Not really for me but I can see others enjoying it just for the storyline alone. Beautifully illustrated and a good story I also loved the lord that the author added
There’s nothing I love more than a cozy read & rainbows. This gave me both of those. Love how each chapter is titled after a color of the rainbow. This whimsical graphic novels pairs well with a morning cup of tea. Very easy read with beautiful artwork.
trigger warning
<spoiler> xenophobia, misogyny, mention of war themes, plague </spoiler>
A young lord's worldview is radically changed when he becomes the assisstant to Isaac Newton - and when he has to walk in his father's footsteps, he finds a way to continue his studies.
This graphic novel has chapters, each titled like one of the colours of the rainbow and this colour is domineering in the art style which is simply beautiful. While sharing the same style overall, every part gets a different mood depending on which colour was chosen.
I liked both the art style and the plot. I was a bit confused because for a long time it looked to be just historical fiction, but then fantasy elements crept in - not that I am complaining about that, I just had to change my expectations for the rest of the story.
Would recommend and read more by the artists.
The arc was provided by the publisher.
This was such a fun quick story to read, and the artwork is absolutely beautiful! It was so creative how they used six different color themes for each chapter. I really enjoyed the message at the end of the story. If you’re in need of a quick, cozy, and fluffy read then this is the story for you!
This is a cozy story about rainbows 🌈
A boy has always been fascinated with rainbows and one day he meets Isaac Newton, who explains to him a little bit about how it is formed. From this point, he becomes invested in science and wants to find out all the mysteries.
The colors in this are amazing!! Such a nice and cozy story that can be enjoyed in one sitting 🤍
I loved this book.
The book is based on science and has a side of magical realism, which really reflects the rainbow, which is simply wonderful.
Furthermore, the book is beautifully structured and thought out, each chapter set in a rainbow color. I think the whole story and visual aesthetic is tied together and I think that reflects in the quality of the book.
The main character is fun and does everything to pursue his passion, and shows his strength when he finds himself cornered, and decides to take advantage of the situation.
A tremendously charming book.
Thank you, NetGalley, for this arc.
The Rainbow Catcher is a beautiful graphic novel sharing the science of rainbows, with a touch of magical realism. I loved the scientific elements with Isaac Newton, and it was expressed easily throughout the story, alongside the main character searching for his purpose.
Each chapter’s color scheme is a different color of the rainbow, which is an amazing artistic choice! It made the graphic novel flow quicker, and it was fun to see the different panels’ colors.
I loved this story, but I gave it 4 stars because the ending seemed a little rushed. The resolution of a story is extremely important to me, and this one didn’t hit the mark. It was still a nice one, and it made me tear up.
so cute! its so whimsical!
I loved the art style a lot. I really loved how every chapter the dominant colour was a different colour of the rainbow! Such a great detail.
I always chased rainbows as a kid so this would have been something I would have adored growing up! I loved all the Shakespeare references throughout the book too.
quick, adorable and overall a wholesome little read!
This graphic novel's imagery was beautiful. I particularly like how the story was split up into sections based on the colours of the rainbow and how all the art matched the theme and hue of the section. It was an interesting story intertwining science and magic/myth with a good message at the end. I'm not sure exactly which age group this fits in though, as there were some more adult themes but it was written for a younger person to be able to understand.
I wanted to live this but I just didn’t. The graphics were beautiful and I loved how the chapters were all names after and had the colour scheme of the rainbow but I had issues with the plot. There was too much going on while at the same time being too surface level. Nothing was well explored or resolved. And who is the intended audience? I couldn’t figure out if this was for teens or middle grade.
This beautifully drawn graphic novel follows the young Lord Hayden Springward in his attempt to figure out what rainbows are made of. It is fast-paced and quick to read. I didn't really know what the graphic novel was about, I simply wanted to read it because of the wonderful cover. And the art inside did not disappoint. I especially adored the way the story is divided into segments following the seven colours in a rainbow (violet, indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange, red + an epilogue). It's such a neat and creative way to incorporate the theme on a meta-level. The story itself was cute and made me chuckle. It stays quite surface-level but it makes sense considering the length of the graphic novel.
I had a great time reading this!
I absolutely adore this graphic novel. I loved the story, I loved the various redirects of romance (Newton, and then the Admiral), I loved the idea behind it, the history, the fantasy, and the attention to language (I am a Francophone African Literature Lover, so French Languages, of all kinds, matter to me).
I highly recommend this title. It’s the most beautiful mix of mythology, history, fantasy, and science.
The artwork is gorgeous.
<blockquote>Leprechauns are vile little creatures capable of all manner of despicable acts, when it comes to defending their property, or coveting that of others.
