chapters are essentially pointless, as the real story only arises in the final third of the book. A mixed bag overall, I did enjoy this, but something was missing for me, so it was a good, rather than great, experience.

This was a very quick but very enjoyable read. I adore the art style and that the colours of each chapter change as you progress through the book - I thought that was a perfect touch. It was nice to see the historical aspects of the book had been researched. I would have loved more of everything honestly, I want to know more about the journey to France and the later coach ride across said country. I really enjoyed the multilingual aspect to the book too and the translations provided were very useful. I cannot wait to see what this author and artist combination make together and I will certainly be looking out for more. I hope there's much much more to come!

The graphics were BEAUTIFUL and I enjoyed how the sections changed with each color of the rainbow. The plot of the story seemed a bit all over the place and I'm not quite sure who the intended audience is. I would definitely say it's more of an adult graphic novel (as there is some nudity involved, but only a small amount).

I wanted to read this graphic novel because I love rainbows and the cover was really attracting. I discovered a really interesting story around the discover and the understanding of rainbows. It was beautiful tells through a love story between a scientist and a rainmaker. The different chapters that represent each a color of the rainbow was a brillant idea!

A lovely story of science and magic with some of the most gorgeous artwork and innovative use of color I've ever seen. Hayden, the main character, goes through a journey of self-discovery, as he gives up his beliefs and comfortable life when faced with new acquaintances and a dangerous mission far from home. A short and satisfying story.

This was a cute little graphic novel focused on rainbows and their secrets. It's quite nicely drawn, with each chapter representing a color from, you guessed it, a rainbow!

The story was a bit confusing at first, but it came together quite well with a pretty satisfying ending.

Beautifully illustrated graphic novel about science and myths. Without making one the right thing and the other the wrong thing, this novel combines both and gives science a magic touch.
Loved it and wished the novel would have been longer, so I could read more.

The Rainbow Catcher is a short and sweet story packed with a little science, a little magic, and a lot of love of all kinds. A young man obsessed with rainbows learns that sometimes magical phenomena have scientific explanations and other times magic is as real as it seems. In either case, the world is full of wonders and it is best when you have people to share it with. The color schemes of each chapter follow those found in the rainbow and are expertly used to convey the changes in mood as the story progresses. This is a great story to read on a rainy afternoon while you wait for the rainbows to come out again.

I really enjoyed the story, but what I think I loved most was the art style. The colors were so vivid and beautiful, and I found it really engaging. The characters were expressive and lively. I had a great time reading this story.

Although once afraid of leprechauns, Hayden discovers a force more powerful and dedicates his life to understanding rainbows. He's aided by a man who can transform sunbeams into spectra of color, Isaac Newton himself. But Hayden can't escape his responsibilities to the king and is drawn into a plot that takes him across the sea and into a provincial town full of superstitions. There, he meets a girl who is supposed to be a sorceress, but Hayden realizes that a girl who can summon the rain will aid him in his efforts to learn how rainbows work if only he can get out of his duties and convince the townsfolk not to murder her.

The second half of this book was much more engaging than the first part, but exposition is that way, isn't it? I enjoyed the way each chapter took on a colorful tone reflective not only of the mood but also of the rainbow. The art was a bit crude at times, and there's some nudity, so sensitive parents should proceed with caution. I loved the ending, though, and I'd love to see more by this writing/illustrating team.

The artwork in this comic had me in awe, it was so magical. I loved how each chapter of the book has a different colour of the rainbow & then was featured in the art. It made for a really eye-catching & interesting read. The story was also entertaining, I loved that it centred around rainbows & their story. The setting of the book, set in old England, was also something I hadn't seen in any of the graphic novels I've read before & found new & interesting. Overall I was just fascinated with the artwork, beautiful work!

This is a lovely graphic story of a young boy's coming of age adventure. Each chapter is themed for each colour of the rainbow and the images are tinted to match. This was my favourite detail about the book, such an effective idea.

This book was so good, I loved everything about it, the illustrations were so well done, they suited the book perfectly, the story was amazing as well, even thought is very short I could really connect with the characters. I’m sure the kids are going to be just as enthralled with this amazing book as I was. I will definitely recommend! Thank you netgalley and the publisher for this early copy

I really liked the colours and the story when it focused on rainbows and science. I especially liked that each portion of the story was tinted to the colour of the rainbow in that section. The other bits were entertaining as well.

This was such an interesting but cute little comic, I originally wasn’t a fan of the illustrations but as it went on I began to love them and how they were themed by the colours of the rainbow.
