I've fallen in love with this entire series of Rebel Girls' books. Even though this one struck me as a bit more of a workbook to guide growth than an actual journal, I felt the same with this one. Divided into five sections: What Is Confidence?, Take Action, Train Your Brain, Build Your Team, and Change the World, it guides the reader from discovering what confidence is to how to use it.
I won't detail the process, those details are all inside the book, but found it an excellent guide for not only young girls but, quite frankly, something many of us not-so-young ones would find lots of food for thought within. In this day and age when confidence is often perceived as the ability to out talk, usually loudly, others, I loved how this guide takes your though recognizing what true confidence is, how to find it by finding your own strengths, or superpowers as the book dubs them, and then develop them fully. Note the name of the last section, hint hint. We all know how quickly the world and events about us can poke holes in our own confidence, so I appreciated the book's reminder that having confidence doesn't always mean you'll be successful. It empathizes that part of being genuinely confident in yourself and your goals is knowing and accepting that you might fail. Few are wonders at everything on their first try, let's face it. Sigh. If only.
We need to celebrate even small steps forward, the book reminds us, acknowledging the courage it takes to try ... and try again and again ... to reach our goals. It provides a structured, systematic way to begin, find your own strengths, and work toward what we want as we build our personal support team. There's a great deal of advice shared, yes, but you'll also find various activities and writing prompts to help you find your way. It may lead you out of your comfort zone at times, but it's all part of the process. Oh, and did I mention there are even pictures you can color? Seriously, this book is wonderfully thought out and organized and should be on every young and maybe not-so-young bookshelf. Hmm, it'd make a great gift idea. Thanks #NetGalley and #RebelGirls for giving me this early peek at this powerful work. I wish you'd been around when I was one of those young, uncertain girls.
We loved this book. It led to hours of chatting about our strengths and how others perceive our weaknesses.
It was a really well rounded book.
Thank you for the chance to read and the experiences it’s now opened up for USA
Growing Up Powerful Journal is a book everyone could use. As a parent I find that one of my most important jobs is to cultivate self esteem. Making my children feel proud of themselves and understanding how to be introspective is a challenge to teach. This journal is a wonderful tool in helping create the understanding and confidence. With its bright colors, lined pages and helpful prompts, Growing up Powerful is a must for the children in your life.
Thank you to Rebel Girls and Netgalley for the Advanced Reading Copy. These are my honest thoughts.
I just wish I had a journal like this growing up! Let’s become more confident, shall we? Yes!
This journal has it all! The five sections are quite thorough yet simple; provides you easy yet amazing prompts. The pages are colourful with beautiful illustrations. And what’s more special is the “Rebel story break” where you will read and learn about amazing girls who have made a difference!
The journal has lists and spaces for speech/musings. It’s so action oriented. What’s also best is that it’s totally undated so you can gift or use this book anytime, any day and any year which I feel is really a good idea. No pressure to fill a certain journal for a certain year. Right?!
Amazing and stunning inside out. Just grab it!
Thank you, Rebel Girls, for the advance reading copy.
I'm excited to see more interactive options being added to the Rebel Girls line. This is a journal full of prompts, scenarios, stories about Rebel Girls, quizzes, coloring pages and more. With all the different themes such as self confidence, friendship, moods and more - it's sure to be a book that girls come back to time and again. It's something where they can pick any page they want and do an activity, or go through it more sequentially if they want to.
I loved this! Such an empowering, confidence boosting and self-championing book! This really is a must read for all girls. It is such a positive, uplifting journal, teaching girls the skills they need to be confident, kind, emotionally intelligent, and happy with themselves. I’ve just given birth to my first daughter, and have definitely earmarked this book for when she’s older. What better skill to have than to be able to feel good about yourself, and to make others around you feel good too?! Faultess- would definitely recommend. I only have two wishes, that I had read this as a little girl, and that I had a hard copy to get filling in!
Thank you to Rebel Girls and Netgalley for an eARC of this book to read and review
Thank you to Rebel Girls for inviting me to an early copy of this book.
The journal is split into 5 sections where the reader can identify their confidence, goal setting, mindfulness exercises, activities to do with others, and bring what they’ve learned together to create change in the world.
While this book is a majority of guided journal prompts, there is also text to help the reader understand what the chapter is doing and a quiz to understand the lesson given in the chapter.
What an amazing resource to foster and encourage self-esteem and confidence in young girls. Would be great as a gift or even as a tool for PSHE classes in schools! Absolutely love it.
