Blog Tour Review:
The Law of Attraction is a cute story about how opposites attract! Laura Carter’s writing style is really immersive, and I enjoyed getting to know the characters through her words.
I loved Becky so much! I wish we got more chapters from her POV because she was my favorite. Her sassy attitude and sarcastic comments were out of this world! Many humorous parts of the storyline made me laugh a lot! I loved her passion for baking. The description of desserts made me really hungry at times, hehe. Her past added a lot of depth to her character. I h But I hope that the book blurb will get updated with trigger warnings, because of the elements of Becky’s past.
Drew grew on me throughout the story. I liked his character development by the end of the book!
I am looking for more of Laura’s books in the future! ❤
A cute romcom about a pastry chef and a lawyer……can opposites attract????
Overall, a fun read that had me smiling and feeling good.
Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
This was a cute story with the tropes opposites attract and grumpy x sunshine.
While mostly told from Drew’s perspective, we do gradually learn more about Becky’s life through some chapters set during her younger years, and I felt that this way of developing her character added depth to the story and kept me reading to find out more about her.
The writing was accessible, and I loved the interactions between Drew and Becky.
Quick Summary: A breaking free from the past women's fiction story
My Review: The Law of Attraction by Laura Carter is book one in the Brits in Manhattan series.
About the Book: Running away from a woeful past that was layered in regret, Becky Fletcher, Patisserie extraordinaire, makes her way to New York. While there, she works her bucket list with zeal and excitement. As luck would have it, she crosses paths with an uptight attorney on the fast track to making partner. The two strike up a friendship of sorts, until feelings begin to emerge. Will Becky and Drew ever have a chance to become true partners, or will a secret from the past prevent them from being together?
My Final Say: This book was so much more than I expected. Not only was it playful and entertaining, but it was also serious and sobering. I liked the character leads and appreciated their evident growth. The climactic confession scene and the resultant confrontation were so unexpected. I was totally in my feelings over that whole situation. I'm just glad that the showdown happened. It was fitting.
Readers who enjoy stories of triumph and female empowerment should like this novel.

Thank you to the author, to the publisher (Boldwood Books), and to NetGalley, who made this book accessible for review in exchange for an honest critique. The words I have shared are my own.
Refreshing that the majority of this story was written from the MMC's POV...I enjoy dual POVs and always feel cheated when we don't get to hear from the MMC. This was an easy, fun, flirty read that would be a perfect book to indulge in if you want a quick read or one to read poolside. Nice writing style from Laura Carter.
Laura Carter’s unique take on this contemporary grumpy/sunshine romance is mainly told in the male protagonist’s voice which is a nice change of pace.
The arrogant and ruthless lawyer Drew Harrington is on his way to making partner with the best law firm in New York. He has sacrificed a lot to get here including his family and his personal life. One-night stands are his norm and relationships are out of the question. Until an attractive, unpretentious British pastry chef challenges his better judgment by accepting her advice to become a better person to get the votes for his promotion. She’s too much of a distraction for a relationship, but can they really be just friends?
Rebecca “Becky” Fletcher is a kind, funny, British pastry chef who is making her home in New York after leaving her troubled past behind. Determined to make a new and better life for herself she is enjoying her job and touring the city that never sleeps. Then he comes along. The wealthy, dickhead arsehole who oozes confidence and sex appeal. He’s gotten under her skin and wants to show her his city, but can she keep things platonic knowing he’s the first thing in New York that has made her truly happy?
All work and no play makes Drew an asshole with a shitty disposition. He originally comes across as a player and slimy lawyer with no human qualities, but with some good advice from a friend to learn some humanity from British Becky, he is on his way to revealing the good man he has always been underneath the façade. Watching Drew at war with his emotions over Becky is delightful and satisfying. He’s so infatuated that he uncharacteristically forgets his wallet on one occasion and his phone on another. When she does a one-nighter on him, he’s angry and confused. But he’s not fooling anyone. He’s fallen hard. Unfortunately, Becky is hiding a big secret that is heartbreaking at best. Her life is mysterious and the reader gets tidbits throughout the book until the big reveal. We don’t really find out Becky’s feelings about Drew until then which is what kept me flipping the pages until the end.
Drew’s friends and family are a good addition to the story. They bring out the good in Drew which won me over. I especially like Sarah, Drew’s assistant and good friend, who is Drew’s conscious and Becky’s biggest supporter. Also, Becky’s boss, friend, and protector, Edmond, is a true gem when he basically saves her life by moving her from London to New York.
