I did not finish this one, it was not for me, I couldn't relate to the characters, and just did not care for the story.
This is a wonderful read and I absolutely enjoyed a lot. It was short but still it is heart warming read. I will recommend this to everyone.
This was such a wonderful read! While coming across as fun and light initially, it gradually revealed Becky's heavy secret and the way Mr. Drew Harrington handled it all was absolutely perfect as well!
Though it has been a while since the book was published, thank you @netgalley for my advance copy! No regrets requesting this one, whatsoever! Also, the subtle vibe of Suits is also extremely appreciated!!
Here's to always having wings and roots!
The Law of Attraction takes you on a journey with characters contrasting the lives of two individuals from different worlds, each harbouring their own secrets and vulnerabilities. Drew Harrington is a high-powered Manhattan attorney known for his ruthless legal skills and his reputation as a charming yet commitment-phobic playboy. He's on the verge of achieving the pinnacle of success—being named a partner in his prestigious firm. However, to secure that partnership, he must prove to his colleagues that he possesses a more compassionate and human side that's often hidden behind his tough exterior.
Becky Fletcher, on the other hand, is a British patisserie chef seeking solace from her troubled past. Love is the last thing on her mind as she escapes to the bustling streets of Manhattan. Her bright and sunny disposition stands in stark contrast to Drew's no-nonsense demeanour. She craves a friendly face in a cold and unfamiliar city but is wary of letting her guard down. Their paths collide in a serendipitous meeting at a bagel cart, a moment that sets the stage for what could either be a match made in heaven or a disastrous car crash.
The untitled contemporary romance novel offers a promising premise that explores the classic trope of opposites attracting. The characters of Drew Harrington and Becky Fletcher are set up as two individuals with distinct personalities and backgrounds, creating the potential for a compelling and emotionally charged romance. Drew's character is introduced as a charismatic attorney with a reputation for being a legal shark. His struggle to reveal a more human and compassionate side adds depth to his character arc, and readers may find themselves intrigued by his journey toward personal growth.
Becky, the British patisserie chef, provides a refreshing contrast with her sunny disposition and her desire for a friendly connection in a new city. Her backstory and the secrets from her past promise to add layers of complexity to her character. The serendipitous meeting at the bagel cart serves as an engaging and fateful encounter that sparks the potential for romance between the two protagonists. The novel appears to explore themes of transformation, vulnerability, and the power of love to break down barriers.
While the book's title and author are not provided, the synopsis hints at a story that may offer moments of humour, heartwarming connection, and the possibility of personal redemption. It's perfect for the fans of romance novels featuring opposites-attract dynamics and characters with hidden depths may find this untitled novel to be an engaging and heartwarming read.
A fast paced, feel good romance that I enjoyed in the moment.
Now that I need to write about it, I can't even remember the characters names though...
This book presents a somewhat perplexing reading experience for me. It falls into that ambiguous space between good and bad. The author's writing skills are evident, and the characters are reasonably well-crafted. However, despite these positive aspects, I found myself struggling to form a strong connection with the narrative.
The writing style is undoubtedly proficient, showcasing the author's command over language. The characters, too, possess depth and complexity, and their individual arcs are thoughtfully constructed. Yet, despite these strengths, I couldn't shake the feeling of indifference that permeated my reading experience.
Perhaps it's a matter of personal taste or expectations. The book's themes or plot may not have resonated with my current interests, leading to this sense of detachment. It's crucial to recognize that reading preferences are subjective, and what doesn't resonate with one reader may deeply engage another.
In summary, this book occupies a middle ground in my reading journey. It's neither a standout success nor a total disappointment. While it didn't capture my imagination, it may still find an appreciative audience among readers with different tastes and expectations.
Becky’s fiesty nature - don’t let the sweetheart description fool you she is no doormat and Drew’s playboy attitude (seriously he was an a** in the beginning) and reluctance to admit his true feelings as they progressed combined with glimpses of Becky’s past experience added a layer of seriousness (domestic control and abuse) and created a total romance package.
Bonus: One of the best NYC backdrops for a romance and I’ve read a good handful, and a cute meet the fam segway — think How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days vibes.
Thank you for the advanced eread!
The Law of Attraction by Laura Carter was a wonderful romcom about a pastry chef and a lawyer. They are opposite in every way which made this a fun read. You walk away from this book smiling and feeling the warm fuzzies! Who doesn't love a hot young lawyer in New York especially with the show Suits blowing up. It made me feel like I was reading about it. Loved the book, characters, and overall story!
Excellent book, Drew reminded me of Harvey Specter
When y have a very suits vibe. Drew sounded hot to trot, Sarah sounded very much like the assistantBecky sounded like a great group. This book was such an easy read, I read it in one evening.
Thank you NetGalley for this arc in exchange for an honest review.
Perfection. I loved this story. Devoured it in 2 days. Friends to lovers trope. The perfect combination of friendship, family and love.
Brits in Manhattan Book 1. Thanks to Boldwood Books and NetGalley for my copy. Here's my honest review from the heart.
