A Hotshot Manhattan Attorney. A Sweetheart of a British Patisserie Chef. One fateful meeting at a bagel cart.

They sound like a match made in heaven—or is it a car crash?

This book was unexpected. I picked this thinking it would be playful and fun and romantic (it was), but it was also serious and real. It tackled miscarriages and abuse while also playing on classic romance tropes. It really gave the book depth.

I realized after reading that this is one in an upcoming series. It is safe to say that I am excited to read more from Laura Carter if her writing continues to be anything like The Law of Attraction!

This book was...not what I was expecting/what I was sold with the cutesy cover and blurb. First, it's almost entirely a single POV, and not a back & forth romance. Second, the attraction for Drew felt like insta-love, and it wasn't given anything much to substantiate and develop it throughout. It wasn't just lust, it wasn't just feelings - it was a weird in-between that just didn't click nor did it really make sense for this character who is the epitome of the asshole cocky bastard type. And the past bits with Becky just dragged it all down, and the mood plummeted right from that first Past scene and it just never became the cutesy romcom this was supposed to be.
It was...disappointing. Maybe if it's sold differently, it can be a hit with more readers, but as is, it just doesn't gel

I’ve really enjoyed reading this book. It’s a cute romcom with opposites attract and friends to lovers thrown in for good measure. I thought that Drew and Becky were really well matched. I loved how they met and that they started out as friends. I thought that they were both really likeable characters. I loved Becky and really felt for her, I loved how she got closure on her past. The book itself was fast paced and written really well. I also liked that the book was mainly from Drew’s POV with only a few chapters from Becky, it’s rare in a romcom but it’s also a refreshing change.

This book has all the things you want and love from rom-com! It's told mainly in Drew aka the male main character's POV, and it's endearing to see his resistance of falling in love to actually be in love. Becky is also a great strong female character.

I liked that the story is told mainly from the POV of shark lawyer (with a hidden goey center) Drew, but one the four backstory chapters for the love interest Brit pastry chef, Becky, was so disturbing that it took me a day to force myself to continue reading when her next POV chapter turned up.

Trigger warnings include a drunken minor's sexual encounter with a preditor, psychological/domestic abuse, and miscarriage in the back story flashback scenes for the female love interest.

Laura Carter’s Brits in Manhattan series.

I enjoyed this romcom which stars Becky and Drew. Drew is a NY attorney who is making a run for partner and is all about work.

Becky is a British pastry chef at a NY restaurant, who is running from her past and meets Drew while they’re getting their breakfasts at a NY food cart.

I enjoyed the characters and the plot. I delightful read.

Thank you to the author, Boldwood Books and NetGalley for the eARC in exchange for my honest opinions.

Keep an eye out for my review for Brits in Manhattan #2 coming shortly!

This book reminded me a lot of the “Wallbanger” series — except those books worked and this one totally didn’t.

Drew is a hotshot attorney looking to become name partner at his firm. Think less witty Harvey Specter.

The book is dual POV in name only because 95% of the book is told through his POV. Which would be a refreshing take for a rom com if he wasn’t an absolute douche canoe with the emotional intelligence of a peanut.

His POV reduces Becky to a two dimensional hottie with a good laugh — nothing about the development of their relationship seems based on anything genuine because we really don’t get anything at all about the FMC until we learn why she came to New York in the last 10% of the book. This reveal, by the way, contained no trigger warnings when it absolutely should have.

This plot has potential but the execution needed some work — I had a feeling from the beginning I wasn’t going to vibe with it and I should have listened to my gut.

P.S. Drew is described several times as having dark blonde hair but this cover shows a dark haired hottie — I mean these are the key details that I’m talking about people!

For those that have been binging suits. This one's for you! From the meet cute at the bagel cart to the MMC trying to get his name on the door, to his secretary that is Donna reincarnate. This was such a fun read. The FMC works at a restaurant creating amazing patisserie (I would LOVE to try all her desserts!) They build an amazing friendship, and the will they won't they angst is definitely in the forefront of the story.

This was a different one in that, while dual POV, it was almost all from the MMC POV, which we don't usually see and it was unexpectedly refreshing. One thing to note though, the chapters from the FMC perspective are very heavy. Even with that. I wanted to see more from her story, what was there I feel like was handled thoughtfully but because they were flashbacks and so few, it felt a little incomplete. I would have also loved more of an epilogue BUT, I can't wait to dive into the other three in the series!

I really enjoyed this book! The characters were wonderful and I really liked the fact that most of the story is told from Drew’s POV (but the clips from Becky’s POV are great too). This is a great story of friends to lovers and major self discovery from both main characters.

I really enjoyed this one. It was a very cute read and the characters were likeable - most of the time! I liked Becky and her character she had such a cute energy about her, I liked her story and the way it unfolded. Drew Harrington initially gives off really ‘iffy’ vibes, however the further into the book I got the more I liked how his true colours were coming out the more he got to know Becky. I thought the book was predictable but it was an easy read with a bit of romance in it.

Cute!! This is a dual POV, slow burn, opposites attract, grumpy x sunshine. All of my favourites.

She's a pastry chef and he's a hotshot lawyer, seemingly mismatched. There are some DV references, so check any triggers prior to picking this one up.

The third act breakup was a bit frustrating in this one, but since they're my least favourite thing ever, I guess I might be bias.

This is an easy read, nice and quick. Overall, pretty good!

2,5 rounded to 3* I stalled on this review, because I wished I could come up with something nicer about this book, but I guess it was nice, but nothing more.

It was an easy read, it was fun and sweet at times, but it really didn't engaged me so much.
The meet his parents chapter made me think of "How to lose a guy in ten days" when he takes her home.
I also felt it was overly dramatic, Becky's past didn't really add value to the book for me, just sadness, as if to balance the "easygoing" romance the author inserted the drama to add depth to it.

Thank you Netgalley and Boldwood Books for providing this book as an Arc in exchange of an honest review.

This is the first book of the series, Brits in Manhattan, and also the first time for me reading something by this author. I found it to be a charming and fun story, with a grumpy/ sunshine trope, which happens to be one of my favorites. The writing was done well and easy to follow and the storyline flowed nicely. Drew is a successful, yet uptight attorney and well on his way to making partner at his firm. The only thing holding him back is that he has to prove to the others that he has a human side to him. He meets Becky and with her sunny disposition and positive outlook, she just might be the person to help him do that.
The book definitely left me with a smile on my face and a happy feeling afterwards. The characters were interesting and well-developed with realistic qualities that gave them an authentic personality and were easily relatable. This was a delightfully cute and light-hearted read that kept me entertained from start to finish. This story pulled me in from the start and kept me engaged till the end. A very charming story!
I received a complimentary copy from Netgalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.

If you’re into stories where the two main characters have to fight to stay just friends, then this is the read for you. The Law of Attraction by Laura Carter is the first book in the upcoming Brits in Manhattan series, and you’re going to love it! At least I did. Talk about a swoon-worthy book boyfriend!

Meet Drew. He’s an infamous lawyer who has it all. I’m talking the amazing career, pick of mate, the list goes on. Then he meets Rebecca, or Becky. She just got out of a controlling relationship and isn’t ready for another man in her life (been there, sis). Then she meets a man who is too good to be true, but she has a lot of baggage to unpack that she carried with her from England. Will she be able to unpack and accept the love and man she deserves?

This was an incredible start to a series, bravo to Carter! This is a spicy read, so if you generally read closed-door romances like myself, this one will have you blushing. But it will also have you laughing out loud! I wanted to follow this duo around like a fly-on-the-wall just to take in their energy! I adored this book and am looking forward to the rest of the series.
