Yikes this book had a lot of negative stereotypes. The romcom jokes were just offensive and degrading. They were making disgusting comments about the daughter. This book just made me uncomfortable.
I found the diet and exercise part of this book quite working in how it was portrayed, almost in a harmful way. The relationship felt flat and no real chemistry was present I thought. This was a miss for me sadly!
I flew through this book - this is the second in the Brits in Manhatten series and was a perfect, lighthearted rom-com.
'Ah Jesus. I can't decide whether this woman is the best or worst thing that's happened to me in a long time'.

Brooks is a successful gym owner, while Izzy is famous for her 'Salsa Yourself Slim' workout videos. To promote her new book and workouts, Izzy's publicist recommends Brooks' gym to use - but things turn into a rocky start when Izzy and Brooks don't see eye to eye.
As their dislike of one another grows, Izzy blasts Brooks on her blog, and then appearing on a radio show - it's decided that Brooks will follow Izzy's workout and eating routines, while Izzy will follow Brooks'.
For two weeks, they follow each others plans, but while things started out rocky - spending more time together sends sparks flying.

A lighthearted, fun read - featuring enemies to lovers with some fierce chemistry between the two main characters.
You can definitely read this as a standalone, but if you have read the first book in this series, then their names pop up in this one, so you can see what they're up to!
Some places I laughed out loud, which is what I really enjoy in romantic comedies, both heartwarming and funny. Brooks and Izzy challenged each other, showing that opposites do attract.
Will definitely be reading more from Laura! Thank you to Rachel's Random Resources / NetGalley / Boldwood for this copy. This review is voluntary.
A fine story of enemies to lovers. It didn’t appreciate the main characters’ relationship with food and fitness. I missed book one that might have helped me delve deeper into the story. A nice ending to the story
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for giving me a free eARC in exchange for an honest review.
I really liked the cover and the blurb of this book; an enemies to lovers romcom with a fitness setting sounded like it would be right up my alley! However, this fell really flat for me. Brooks and Izzy did not have chemistry and I think both of them just need to go to therapy honestly (“I guess we both have a lot to figure out before we hurt each other.” YES! YOU DO!!). I didn’t find the romance believable or funny and I wasn’t rooting for the characters. There were pieces I thought were good, but overall I wasn’t crazy about the conflict or how they spoke about each other, and the humor was just grating. Drew’s character said it best: “I take it back. She’s not childish. You both are.”
Some of the other things that really bothered me in this book was how fitness and eating were portrayed. I would not recommend reading this if you are a woman who enjoys exercising, like myself, or someone who has struggled with their relationship with food, like myself. The fitness and dieting regiments were harmful and sexist: “But we aren’t going to lift heavy weight. You don’t want to bulk up; you want to be strong and toned but still feminine.” As someone who spends a lot of time in the gym weightlifting, I almost DNF’ed right there. Izzy’s dieting is purely detox shakes and she cringed at eating protein and carbs so she can stay 116 pounds. The other aspect made me very uncomfortable, and that was how characters spoke about Cady, Brooks’s 18 year old daughter. For example: “I’m thinking about locking her in her room and putting a chastity belt on her until she’s forty,” “imagine yourself at eighteen, then give it female parts and a pretty face.” There was no reason for grown men to be discussing his CHILD that way. Overall, I would not recommend this book to someone looking for a fitness-related romcom.
I enjoyed the last book I read in this series but I almost had to DNF this one. I kept going to see if the story and characters redeemed themselves but I'm not sure they did. I was very uncomfortable with the diet culture advice of Izzy's book/plan and though she learned some moderation in the end, it didn't feel like enough. She was very childish and just didn't endear herself as a character IMO. I did enjoy the character of Cady and Brooks' relationship with her. I liked seeing an update of the characters from The Law of Attraction. I will continue to read books by this author but this one wasn't for me.
I was really excited to read this book since I enjoyed reading the first book in this series, but unfortunately I had to DNF this book. I couldn’t get into the story or the characters at all. Things were moving very slow and the characters weren’t interesting to me.
Thank you to Laura Carter, Boldwood Books Ltd, and NetGalley for the e-arc of Two To Tango! This was my first book by Laura Carter, and it definitely was a fun read.
Brooks is a private gym owner in NYC. Almost everything that he's done in his adult life has been to impress the mother of his child, who got pregnant when they were still just in high school. But as Brooks continues to see Alice move on in many different ways, he's stuck at a crossroads of what to do. Enter Izzy: a fitness blog influencer and new health book author, who is in NYC from England to promote her new book. Right away, Izzy steps on Brooks' toes-- trying to demand usage of his gym so she can shoot promotional videos. Even though he finally concedes, all Brooks sees is another rich girl who thinks she's better than him just because she has money (comparing her to Alice when they were teenagers). When Izzy and Brooks get into an argument in the comments section of one of her blog posts, all of her fans (and her publicist) want the two of them to go head to head in a fitness challenge where they need to use each other's techniques. The next two weeks include them switching meal plans, Brooks trying to "Salsa himself Skinny", Izzy lifting weights and running sprints, and both of them quickly falling for each other while working through the obstacles that are trying to keep them apart.
Two to Tango is a dual POV, rivals-to-lovers, closed door/fade to black romance book. I'm usually not a fan of closed door, but this book was still a lot of fun to read! There was fun banter throughout, and the supporting characters also added a lot to the storyline. I would categorize this as an instalove romance, which I'm not really a fan of. I do think that both Izzy and Brooks had enough character growth to support the instalove, though, even if it sometimes seemed like all the two did was complain about each other when they weren't in private.