If you love a delightful and heartfelt Cinderella story with a Prince Charming in training, give this book a try.
Thank you to Ms. Carter for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.
When I first started this book I thought I was picking up another general quirky romance book. But the Law of Attraction turned out to be so much more than just a romance book. It’s a beautiful and quite a deep story about love, relationships and escaping a bad relationship.
The chemistry between Becky and Drew is insane and I I loved how their relationship developed. I definitely wasn’t expecting the plot twist almost at the end but it did truly turn book upside down and I was sure that was the breaking point of everything. But I guess I was wrong.
All in all, a brilliant book and this will be definitely read more than once!

Hotshot attorney Drew Harrington brings in more business than anyone else in his elite Manhattan law firm, so when one of the named partners announces his retirement, Drew is certain that he'll be the one selected to replace him. His friend and mentor, Marty, isn't so sure, however; Drew's cocky attitude has alienated some of their colleagues and may prevent them from voting for him. If Drew doesn't find a way to win them over, he could lose the promotion to his less qualified but more personable rival, Patrick.
Drew's attitude is on full display the morning he meets British pastry chef Becky Fletcher at his favorite bagel truck. Becky recently relocated to New York for a fresh start, and while she and Drew don't exactly hit it off, they manage to work through their differences and even become friends of a sort. When he learns of her plan to explore the city's tourist attractions, he impulsively offers to join her. Spending time with Becky brings out Drew's softer side, and against his will, he finds himself falling for her. But he can't afford to lose focus on what matters to him the most: the promotion. Can he find a way to balance work and a relationship?
At first, I wasn't sure if I would like Drew because he came across as such an arrogant, entitled jerk. The author did a good job of showing that there was hope for him to change, however; he generally recognized when he was being a jerk and felt bad about it afterwards. As a result, while I didn't always like his actions, I did like Drew as a character. As for Becky, it was a bit tougher to get to know her because so much of the story was narrated from Drew's perspective. There were only four chapters from Becky's POV, and three of them took place in the past. I certainly empathized with everything she'd been through, and she seemed to come a long way over the course of the story, but I wish we'd gotten more of her POV in the present to really understand and appreciate that journey.
Becky's past was quite traumatic, and the content of her chapters could be upsetting for some readers. I read an advance copy of the book and did not see any included content warnings, though they may have been added in the published version. Also, both Drew and Becky made comments that came across as fat phobia/food shaming to me, which I didn't appreciate. It was overall a good story, however, and I enjoyed it.
I'd recommend "The Law of Attraction" for all contemporary romance fans (though it's a good idea to check the content warnings first) and look forward to the next book in the series.

My Review: I really loved the flavour of this story. Yum. It's told from the perspectives of Attorney of Drew and Becky from Britain. It's fun, flirty, tasty and easy to follow. They meet by chance and the sparks are clear to see, well for Fabio anyway. We meet a bundle of fun characters. They say the way to a mans heart is through his stomach, you'll have to read the book to find out if this is true.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book. All opinions are 100% my own.
I enjoyed that this book was mostly told from the MMC’s POV. It’s not often that books heavily focus on the male pov and this was a refreshing and interesting deviation from the norm. The book took a while for me to get into though for a couple of reasons:
1. The MMC of this book is so unlikeable. He was extremely sexist and objectified the FMC almost immediately upon meeting her. He showed little growth throughout the book in my opinion. The FMC wasn’t written in enough detail for me to care about her. She was British and blonde and escaped an abusive life back in England but that was literally all the detail the reader is given about her.
2. There wasn’t really a storyline in the first half of the book. It was just awkward and forced friendly interactions between the MCs and a few bits of legal jargon. All actual conflict occurred towards the end of the book with minimal build up and felt a bit rushed.
Other reviewers have mentioned the lack of trigger warnings. It’s not okay for books to be published, even as ARCs, without the appropriate trigger warnings. There are some heavy topics that feature in this book that seemingly come out of nowhere and a bit of warning would be nice. I’m hoping that Laura Carter and Boldwood Books are reading these reviews and acting accordingly.
Absolutely amazing and gorgeous!!!
"Thank you so much netgalley, the author and the publisher for the advanced review copy if this book💗

From the very first page this had me hooked!
I love how the story is told from Drew’s POV with just a few chapters written in Becky’s view. This made a refreshing change and I think it worked really well.