We meet Drew and Becky after a chance meeting at a bagel van. Hotshot New York attorney Drew Harrington is determined to become a designated partner before his 35th birthday. He needs to convince the other partners to vote for him and not for his opponent, who is still likelier even if he isn't as good. Avoiding relationships, he only goes out to have a good time until he accidentally meets "British Becky", a pastry chef from London.
Told primarily from Drew's perspective, we are treated to several flashback chapters of Becky's life, slowly unravelling the heartbreaking reasons why she moved on. to London. And that's my main problem with Law of Attraction; it's like two books with Becky's brutal story helping Drew become a better man. I appreciate that Drew is growing up and realizing he needs a better work-life balance, but I find that a bit too indulgent. Plus, his 180 view on marriage and children is a cliché.
I really wanted to like this story, as there were some great ideas and scenes; I also liked Drew's close relationship with his family and closest friends. However, I found myself stopping and starting again because I wasn't deep into the topic, and once I understood Becky's story, I found myself skipping to the end. But that's just me; maybe you'll find another story. For this reason alone, I recommend reading this article as I would love to read other people's more positive opinions.

This is a super cute rom-com style novel with an INSANE amount of pining. The chemistry between Becky and Drew was crazy! I loved meeting Drew’s family, they added so much love and warmth to the story.
This book had me hooked from the first couple of chapters, although I wish there had been more chapters from Becky's POV. I cannot wait to read the next book that I have from Laura Carter. She had witty banter, British characters, high powered attorney living in New York.
I think the book was wonderfully written, I loved the hectic crazy family when the spent the weekend together, and the descriptions of the chocolates and tastes. I do think there was some questionable things about the food though, such as saying that if they ate something they would become big as a house, etc. I think that can teeter on an unhealthy relationship with food connection. I also know that some people will be upset about there not being a trigger warning for the DV that is briefly mentioned.
I think the story flowed very well, I enjoyed every chapter, it kept me up until 2AM Reading.
Cup-able globes? I know the guy is meant to be a bit of a dick in the beginning but that was ridiculous.
Hotshot New York lawyer Drew Harrington is determined to achieve named-partner by his 35th birthday. He just needs to convince the other partners to vote for him over his rival, who, while is not as good, is more personable. Eschewing relationships, he's strictly only out for a good time until he literally runs into 'British Becky', a patisserie chef from London.
Told mostly from Drew's point of view (which is refreshing for romance), we are treated to a few flashback chapters from Becky's life, slowly unravelling her heartbreaking reasons for moving to London. And this is my main problem with The Law of Attraction, it feels like two books shoehorned with Becky's brutal backstory serving to make Drew a better man. I appreciate Drew grows and realises he needs to have a better work/life balance, but I found it a bit too insta-lust. Plus his 180 on marriage and kids was such a cliche (why must we change our minds about having kids as a sign of personal growth?).
I really wanted to like this story, as there's some really great ideas and scenes, I also liked Drew's close relationship with his family and his best friends. However I found myself stopping and starting because I couldn't get into it and once I got the jist about Becky's backstory and I found myself skipping to the end. That's just me though, maybe you will find a different story. For that reason alone I recommend reading this, because I'd love to read other people's more positive opinion.
Thanks to Boldwood and NetGalley for the ARC.
I love a good romance, and this one was wonderful! It had witty banter, and lovable characters. I was rooting for them the whole way through!
a cute read that is a classic rom-com with a grumpy guy and a sweet love interest. I love the fact that Becky is working through things and that she is a strong person to begin with. the contrast between Drew and Becky is nice and the book moves along well. a good book to read on a slow day or just before tucking into bed.
I liked this book but sadly didn’t love it. It was a cute romance overall but I struggled to connect with the characters a bit, especially Drew at the beginning. Quick fun read though.

🛑Read on with caution; review may contain spoilers🛑
The Law of Attraction is so much more than a romcom. My biggest takeaway from this novel is my admiration for Becky’s character, that after years and years of being in a controlling relationship, she finally had the courage to leave and start anew. I felt sad that it took losing an unborn child for her to take action and prioritize herself, but I applaud her for being able to leave such a horrible man behind. I wish we had more of her POVs and not just mostly of Drew’s, but I found his character fascinating as well. He was driven and passionate about his work and being able to give back to his parents and family. I especially enjoyed watching him fall deeper in love with Becky, with their friendship feeling so natural as it turned into love, and as she changed his approach towards his colleagues, being warmer and more approachable. I loved that he was able to be Becky’s anchor and how he makes her comfortable in their relationship as compared to her previous one.
Pick this one up for a somewhat chill and heartwarming read!
I really liked The Law of Attraction, it’s such a sweet romantic read with grumpy x sunshine and friends to lovers tropes. Although this is a fun and definitely humorous read, there are still some more serious issues covered such as miscarriage and abuse, so if they are your triggers just a warning .
I liked the fact the majority of the story is told through our MMC POV Drew, it’s a refreshing change to read a romcom like this told largely through the man’s perspective and I admit he grated on me at first, but I liked that we watch with grow along the story and he wins you over.
The Law of Attraction was a pleasure to read and I can definitely say I will be looking forward to more Laura Carter books in the future. It’s such a charming and enjoyable read, you’ll be addicted and won’t want to put it down.