This is an interactive journal geared towards pre-teens. There are definitions, quizzes, pages to color, etc. I like that it challenges you to reflect on things you do well and build upon them. Or setting goals to improve in areas you choose. I particularly like the section about called Build Your Team. It focuses on skills you want to have to be a good friend and things you want in your friends. Unhealthy cliques and poor friend behaviors are found at very early ages in my elementary school. And I want kindness and empathy to be part of any friend group. I like that this encourages thinking about your positives and not just areas that need improvement. And this is something to be done is small sections not completed all in a day. I’m not sure that all younger readers are self motivated to work on a journal like this so they may benefit from an adult checking in and encouraging the interactive process. Recommended for 3rd grade and up.
I know this is designed for tweens to teens but I think grown women could benefit from a lot of this too! It doesn’t tell us what to think but makes us think for ourselves. Really helpful guidance and a resource for self reflection and development.
An introduction to journaling for girls. Here they will find the tools to build their self confidence and self worth by helping to find their strengths and to build upon them. There are also fun things to do and is complete with QR codes to access short podcasts! Since I've never met a Rebel Girls book that I didn't love, I heartily endorse this one!
The illustrations continue to be delightful, imaginative, and colorful.
Well suited for reading WITH someone of any age including ESL, and great for gifting to anyone, and even to a school or public library!
I requested and received a free temporary e-book on Adobe Digital Editions from Rebel Girls via NetGalley. Thank you!
A superb guided journal for Rebel teens and teens, providing guidance and encouragement during a time when children are going through an awkward and difficult period of growing up. This colourful and packed journal is a gentle and helpful approach at getting teens to step outside their comfort zone and with prompts reflection their own positives and superpowers. This self reflection helps them grow in confidence. There are questions to prompt inspiration, designs to colour, blank spaces to add pictures, drawings and words, QR codes to learn more about a topic inspirational stories from other Rebel Girls, and so much more. This is a stunning journal, and encouraging our little Rebels to spend some daily time thinking about themselves in a positive way can only benefit their mental health and feelings of self-worth. Both my pre-teens (tweens) will be treated to this on its publication in October 2023 so they can celebrate themselves. #growinguppowerfuljournal #rebelgirls #netgalley #nonawillisaronowitz
This is a brilliant idea for young girls finding their path through lots of new experiences, giving them a chance to record thoughts etc on what is happening. Includes information in an accessible way to encourage them to express thoughts which will help with their physical and mental health. Lots of great interactive content to support journal keeping. Would make a great gift for pre-teen girls.
Another great addition to the Rebel Girls collection and a nice activity book for teens.
As always, art is beautiful, vibrant, and diverse. It helps a lot with the experience of this diary and accompanies in the right moments.
As a journal, it's well structured. It combines writing and drawing prompts, quizzes, coloring pages, and personal experiences of young girls in each section. (A little nitpicky detail, the quizzes with a background of red gradients do not have the best legibility but I guess it could work better when printed)
I loved how the core values in this journal are kindness and empathy. A great message for a young audience. Also, I really liked how the book emphasizes the difference between "(be) risk-taking and reckless", it shows a level of detail for the text that is really needed for younger audiences.
Overall, this could be a great gift for young teens.
A gift of a book whether you have (or are) a girl brimming full of confidence, or more likely, still finding your feet with it all. Carefully worded takes and stories, examples that make you think and simple tasks that engage and shine a light on baby steps to being more confident and realising potential.
A great gift for any teen or preteen girl. While I wouldn't call this a journal so much as a confidence and goal workbook, it is a great book. There are writing prompts. Activities and interview questions. There are coloring sheets and fun quizzes to keep your girl entertained for hours.
This series of books is always really positive and empowering for young, or even older, girls and that is one of my favorite things about it. I like that there is now also a journal with activities that provokes thought and sharing of feelings/struggles.
Another amazing addition to the Rebel Girls library! This really impressed me. I have always loved journaling and this would have been great when I was growing up and I fully intend to get this for my daughter when she's older.
In this guided journal you learn about confidence, self-pride, being yourself, and much more.
This journal will really help young girls realize their strengths, abilities and how to be proud of them and use them daily. There are great tips and advice. The questions in this journal will really help young girls build their confidence, step out of their comfort zone in a way that isn't uncomfortable, or create a new comfort zone and try new things.
I think this is a must-have journal for young girls today.
Thank you so much @netgalley for sending me an ARC of Rebel Girls: Growing Up Powerful Journal.
This journal serves as a motivational book for kids, teaching them about the importance of confidence and never giving up. With powerful examples and fun activities, it's a nice tool to help children be more confident and believe in themselves!
