I look forward to Sarah Morgan's Christmas books every year and this one even more so, as I'm a sucker for a book about books!
It had all of the usual cosy vibes I expect from Morgan's books. There was a good dose of family issues too that lead to a HEA!
The book had a good mix of characters with natural development, and I don't think there was anyone I actually disliked! I did figure put the small twist right from the beginning though.
There wasn't as much about books as I was expecting, however the book theme slotted in well. I could imagine sitting around the tree at the Inn with my book club!
A lovely cosy Christmas read from the queen of romance, Sarah Morgan.
Lots of love, friendship and emotions explored and I loved it, great Christmas gift.
A brilliant Christmas read
A curl up in front of a roaring fire with a hot chocolate
And get lost in this page turner of a book
Thanks NetGalley
The title and stunning cover of this book sold it to me right away.
Anna,Erica and Claudia have been friends since uni and now as they turn 40 everything seems to be changing.
Every year they go away together for a Book Club holiday but this year it’s different as it’s going to Vermont and it’s in December.
They arrive at The Maple Sugar Inn and Anna and Claudia are delighted by Erica’s choice of venue but it soon becomes apparent that for Erica it has a very different feel.
Hattie runs the inn by herself after her husband died. She shares it with her 5 year old Delphi and is supported by the local community and close friend Noah. When the unthinkable happens and she is left without a Chief Hattie doesn’t know where to turn.
Delphi knows exactly what she wants from Santa and isn’t prepared to share it with Hattie so how will Hattie know what she wants.
This book is full of Friends, family and of course books. Sometimes things happen for a reason and it brings joy and festive cheer to everyone at The Maple Sugar Inn.
A delightful festive book full of twinkling lights, snow and Christmas trees.
The queen of Christmas romance has outdone herself once again. This was festive, it was heartwarming, it was unputdownable.
I mean I literally had to read the last half of the book in one sitting, ignoring the fact that I possibly should have been working, as I was so engrossed in the story, I didn't want to be apart from it, for any time.
It was an absolute joy to read, and I loved getting to know Erica, Claudia, Anna, Hattie and Delphi. A superb selection of characters, and amazingly for a story that has the words book club in the title, - not huge amounts of discussion of books (which weirdly I'm pleased about, as sometimes in similar sorts of novels that can be overdone to the point you wonder how many books you have read within one),
There is though the most picturesque setting, the Maple Sugar Inn in Vermont, which just the name of it when it was spoken in the first few pages, conjured up an image, of a magical winter location, that Sarah Morgan is good at writing. And as the three friends, and Hattie's stories intertwine in ways that work so well, I found I wanted to go and visit this Inn myself.
Anna, Erica and Claudia are three incredibly different people but are the best of friends. I found it took me a while to totally warm to Eric, although I admired her from the start, and I'd say she has the most character development over the course of the book.
And then there is Delphi, Hattie's daughter, who loves sharks and dinosaurs and is so advanced for her age. I loved every scene she was in, and the innocence of a child shines right through the pages.
This is everything I want in a book and more. I adored it totally and loved every single second of it. Another triumph for one of my most favourite authors.
Thank you to HQ and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
I adored this book, it was perfect for a book lover looking for a cosy Christmas story! I loved the different POVs from each of the female main characters involved in this book it meant that you could understand their individual stories on a deeper level. The romance was top tier and it was a heartwarming Christmas hug on each turn of the page!
Loved this book l, friendship, family, romance and new beginnings all in a festive setting.
Different women all with different things going on in their lives that have been shaped by their past.
Each story told with but entwined together.
Great cosy read.
Hattie runs the Maple Sugar Inn but its taking a lot out of her. Without the love of her life Brent, she’s struggling and staff problems are only part of it.
Erica has booked in her friends on an amazing pre Christmas break. For one reason and another they all need this trip. It’s Erica that has a hidden agenda though and her planned visit to maple Sugar Inn, Vermont is only part of it. The three girls always have a book club meet up and this time Erica has pushed it to Christmas. It’s not the easiest time of year to get away from responsibilities for any of them and it’s not great that Erica immediately decides she wants to leave when they get to the Inn. Luckily events take over so we get to see how Hattie, Erica Anna and Claudia resolve their issues and have a merry Christmas after all.
Another Christmas cracker by Sarah Morgan. I love the ideas that are fresh every year and I love the opportunity to take myself to a quiet nook and enjoy reading this festive romance. It’s not just about love of course but manages to cover friendship, family and trauma too. All in all I enjoyed this immensely.
When Hattie's husband dies, she's left with a young daughter and an inn she never really wanted. When friends Erica, Anna and Claudia book in for their book club week, everything changes for all four women!
I loved this book, which is no surprise as I've loved everything Sarah Morgan has ever written. It had the usual romance, family and friendship elements with added Christmas spirit.
Thanks NetGalley for the advanced copy. I'll be recommending this to everyone.
I had such a lovely cosy time within the pages of this book. I adored the fact that we had a 28 year old and three 40(ish) year old women driving the story. I particularly empathised with Anna and the challenges she faces as her children grown up and need her less.
I found it exciting in the way it dealt with such a variety of relationships and although I felt safe, it wasnt purely fluffy and light, there were a lot of themes and events that were treated with care.
Another major plus was NO diet culture chat, NONE, no allusions to eating too much because its Christmas which can show up in these novels.