Drew’s journey starts off in the beginning of the book as a hotshot womanising lawyer and he ends up turning into a relatable guy that falls head over heels with Becky and it is quite literally love at first sight! Or should I say lust at first sight…
Laura’s writing has the ability to draw you right into the story and the characters are all so relatable it felt like reading a movie plot.
This for me was an absolute five star read and I look forward to reading more from Laura.
Thank you NetGalley and Boldwood books for this arc copy.
I am not used to reading from a male perspective, so the whole book had an interesting take. I wish every other chapter had switched from Drew to Becky, rather than only having 2-3 flashbacks of Becky's story. She definitely seemed like a more likeable characters and her desserts were mouthwatering! Drew was not my kind of man, nor did I like the "I'm an alpha male who only does one night stands and I don't date and I especially don't fall in love" storyline. Unfortunately, between that and the male POV, this book was not my cup of tea (or flavor of cupcake!).
What a lovely feel-good rom com from Laura Carter. I really enjoyed this one.
Drew Harrington is a hotshot lawyer in Manhattan determined to make partner in the law firm he works for. When one morning Drew goes to get his regular pre court bagel he doesn’t count on running into a beautiful British patisserie chef called Becky. He also doesn’t count on how much Becky gets under his skin in that brief interaction. When he discovers later on that she works in his friends Edmonds restaurant he is delighted that he gets to see her again. Becky has only been in Manhattan for 9 months and so before Drew knows what he is doing he turns into an unofficial tour guide to show Becky the sights of Manhattan. Drew has always been a “one night stand” man however Becky makes him feel differently and he is surprised by how comfortable he feels even though he has only known Becky for a short time. What troubles him the most is how much he misses her when they aren’t together, and Drew starts to realise that there really is more to life than just working 24-7. However, Becky is holding something back from Drew and with Drew certain he is falling in love with Becky he wonders whether she will ever share what is locked away in her heart and will he ever find out how she truly feels about him or will she run back to England before he can confess his love for her.
This was such a great read and I really enjoyed hearing mostly from Drew’s perspective. I have to admit when I first met Drew, I thought he was a first-class prat but soon enough I started to see a glimpse of a very different man especially as he got to know and fall for Becky. It’s didn’t take long at all after that for me to warm to him and root for him. I really enjoyed the movie references and I also liked Drew being American and Becky being British. Becky’s back story really made me sad, but I am soooooo happy she found her prince 😊. I also absolutely loved her feisty nature.
Overall, I loved this read and it is totally worthy of 5 stars. I shall be adding Laura Carter to my favourite authors list and I looked forward to reading Two to Tango very soon. I highly recommend this book for any rom com lovers; it is such a lovely story!
Thank you to NetGalley, Laura Carter and Boldwood Books for my advanced reading copy. Out now.
I liked this story about a British pastry chef and an American lawyer. It wasn't as light as I was expecting, due to Becky's backstory, so less romcom than the cover implies. It was interesting having nearly the entire book told from Drew's POV, as that's less usual in the romance world. Overall a good story and enjoyable to read.
He's a sexist not a fan DNF
****************I received an ARC for my honest opinion from NetGalley.***************
This book just wasn't my cup of tea, but perhaps others may enjoy it. The main character was so unlikeable that I didn't make it through the entire book.
I read this in a day, I could not put it down! You can’t beat a good romance novel.
I loved both main characters and I was willing to get together from the start.
I have to say I love this cover of this book and cannot wait to read more by Laura Carter.
Drew is a hotshot lawyer looking to be made partner. His workaholic lifestyle leads to a string of one night stands and no time for relationships. When he runs into British baker Becky at his favorite bagel cart, he can't stop thinking about her. Becky is new in town and not looking for anything more than friends. Drew agrees to help her mark some of the tourist sights off her list and in spending more time together, they can't resist the attraction. But when Drew starts to long for more than friends with benefits, a startling secret from Becky's past is revealed.
This was a sweet friends to lovers romcom, kind of a love letter to all things New York. Drew and Becky were so great together from the start and her snarky banter was funny. The only thing I didn't like was the fact that she didn't tell him sooner what was going on.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
2 ⭐️
My opinion is rather mixed because I liked certain passages but others irritated me a lot, I did not hang on the male character I found him full of himself. On the other hand, I liked Becky's character, I found her strong and courageous.
The book is filled with tropes likes grumpy x sunshine , slow burn , friends to lovers. Dual POV’s which is amazing. The writing is good and the book reads well.
The cover is cute with an enticing title for a romance but beware of certain topics addressed in the novels such as abuse, miscarriage ... which may offend the sensibilities of some.
