The author, Lisa Febre, wrote an empathetic story of her journey battling colon cancer. She wrote this in a first person narrative. It felt like we were sitting down having a conversation and she is telling me her story.
I enjoy reading other people's stories to learn from their experiences . I also enjoy reading medical stories. I learned about what a person goes through when diagnosed with malignant colon cancer.
This book is good for people who has cancer or knows someone that had cancer. It is also good for people that enjoy learning from others and reading stories with a medical theme.
Thank you NetGalley and Black Rose Writing for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
. I learned a lot from this book. The book also kept my attention because though I don’t have cancer, I have chronic illnesses and chronic pain, plus I have always been fascinated learning about other medical conditions. I also am a musician (though in sure not as talented as she is). The descriptions and details really made it feel like you were reading her diary or actually at times were a fly on the wall following her around
A story of one woman's bout with cancer. Febre is a skilled writer and perhaps even more skilled at digging out her own feelings and sharing them with others. She does not hold back. It's scary and brave. It's also daunting to hear how she managed and about the support she got. This is not your average cancer experience. Then again, I suppose no cancer experience is.
Should you read this if you are suddenly diagnosed with cancer? I think many strong women would and should. But for others it may best be delayed. However if you have a loved one or even a friend diagnosed, reading this would be an empathetic task.
Jarring, yes. But if you're looking for some real gritty experiences with cancer, this is your book.
Thank you to NetGalley for an advance copy of this book. I feel sure many readers will appreciate it.
I'm so pleased to have found Febre's memoir. I enjoyed reading her story and found her writing to be excellent! Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. Five stars.
A thorough, empathic, no-holes-barred memoir of one young 47 year old woman's 10 month battle with colon cancer. She describes everything she experienced in detail- not only the surgeries, chemo sessions, radiations, and doctors, but also her inner feelings and changes during the entire ordeal.
This book has 'all the feels'. It's a must-read for anyone who has had cancer, or knows anyone who has had cancer. Which is most of us. A phenomenal, harrowing, insightful, and most of all inspirational read.
Thanks to NetGalley for the eARC.