This book brings the cosy feels we want in a Christmas fiction, while also gives us characters to root for and depth for enjoyment.
I loved it and am so grateful to HQ publishers and Sarah Morgan for the ARC.
This is a really lovely feel good Christmas book, featuring lots of strong female characters and a great festive story of love, friendship, heartbreak and so many other emotions.
Hattie is running a hotel which she is doing without her husband who died unexpectedly, leaving her a young widow with a 5 year old to being up alone. She is managing the staff he recruited and is in constant turmoil with the back biting.
Three friends since college arrive at the hotel and super cool Erica is almost frosty to her hostess, her friends can’t understand until the bond they share emerges.
Fabulous writing and a lovely story make this an easy read on the lead up to the festive season. I particularly enjoy the great female characters who show how very different women have success in their own lives.
Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
Uplifting festive read, showing the importance of friendship and that change can happen at anytime. Great characters in a great setting. Thank you netgalley for the advanced copy
Another gorgeous Christmas read from Sarah Morgan.
I really enjoyed the strong themes of female friendships. We join three friends Anna, Claudia and Erica going away together to discuss a new book (loved this link to her previous book!) and Erica chooses Maple Inn, but doesn’t disclose her reasons why. All three are at pivotal moments in their lives which makes for great reading. There they meet the owner, Hattie who is recently widowed.
Perfect setting, delicious food, gorgeous characters and so much Christmas in a book- I loved it.
It’s not Christmas without a Sarah Morgan’s novel! And I read The Christmas Book Club is two sitting while dreaming of Christmas in snowy Vermont.
Four women and an idyllic hotel in the snow. Hattie never thought that at 28 she would find herself widowed, taking care of a 5-year-old and a dog, and managing the Maple Sugar Inn, a cozy hotel in Vermont. While dealing with a couple of rude staffers, still grieving over the death of her husband, and struggling with her feelings for her handsome neighbour – and Christmas tree man – Noah, she must put on a smile and welcome her guests and give them an experience that will make them return.
Workaholic Erica is not one for relationships or emotions. After her father abandoned her and her mother mere minutes after her birth, she’s been raised with the belief that you can’t rely on anyone, but yourself. Her only family is her two best friends to whom she hasn’t yet told the real reason why she has chosen the Maple Sugar Inn as the hotel for their annual book club meeting.
Claudia had thought that she and her boyfriend would have been together forever, but, after ten years together, he left her for another woman. Six months later, she’s also lost her job – not that she’d mind, as she hated it – so she is really looking forward to the annual book club meeting with her best friends. But, looking at their perfect lives, she can’t keep wondering what she is going to do next.
Her friends think her life is perfect, but Anna is dreading the day her two teenage children leave home. She loves being a mother and being always there for them, even if it means giving up on time alone with her husband, but they don’t seem to need her anymore.
I really loved The Christmas Book Club. I loved the evocative Christmas atmosphere, the beautiful village and the sense of close community. And I loved the characters, authentic, relatable, and well-developed. Well-written, heart-warming, and entertaining, The Christmas Book Club is the perfect book to cozy up in front of a fire with hot chocolate!
I love the idea of meeting up with my good friends somewhere amazing to discuss books...clearly not going to happen in real life but you can certainly step into the pages and join Erica, Anna and Claudia as they mostly fail to discuss the book but instead each embark on a period of self discovery and growth that slot nicely into the story without making it too "deep" for a lighthearted Christmassy read.
The setting is wonderfully described and the winter touches permeate through the book making you want a roaring fire and a mug of hot chocolate.
A great way to while away and afternoon or two in good company.
Fun and easy read, showing the importance of good friends. Set in a gorgeous location, I wanted to join the characters. Would recommend this book
The queen of Christmas books has done it again.
Absolutely loved every part this story - the characters, the setting and just all the feels of an amazing Hallmark movie (I wish it were one - I want to watch it now!).
It wouldn't be Christmas without a Sarah Morgan book.
When three college friends find themselves nearing 40, they discover that some changes to their lifestyle may be beneficial. Their normal annual book club holiday has been postponed from summer until winter due to Claudia’s failed relationship and the venue is is a cosy Inn in Vermont chosen by Erica, instead of their normal city break.
At the Maple Sugar Inn, Hattie is fatigued after running the hotel single handed after the untimely death of her husband.. change is about to happen for all four women but is it something to embrace or run from?
This is a lovely story, uplifting, festive and reminding us all that it’s never too late to change
Sarah Morgan - The Christmas Book Club.
Another gorgeous read from Sarah Morgan.
Three old friends gather for their annual book retreat.
They don’t normally meet this close to Christmas and they don’t normally stay somewhere like the very quaint Maple Sugar Inn.
So why has super efficient, proudly independent Erica brought her friends here?
And where does inn owner Hattie fit in?
Settle in to the cosy heart of the Maple Sugar Inn and join four strong women who are all a little lost, find themselves and their way forward.
Sarah Morgan has once again written an outstanding festive tale.
There are characters to root for and fall in love with.
A setting that is utterly charming and enticing.
I’d happily gather up my favourite book friends for a cosy week of book chat at the Maple Sugar Inn.
With a story that will capture you from page one and characters who will remain in your heart long after the last page has been read, #TheChristmasBookClub is an absolute must for your festive reading this year.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
