Thanks to NetGalley for the e-ARC!
This is a perfect journal/activity book for any middle school child you know, the book is geared more towards girls but anyone should be able to appreciate it. There are different prompts to help the reader to work through their understanding of confidence and how to be a more confident person. In addition, there are short stories about Rebel Girls showcasing their confidence and quizzes that help you see what type of person you currently are.
The illustrations within this journal are amazing and I hope Rebel Girls continues to use the illustrator. The artwork enhanced the journal a billion times and made me smile.
This is a great tool for kids to learn and grow. Sometimes parents don’t know where to start or what tools to give their kids to help them succeed and this is one tool that can help. There are resources, exercises, and ideas to help kids get started from simple ideas to more complex problems. This journal is all about self-empowerment while teaching kids to utilize the resources around them. Totally recommend.
This book gives the message of having confidence, taking action, changing the way you think, making a support system and planning to change the world. I think it is a great journal for young girls.
One of the things I like most about this book is that you're often given the option to either write your reflections/responses or draw it out, which is great for young people who struggle with writing. I also love that it encourages the young person to reach out to those around them and start meaningful conversations/build connections., and think about their role models. It doesn't focus solely on self-confidence as many 'be positive' type self-help books do, but also on self-compassion, self-understanding and self-care. Would recommend this book!
Thank you to @netgalley and the publisher for this free eARC
I would have loved it if I had it in paper format for my daughters
This is an amazing journal that teaches litlle (and not so little) girls about many important life questions, issues and situations.
Another excellent one by Rebel girls!!
The Growing Up Powerful Journal created by RebelGirls is a whimsically illustrated journal/guide geared towards pre-teen girls and it is filled with inspirational journal prompts, anecdotes and scenarios, multiple choice quizzes and coloring pages intended to help young girls build confidence in themselves and approach the world in a joyful way.
There is even extra content available by scanning QR codes scattered throughout the book.
4/5 stars
Growing Up Powerful Journal is an excellent resource for young people to 1. get into journaling and 2. boost their confidence and mood through colorful and engaging materials.
I really liked the book Growing Up Powerful which I had wished to have had as a teenage girl. This journal helps girls further with boosting their confidence, as the title says. The book is divided in parts that deal with the question What is Confidence?, what to do to achieve it, how to build a team and how to change the world. There are lists with questions to answer for oneself, personality tests, short biographies of Rebel Girls (or rather women). Girls can also get creative and learn more with links in the book. I liked this journal and could well imagine it for myself - already very grown-up - except perhaps for the tests. There are again the nice illustrations known from the other Rebel Girls books. Highly recommended, not only for (pre-) teenage girls but also for grown ups who want to grow further.
Thanks to Rebel Girls and Netgalley for an ARC ebook in exchange for an honest review.
I remember when I was growing up that I would always write in my diary or journal. This is a fantastic way to get young readers to work through a journal with prompts and fantastic lessons. I appreciated that it is such a great combination of stories, articles, prompts, coloring and more! I have always been a big fan of the Rebel Girls series, so to see this I will be absolutely ordering it for my daughter as soon as its released! Thank you to DK (Penguin Publishing), NetGalley, and Rebel Girls for the opportunity to read the ARC - this is out October 10th! You guys absolutely need to get it for your littles!
This journal serves as a terrific companion the the Rebel Girls book titled Growing Up Powerful. The cover describes it as a confidence boosting, totally inspiring and joyful journal. That makes me want to purchase it for every young girl I know.
Following the introduction, there are sections called What is Confidence?, Take Action, Train Your Brain, Build Your Team, and finally, Change the World. Inside, the pages are colorful pages with helpful text and a series of prompts.
The first section, for example, starts with an explanation of the topic and ideas about how to be more confident. Prompts for the journal writing include listing things that already make a person feel confident, thinking about when a confident feeling first was noticed, writing things a girl might do to feel more confident and so on. Another section asks the reader to pick which scenario best demonstrates confidence. The additional prompts are ones that I think are quite helpful. The rest of the book is equally so.
I wish that I’d had this journal when I was younger. I recommend it highly.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Rebel Girls for this title. All opinions are my own.
