This is an adorable picture book about Dilly who lives in a big lake called Wonder Wake who is bored one day and decides to find her friends. We follow Dilly as he finds his friends and I absolutely enjoyed this book not only does it teach counting but rhymes as well. A delightful read!
Thank you so much to BooksGoSocial and Netgalley for the ebook to read and review.
Dilly Duck is all alone, but asks a friend to play as they keep playing more friends join and play. Dilly stops feeling so alone and has so much to do with so many new friends.
I loved that this was written in an almost sing song style you could defiantly read this as a song with your children or just read it as a normal story, but I certainly read it as a sing song style book. Which I honestly loved so much about it, it’s a great interactive style book for reading with children.
I liked that it had a counting aspect and as another duck joined the counting continued its great tool for helping children learn to count and they could easily see the differences in each duck that joined which I really loved.
The illustrations were really wonderfully done, each duck had so much detail and each one was individually patterned was so pretty to look at them each on the pages and children are going to love staring at the pages taking in the details.
I think this is a great story for young children with the beautiful and fun Illustrations, to the counting each new duck, to the way it written in a fun sing song esc way. I really enjoyed reading it and I think it would be a loved book by many young children.
Thank you to NetGalley, along with the publisher for the eARC. This is an adorable counting book with ducks! Young readers will love to count the ducks as more and more join in on the fun with every page.
I read this beautiful children’s book with my 4 year old daughter. She immediately fell in love with Dilly Duck and by the second time we read the book, she was remembering some of the rhyming words! The duck counting is an absolute win for the preschool age, because ducks are always cool!
In addition to the cute story and the rhyming, the story is beautifully illustrated with bright, vibrant colors that capture your child’s attention and keep them focused! Love the use of calming blues!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC. This review is being left voluntarily and all the thoughts are my own.
This was an enjoyable book to read with my child. It has many of the things I appreciate in a children’s book- rhyming, counting, great illustrations and a developing plot line.
Dilly Duck starts out her day all alone, bored and sad. She decides to go find her friends, and along we go. We meet different friends in different places, and we learn to count as we go.
I adore that all Dilly's friends are different. Diversity is important. I love the importance of friendship in this book, the illustrations are fun and colorful, and the story is catchy with all the rhymes. Wonderful book for little kids!
Thanks Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to review this eARC in exchange for my honest review on the book!
Dilly Duck Plays All Day
A day of counting, rhyming, and friendship with ducks having a variety of types of feathers is found in this happy book for young children. I recommend this well-written and well illustrated book for children and caretakers, for both school and public libraries.
This was a very charming story bringing the ducks to life with beautiful pictures and rhymes. The inclusion of facts at the end presented in an accessible way for small children, "If you were a duck...you would fly as fast as a car driving on the highway," was a welcome addition to the book. Suggested extension questions help everyone to think about the story in different ways.
I liked this book. It's very simple and not something mind-blowingly original, but I would definitely use it for my kids on my classes.
It helps with numbers from 1-10 and it uses vocabulary that's simple enough and yet might be new for kids. It works with adjectives and all verbs are in present simple. It also has a guide of questions for the kids so that the activity it's not just about reading the book but also making them think.
A bright and engaging flock of different ducks join Dilly one-by-one in this cute counting book. An enjoyable read-aloud with kids, it also introduces social - emotional concepts, while moving at a swift pace. It is not particularly original, but it is adequately executed, and would make an excellent counting book for a small child who loves ducks. Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley.com for the review copy.
Cute little counting book about Dilly Duck and her nine friends. The illustrations were great and the story was simple, poetic, and helps teach counting
This was a very cute and sweet way for children to learn how to count to ten with beautiful illustrations. I liked the message of friendship and inclusion.
This is a lovely little story book which will help children to learn how to count up to 10. The cute illustrations are accompanied by rhymes that kids will easily pick up. The rhythm in the rhymes could do with a little polishing, for the sake of consistency.
I really like the variety of situations portrayed in the book, in order for Dilly Duck to keep adding another duck friend as the counting progresses. Some thought was clearly put into this, so points to the writer for that.
The fundamental messages about friendship and inclusion are also very sound. Kids should enjoy this one.
This was such a cute book to read with my little one!
First off, it has such cute illustrations. I loved the colorful scenery. The rhyming kept my daughter involved within the story. This one can help your littles with counting to 10, realizing that sadness is okay, and shows a beautiful story of friendship.
We both really enjoyed this read. Thanks for providing us with the ARC.
The colors were very bright with beautiful illustrations. The author used wonderful vocabulary with good use of rhyming. The story is one where a lonely duck is looking for his crew, Unfortunately, I did not feel like this story was anything new or special from what we already have in our classroom library and therefore, I will not be implementing this title into our curriculum.
