A cute picture book explaining why dragons and ice cream don't mix. Poor dragon just wanted some ice cream.
This is a pretty typical story about someone who can’t do what others do and finds a special ability that the others don’t have, then all are friends. It’s not a bad story, but one that has been done many times over again. I do think the angle of eating ice cream and fire breath works well, and the illustrations are fun. The storytelling is a little lack luster but can get better with practice.
Tattoo doesn't breathe fire so the other dragons are mean to him. It had very Rudolph vibes, but no lesson was learned. Maybe I am reading too much into it, but it just felt icky.
3 stars
A cute story about the fact that it is okay to be different. Very sweet! As a special education teacher, I think this would be great to read to my students.
A heartwarming and empowering children's book that beautifully addresses themes of inclusion and embracing differences. Young readers (3 years and under) will be captivated by Tootoo's journey as he navigates the challenges of being a dragon who can't breathe fire like his peers. The story is both entertaining and thought-provoking, as it teaches valuable lessons about acceptance and finding strength in one's uniqueness. Through Tootoo's experiences, children will learn the importance of kindness and compassion, making it an ideal read for parents and educators seeking to instill positive values in their little ones.
Thank you so much to Arashi Publishing and BookBuzz and Netgalley for the ebook to read and review.
Tootoo is always left out of everything fun his dragon friends do all because he doesn’t breathe any fire. Then the ice cream truck rolls in and he sees his opportunity to eat ice cream.
Really imaginative and clever story idea and I liked the repetitive and rhyming style of the writing. I loved seeing the cute illustrations of the dragons on each page doing things that he wasn’t included in. It was so sad seeing him alone all the time though.
I liked the progression the story took, where we saw him alone watching from the outside as they all did fun and exciting things. Then after he took his chance on being different they found him interesting enough to include him.
It was a really cute story, with cute illustrations and an easy story to follow. I found one things odd when TooToo ordered ice cream he asked for three scoops and ended up having six scoops but it wasn’t mentioned why in the story. I just found that a little strange.
Overall this was a really adorable story of embracing what makes you different and I think that this would be a really enjoyed story by many children. It’s got really pretty illustrations a fun and easy story and dragons.
Hey, parents and little adventurers! I just read this super cool book and it's totally awesome! You gotta hear this - Tootoo is this young dragon who can't breathe fire like the other dragons. But you know what? He's not sad about it! Instead, he shows everyone that being different is actually cool and makes him super special. I was cheering for Tootoo all the way!
The story is so heartwarming and teaches us to be nice to others, even if they're not like us. And the pictures are soooo cute, they make the whole adventure come to life! I'm not even 3 yet, but I understood the story perfectly, and it made me feel happy.
This is a cute book about including others and not judging someone by what they can't do, but rather what they can do. In this "rudolph the red nose reindeer' type story, there is a dragon who does not breathe fire. He feels left out until one day the ice cream truck comes and the other dragons realize how cool it is that he can actually eat ice cream. It is definitely a cute and relatable story with nice illustrations. I would recommend this book for children in the age 4-7 range. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me the chance to read and review this book!
Only one dragon can eat ice cream and the other dragons want to eat it. Dragons can’t eat ice cream because it immediately melts because of their firey breath. It’s a cute book with because illustrations. Perfect for younger readers who love a good story.
I read this with my 4 year old and he loved the story and immediately asked me to reread it. It is a new modern take on the same story as Rudolf the Red Nose Reindeer. We used this story to talk through issues like being different and pointed out things like his friends being taller but he still liked them and that being different isn’t bad and that we should show kindness to everyone.
Dragons Don't Eat Ice Cream is an adorable little story about a dragon who didn't fit in. He was excluded and bullied for being different because he couldn't breathe fire like all the other dragons.
Tootoo, our little dragon who couldn't breathe fire, had another ability the other dragons didn't, though. When the ice cream truck came to their neighborhood, he could eat ice cream! The other dragons couldn't, because their fire would melt the ice cream before they could eat it!
One thing I noticed was that Tootoo asked for three scoops of ice cream, but he has seven scoops in the picture. It's not a big deal, but for young kids learning to count and learning basic math, it might be confusing.
This was a fun story that shows kids that you can be different, and it's okay. Now all Tootoo's dragon friends realize that he's cool too, even if he can't breathe fire like them! Different doesn't mean bad!
Thanks Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to review this eARC in exchange for my honest review on the book!
Didn't translate over tablet as well as needed the pages to be either side of each other ideally so my son could see what the words we were saying we're translating to in regards to a picture. An OK story, my son liked the ice creams and the dragons.
Think Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer...but with dragons.
In "Dragons Don't Eat Ice Cream", Tootoo the dragon is used to being left out because he can't breathe fire—but that doesn't mean he's happy about it! Written for very young readers, the book serves as a reminder that it's okay to be different, and sometimes our differences are our strengths.
With text on one side of the page and full color illustrations on the other, the bright and playful images are likely to appeal to kids. (The ice cream in particular looks delicious. Though Tootoo asks for three scoops and seems to get seven, which might set a kid or two up for disappointment when they don't get the same result!) It might have been nice to see Tootoo and the other dragons work together (another dragon could lighting a candle with its fire-breath and Tootoo putting it out?), but the book is aimed at young enough readers that a simple message is probably for the best.
Thanks to the author and publisher for providing a review copy through NetGalley.
This was a cute story about a dragon feeling left out. It's a lot like the story of Rudolph. The other dragons are able to breath fire, but Tootoo can't, so they won't let him join in on their fun. Then one day, an ice cream truck comes by, and he's the only one who can get ice cream because he doesn't breathe fire. The other dragons realize it's okay to be different and let him play along after all. I loved the cute pictures and the message is great, I just wished there was maybe 1-2 more pages explaining the moral of the story for kiddos who might not catch on right away. I had to remind my daughter at the end what happened since the book didn't exactly explain it