This is the kind of book I'd love to have for my kids or students 😭🫶🏽
It covered issues about confidence, calm, and how to empower yourself. Go for your passion, be positive.
I LOVE LOVE THE ACTIVITIES PROVIDED. It's vary, intriguing, and FUN!!!
It teaches girls to be honest. It helps them map their feelings. It asks them to learn a lot (but in a fun way!!!)
Highly recommended 👌
Rebel Girls, hey, what are you doing? Are you on some mission or something? Are you really doing everything you can to make the world a better place for girls? Are you really doing everything you can to make lives better for girls out there?
Yeah, I know. That is exactly what they are doing. Weird, I know. In the world of patriarchy, there are Rebel Girls.
Every new book of theirs I see makes me wonder what they will do next. Because to me, every book they create is just WOW.
I myself am such a fan of journaling. It’s life, seriously. I’m also trying to get my daughter into this habit, but she has yet to discover the joys and benefits of it. I also believe that *most* kids out there need some sort of encouragement or some kind of push to start doing it. Not just kids, most adults also have no idea where to start if they haven’t been doing it before. And then, enter journaling prompts.
And enter this journal by Rebel Girls. A prompt, a beautiful page to write, some relevant read, some beautiful image. Perfect. Another perfect thing coming from Rebel Girls.
I know I sound like I’m in a full-blown fan-girl mode over here, but this deserves it. It deserves all the hype it can get.
This would be an outstanding ternal for any middle, Schooler, and I am going to be recommending it to my students. In fact, I can see using some of these prompts and pages in my classes to help my kids, learn and grow.
In fact, this would actually be a great journal for anybody, not just middle grade kids. There were lots of things I wanted to write about as well, even though I’m in my 50s. And all the quizzes were really excellent. I found myself in each of the quizzes, because each one had an answer that fit for me.
This is an instant purchase. If you choose to give it as a gift, just know that any middle schooler will possibly roll their eyes and huff and puff, and may even call it lame.
Then, when you’re not looking, they will sneak it up to their room and start flipping through the pages and filling out some of the prompts.
If you have a young daughter I would urge you to run, not walk to purchased the Rebel Girls books. This book does not disappoint. As I was reading, I thought of how this would have helped me growing up as we navigated without always feeling the support and confidence we now know as adults. Why not assist young women in gaining those traits earlier in life? Confidence and self-assurance will be very helpful throughout their lives.
I love how this journal is laid out with quizzes and prompts that will help define concepts in easy to understand language and are affirming. It is a safe place to try out new things and to learn things like leadership, carrying on conversation, and learning about yourself and who you would like to become without the pressure of making that decision right now. And not to forget--being joyful. That gets lost nowadays. 4 1/2 stars
I would like to thank #RebelGirls and #NetGalley for allowing me access to an early review copy in exchange for my honest review.
This is a really inspiring journal, with lovely bold illustrations. It would be a great gift for any girl to help her to claim her power and guide her.
I received an electronic ARC from Rebel Girls through NetGalley.
Aronowitz challenges readers to think about themselves in new ways - to gain courage, to feel confident, to try new things, to practice kindness, to find joy etc. This journal offers short activities so young women can express themselves and learn to believe in themselves. Each activity is focused on a particular topic but left open ended so readers/writers can share in whatever manner works for them. A powerful gift for young women in your lives.
This book is an absolute gift. It’s well laid out, well structured, and covers various topics to help a young individual begin to develop her self awareness and identity. The activities will help the reader become a thoughtful and self-reflective person. This is an absolutely beautiful and fabulous journal.
I had so much fun reading this book, the story is so adorable and the illustrations were so well done and charming, there’s so many little details in every page that I couldn’t stop but be mesmerized by it all. I will definitely be recommending it! Thank you netgalley and the publisher for this early copy
This is such a cool concept. I loved reading the Rebel Girls books, and the Journal is just another great way to help girls discover who they are, find their confidence and let them live their best and most powerful lives.
Highly recommend it!
This was a really cool journal that would be super inspiring for young readers! It had fun journal prompts, stories, and quizzes. Definitely one that's worth checking out for younger readers!
