This book appealed to me for two reasons. I have loved Laura's previous books and having worked in a legal environment. A few laugh out loud moments and well written, it did not disappoint.
I stopped reading this book within the first chapter, I just knew from the opening pages I wasn’t going to warm to either of the main characters so DNF’d.
Fab Cosy Night in Read.
I loved how the story is mostly told from the male perspective- Drew with a few chapters from Becky.
Drew is a top shot lawyer about to make partner and the last thing he is looking for is a relationship, queue cute and funny British girl Becky and you have the perfect rom com.
Both laugh out loud funny and real tear jerker moments. The author captures the emotions in this book perfectly for me.
Okay (deep breath), this book should have had the TWs mentioned at the beginning, there's an extremely disturbing sexual assault scene (it's not graphic BUT, there's this 17 year old girl run away from home, and this older guy gets her drunk and takes her home and sleeps with her and basically keeps her trapped in a relationship for 9 years) - all of this is described in first pov through the girl's eyes, and I was NOT expecting this at all. It hit me out of nowhere, this was supposed to be a banter-y romcom? I mean, okay, atleast put the content warning so that people know what to expect 😐 I'm still in a shocked state of mind, I can't get that scene out of my head. There's also a miscarriage on page (she trips and falls, losing the pregnancy), followed by the father of the child hitting the mother (same people mentioned above) and basically accusing her of killing the child. And oh yeah, the girl also mentions at some point this guy found out she was taking birth control and forced her to stop it.
Ok, so
The book is almost completely narrated by the MMC (not the guy above thank god), and he is half arrogant af lawyer who doesn't want a relationship coz he wants no distractions, and half a guy who is really confused why the FMC keeps saying she doesn't want a relationship (well, coz of all the above shit that happened to her). We get the FMC's povs mostly through some flashbacks and a couple scenes at the very end. For the most part, their relationship was kinda sweet, he was definitely kind of an ass, and a bit misogynistic as well, but honestly I'm so rattled by everything else in this book that this hardly registered at the time. The MMC is like a 2000s movie playboy who has one night stands and kicks them out the next morning, but then he meets "the one" and after that, he's just the golden boy. The FMC is one the sweetest people ever, and one of the strongest, she's survived so much, I just wanna protect her 😭 but yeah thankfully, the hea is good, and I'm like certain they're a good fit moving forward.
TWs (again) - coerced sexual assault of a drunk vulnerable minor ON PAGE, miscarriage ON PAGE, victim blaming of the woman for the miscarriage, domestic assault, continual emotional domestic abuse by a boyfriend, mild fatphobia/calorie counting (the calorie counting actually happens a bunch of times "as a joke" 😐), misogyny

This book is marketed as laugh-out-loud opposites attract romantic comedy, but I don't think that there was anything funny in this book at all. I didn't laugh once, and I don't think it was an opposites attract story either. The description also says that it's a steamy book, but I don't think anything about this book was steamy.
The book is supposed to be dual POV, but it's 90% from Drew's perspective. The other parts that are from Becky's perspective are of her past. Becky's past is so heavy, and I wish that the book had content warnings. Her story was really difficult to read.
For Drew, he seems like a terrible guy, and he was really unlikable. I don't know why Becky would be interested in him, but I don't know much about Becky.
Overall, there was a lack of character development that caused me to not be able connect or root for any of the characters.
Thanks to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for an ARC.
He is not a “relationship guy” and the last thing she wants is a relationship… and she has a secret. This book definitely had a twist I did not see coming, and was an enjoyable read. Becky is a new chef in NYC and wants to see the city and work. The last thing she wants is a relationship. Drew doesn’t do relationships and is 110% focused on his job, plus being up for a big promotion. It is a friends-to-lovers kind of romance (maybe a hint of enemies-to-lovers?) that will warm your heart.
This is a closed door/fade to black contemporary romance told primarily through the MMC’s perspective.
Drew is a hotshot, New York lawyer with a penchant for one-night stands. Enter Becky, a feisty, British patisserie chef who sends his world spiralling. Becky makes Drew feel and want things that he didn’t think were possible and Drew helps Becky heal from her past. You definitely get Harvey Specter vibes from Drew and his legal assistant is an absolute Donna.
The only time we get Becky’s POV is in the past and in the epilogue, so she is kind of a closed-book character, which is interesting in a contemporary romance.
Overall, The Law of Attraction is a sweet, little, opposites attract romance.
⭐⭐⭐
The book is mainly focused on the POV of the male MC. I find the book a very cute cliche Hallmark romance. Just like any other rom-com, both MC’s have personal issues. Although there’s a deeper undertone on it, these characters are not toxic nor too dramatic at all. They are likeable, definitely. They start off as friends, which I really like.
The reading experience is truly pleasant. I love the light-hearted atmosphere of the entire story. The secondary characters are also a huge plus for establishing a warm and friendly environment.
Thanks to @bookandtonic for making it possible to discover this hidden literary gem. I enjoyed reading this eARC through @netgalley. All opinions are my own.
Drew is about to make partner, but having a cut-throat attitude is not always what everyone wants and he must learn to show a different side to himself.
But Becky is his opposite and it may just be this British Patisserie Chef who shows that other side to him.
This is told mainly through the point of view of the male main character which is quite unusual but does work.
I liked the character of Becky throughout the novel but felt reserved about the character of Drew, he was genuinely an unlikeable character. However, I do think this was done on purpose as an 'opposites attract’ style trope, but it was tough when I just wanted more growth with Drew throughout the narrative and not just at the end.
Overall this was a good and quick read.
I did not finish this book. The MMC was dreadful to read through if I'm being entirely honest. He was not "grumpy but has the chance to not be that" in a way many books are able to thoughtfully do. This character was horrid to read. Additionally, the writing itself was not great. It always felt clunky and never flowed well, likely because the sentences all had the exact same structure and there was no variety. I really liked the premise, but this book just did not work for me.
What happens when infamous Manhattan Lawyer, Drew Harrington, is interrupted by "blondie" when grabbing a bagel one busy morning. When he has to choose between the draw of attraction to her or maintaining his work ethic.
I thought this chick lit was really cute, the pull between Drew and Becky was instant and provoking from the beginning. The tension between them was intense in the best way possible.
The writing was simple, and the dialogue was sweet and efficient. The fast pace this novel went was captivating, and I was glued to my seat.
I wish we saw more romance in the novel, it seemed like it was 90% build up and tension, and 10% romance. It almost seemed like it took on an opposites attract type of romance, but didn't truly play out until the end.
Overall this was a nice, charming read and I would definitely read more from this series! I would recommend if you're in the mood for a quick, sweet, tension-filled romance. Thank you to NetGalley, Boldwood Books, and the author for providing me with this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
BLURB:
A Hotshot Manhattan Attorney.
Drew Harrington knows exactly who he is—a legal shark with a love ‘em and leave ‘em attitude that works just fine in his cutthroat world. He’s on the cusp of being named a partner in his firm, but only if he can prove to his colleagues that he has a more human side.
A Sweetheart of a British Patisserie Chef.
Becky Fletcher is running from her past, so the last thing she’s looking for is love. What she does want is a friendly face in a cold city. Her sunny outlook is the perfect opposite to Drew’s hard exterior, but can she afford to let down her guard?
One fateful meeting at a bagel cart.
They sound like a match made in heaven—or is it a car crash?
OPINION:
I enjoyed this book a lot. It gave A LOT of Suits (TV show) vibes and even referenced it. MMC, Drew, really developed into an actual likable human. Becky was a great character to begin with, so I assumed she would be the one that drives a wedge.
Loved the HEA and the understanding that is shown through the second half of the book. I will recommend this book to all who enjoy a good romance.