They adorn themselves with the gleaming colors of the rainbow to lure fools, but it is simply a deception designed to doom them to a life of disappointment.</blockquote>
I have gotten a copy of This Graphic Novel ARC, which is read now on Netgalley for those interested to give it a chance, Thanks Cedric, Ricci, Europe comics for the opportunity.
This will come out August 30, 2023, So in seven days, Tune in for a journey in love of science, How it opens our eyes to the world, and helps us understand it more, The curiosity inside scientists to explore the unknown, not always sure there will be results on the other side, but they don't stop trying, they don't stop thinking and honing their minds to eventually reach the truth, Tune in for an amazing colorful journey of art.
I'm probably gonna get the other three or so Graphic Novels Europe comics put out, and read them at my leisure for the next 30 days or so, Because their stuff is always great, and because it's read now, we get complacent sometimes and don't ask for them, because we have other ARCs waiting.
Isaac Newton was here, it was really fun to see him in a Graphic novel, But the entire thing was reality our world, troubles of the past, echoes of our present and future.
We are In England, and England is fighting everyone it's crazy lol
Belgium France Spain i am sure there was a fourth front i forgot.
The art is one of the most unique and most beautiful i have seen all year, It's cartoonish, but in all the right ways, so much effort went into this, so much care for details, Busy Panels in a good way, Developing characters, that advance in age, and still look themselves, a sense of Happiness the protagonist mind set had throughout, and the art made it visible, and heartwarming.
even the side characters had all the expressions you would expect them to have.
I am really trying to not spoil anything here, so forgive me if i am not explaining in more detail.
(I am totally dancing now to a Japanese song i like, and drinking something and not writing at all lol)
The colors, That was just heavenly if there was ever such a thing as heaven, 6 different color pallets or was it more? for each chapter, Indigo, Red, Blue, Yellow, Green, Violet are the ones i remember .
It just made each new chapter feel like an entirely new visual experience of beauty.
This surely was one of the rare cases that the art was actually ways better than the writing, But guess what? the writing wasn't even bad, it was a really nice story, i found myself invested in it, and reading even though i was completely descending into a reading slump, Slowly me and the rainbow catcher worked together to help me out of that hole, that i didn't want to be in.
<blockquote>This young woman is a veritable wonder of nature, and you treat her like a monster.</blockquote>
The protagonist is an eccentric son of a noble, entirely a not so likely hero, but he had a good heart, and amazing heart, and an open mind for science, both of which eventually help him, help our second protagonist the rain maker, a girl who for some reason always has a cloud raining wherever she goes, everyone is treating her as a witch, but the protagonist who is intrigued by her mystery and potential!
Great Story Fabulous Art, i had an amazing time reading this.
This graphic novel was super cute! I loved how it blended science with whimsey in a fun and engaging way. It definitely took me about half the novel to start putting the pieces together, but it was a fun read!
Amazing artwork! Each chapter is named after a colour of the rainbow and the panels are tinged in this colour.
Hayden loves sciences, especially the science that's behind rainbows. There's a chance meeting with Isaac Newton, and a bit of magical realism.
I really enjoyed the illustrations of the book I found them really pretty. I also enjoyed how each chapter is a different colour that would make the rainbow. I did feel like the start of the book was a bit rushed I would prefer to have some more background information on the main character. Other than that I really enjoyed this book and the underlying message
A beautifully illustrated French graphic novel about a British noble that is also an aspiring scientist.
I loved how each chapter was themed around a different color! However, the plot is a little lacking - it’s very quickly paced and there’s a lot of stuff happening in a short time. It was all necessary for the progression of the story, but I think this book would have benefitted from some extra pages that established the characters more.
Additionally, I liked that some of the dialogue was untranslated to indicate the different languages being used across the story!
While this book did have some downfalls with its pacing, I enjoyed it and I appreciate how unique it was! I’m looking forward for more books from the authors and artists!
Thank you to NetGalley, the authors and publisher for a copy of this eARC in exchange for a review.
I loved this graphic novels! The art style was so cute and the colours throughout it was amazing and the story line was great! I would recommend if you want a short but sweet read! 🌈
Thanks to Europe Comics and NetGalley for the ARC!
The Rainbow Catcher is a graphic novel where 17th century science meets 17th century folk magic following the story of a young lord as he takes his father's place in espionage and finds himself saving a maiden of magical circumstances.
The artist uses such lush colors with beautiful applications of color theory utilized in an antiquated illustration style of the setting of the comic, and it seems to be traditionally colored or the digital brushes used are good mimics.
I loved that the graphic novel follows the rainbow color scheme for dividing its chapters and how each color set the mood and atmosphere for the chapter.
It is really a fine, beautiful work of art.
FINISHED: I enjoyed this. Loved the thematic approach to the colours and the interspersed science too! Definitely not one for kids, but enjoyable nonetheless! Featuring Isaac Newton and a whole host of science about rainbows and prisms - what a lovely thing to learn about!