I'm rating this book 3.5/5 (rounded up for NetGalley) and a green bell pepper spice level (aka closed door).
It started a bit slow and I didn’t really fall in love with the characters in the beginning. Both Izzy and Brooks seemed too childish, immature, but as the story progressed they grew on me a bit more. I didn’t absolutely love it but I did like it. I felt like they redeemed themselves. I think the story was missing something. I love the enemies to lovers trope but I felt like they went from 0 to 100 in a flip of a page, maybe that’s where I wished it was a little different. I wished we had more to back up their chemistry.
This was my first Laura Carter book and overall I enjoyed reading it. I would read the first book of this series.
Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for allowing me to read this advance copy!
i didn’t realise this was a second book in a series, which is probably why i was confused at parts, but nonetheless found the plot to be boring and repetitive and i had to DNF.
Gosh, I really wanted to like this one. I enjoyed the last book, The Law of Attraction, but I struggled to get into this one and almost had to mark it as a DNF.
Things I liked: I liked that we got to see more of Becky and Drew. We even got to see Drew’s brother, Jake, more in this one! We got to see the group of friends and their dynamic.
Things I didn’t like: I didn’t like Izzy for about 80% of this book. She comes across too spiteful and angry. I didn’t like some of the things Brooks did either, but I still liked him more than Izzy. It was almost too much hate, for an enemies to lovers romance.
Overall, I’m glad I got to read this one. Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for allowing me to read the ARC of this book.
This ended up being a DNF for me. The plot was flat, more a series of incidents than a story. Maybe that changed as the book progressed, but I'm not that patient and I didn't particularly like the characters. Other readers might enjoy the book, but it's not for me.
Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC I received. This is my honest and voluntary review.
This was a cute read. Brooks is sweet with a big heart and a tough past with a need to prove himself. Izzy is a bit petty, rash, and childish but also trying to find her own way.
Here you will find:
- Fitness Competition
- Very Public Drama
- Passionate Chemistry
- Enemies to Lovers
I personally did not connect with the character Izzy, buy enjoyed the story.
Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Publishing for the ARC.
Thank you so much to Boldwood Book and netgalley for providing me with an earc of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Rating: 3.5
After reading the first book I was so excited to keep reading the series - especially after noticing that this book centers around Brooks, a character that had already picked my interest in book 1. And it didn't disappoint.
I love Brooks so much it hurts. His story is so realistic and well written it made me want to sob when he was hurting. I seriously wanted to coddle him.
I also wasn't expecting him to have a daughter. An 18 year old daughter at that, but it actually made so much sense considering his character. And added that depth and reason as to why he was still "obsessed" with his ex.
Izzy now, I had a bit more trouble connecting with. Although I can see where her behavior comes from and all the trauma she has, it was a struggle to me to be more understanding when she acted like a 5 year old brat most of the time. Like miss ma'am really resorted to talk sh*t publicly out of nowhere instead of trying to have a mature and regular conversation with the man. She's 28 years old for God's sake. And yes, I am aware Brooks wasn't also the best at communicating but goddammit at least he wasn't going around airing dirty laundry - fabricated dirty laundry at that.
But them both together, good lord help me. Their banter was like seeing two kids fight which was hilarious most of the time. The miscommunication was almost making me rip my hair out but I absolutely adored how they took some time apart to work through their own issues and THEN got together for real.
I did liked the book a lot. It was an easy, funny and fast read. I absolutely do recommend it.
***TW*** Please do bear in mind that there's a bit of an unhealthy relationship with food mentioned in the book.
PS - I can NOT wait to read the third book about Jake!!!!!
I smashed this book in less than a day. It was addicting and I couldn’t put it down. I loved the fitness aspect and it made me crave my workouts which I have missed while being sick. I also had to keep reminding myself that Izzy isn’t real and that I can’t look up her workout videos. I thought that Brooks’s character was very realistic and his feelings about Alice helped me to understand my own dad better. I loved both books in this series and would highly recommend them.
I did not get past the fatphobic first page. Maybe that didn’t continue throughout the story, but I didn’t want to read that toxicity. This may be for someone else, but definitely not for me.
Ah, this was a fun read, the 2nd book I’ve read by this author and this story had the same characters as the first, it was great to follow on with their stories. Easy poolside reading.
While the synopsis of this book sounded brilliant I found it really hard to get into, mainly because of Brooks character - the descriptions of how he approaches situations had me flinching, and as a father of a 18 year old female I would have expected him to appreciate women whereas sometimes he came across as misogynistic and a bully.
DNF at 30%
Our heroine, Izzy is a famous influencer and dancer who gets off of the wrong0foot with the grumpy Brooks who is a gym instructor. The two end up in a feud that forces them to spend time together, much to the interest of the press.
Unfortunately though, this book wasn't for me. The plot was entertaining and certainly had potential but the characters were both pretty insufferable. Brooks I especially didn't like - so many of the things he thought/said were just distasteful or too rude/mean to be a real enemies to lovers story for me. Who actually says ''are you on your period?' to a woman who is annoyed. There were so many times I felt myself incredibly irritated by them both. I just couldn't get into the story because I found the two of them too incompatible to enjoy, both as individuals and a couple.
I DNF;d this book halfway through, the style or writing and the trope just was not for me at this time.