This book has a lot of low-star reviews, and I just don't get it. It's got a lot of heat, but it's a clean heat. The story is told largely from the male perspective, which is something very different in the rom-com genre, and I appreciated that glimpse into the male mind. True, he's a real jerk, but he experiences personal growth throughout the trajectory of the story. The leading lady has battled her demons, and we get insight into various pieces of her past when they are warranted to help move the story forward, but this is told primarily from the male point of view...and I guess some readers didn't like that. It's funny. It's hot. It's full of real-world scenarios.
A cute PG-13 romance novel with lots of angst. This would be a perfect intro into Romance fiction. I will definitely be recommending this book to students who want to try out the Romance genre.
This was such a fun read! I read this in a day and a half.
Things I enjoyed:
- I liked that the man fell first
- Drew is very swoon worthy and I love how much he loves his family and how close they all are.
- Becky is such a strong women and I really felt for her when she was telling her story.
- All the side characters interested me and I wanted to know more about them.
Overall this was a really witty, funny, quick read. Can’t wait to read the next book in this series!

This one was just ok. The story takes place mainly from Drew's POV, which maybe is what caused my mixed feelings. The problem was Drew was not a likeable MC in the beginning, and this never really changed throughout the story. He felt rude and selfish the entire time. I just was hoping to see more growth take place.
I saw several reviews on this one that warned that it was unexpectedly dark and that the male main character was a jerk, so I wasn't sure if I'd like it. In my opinion, it isn't that dark, and the guy isn't that bad. He's a shark at work (by definition; he's a hotshot New York lawyer vying to make partner), but quite early on the reader is aware of redeeming qualities in the way he treats his friends and family and the glimpses of compassion he shows towards others that peek out of his surliness. That said, it might need trigger warnings for particularly sensitive readers, especially anyone struggling with abuse or miscarriage. Aside from these few angsty moments, the storyline is pretty standard for a contemporary romance, with a lot of familiar tropes: antagonists to friends, friends to lovers, fear of commitment, trust issues, and family dysfunction. The pace is fast, the characters are entertaining, and the push and pull of the romance is portrayed well, though the MMC's realization that he's falling in love seems sort of quick. I found this an absorbing, fast read; in spite of some darker moments, it's overall a light, entertaining novel, and I'll definitely read more by this author.
The Law of Attraction is contemporary fiction with a happy ending. There’s really not much romance. I think the author was going for an opposites attract approach but the MCs don’t seem to even care for each other till the end of the book.
This is one of the few times I think that a book would benefit from being a bit longer. All of the chapters set in the past are in Becky’s voice. Readers learn almost nothing about Drew’s history and what might contribute to his current behavior. Drew is one of the most dislikeable MMCs I have come across in a while but some information about his past may have helped to explain his actions. Additionally, I would like to have heard more from Becky’s POV in the present.
Trigger/Content Warnings: Spousal abuse, body shaming, miscarriage, misogyny, cheating, death of a loved one, grooming/abuse
This is the first book that I have read from this author. It looks like this book was previously released under a different title. I’m not sure whether some of the content was edited out but it definitely seems to be missing something.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

A good read. I loved the cover. I did like drew and Becky story. 4*.
Drew and Becky meet in a bagel queue, and clash from the first meeting. Will the spark between them lead to more? Although I didn't particularly like Drew, I enjoyed the book and look forward to the next in the series.
