This was a lovely addition to the gorgeous Jersey set series. I loved hearing about Charlie and portia and how they were doing now they have moved to Jersey full time after Charlie's inheritance of a chateu. I love returning to the series and having new faces and old. It's a lovely setting with a whole host of characters to meet and enjoy.
Returning to Jersey, where they first met
Seems to be Portia's best idea yet!
Neither she nor boyfriend Charlie were happy before
But now there's a challenge to stress them some more!
Inheriting a derelict chateau on Jersey could be
The dream chance for the two - but just wait and see!
With winter snow and so much to be done, too,
Will they have the resilience and stamina to see it through?
A heartwarming read, despite the chill from the snow,
With artisan baking, new friends to get to know.
When work is overwhelming and all seems out of reach
The Boardwalk community is right there by the beach.
Sometimes you need your friends to help out
And friendships and dreams are what this story is about.
Facing adversity, supporting each other and working together
Are key to succeeding - especially in snowy weather!
A lovely read, I highly recommend to you
As I share with you my honest review.
For my complementary copy of this book, I say thank you,
I throughly enjoyed reading it and hope you will, too.
The best way to describe this installment of the Golden Sands Bay series is like reading HGTV. If you're a fan of watching home renovation shows, but also like a little cozy romance, you will absolutely love Snow Angels at Golden Sands Bay. I also appreciate these books because you can read them as standalone's or as a series without missing out on much. There are subtle inferences to the other characters that have their own feature books, but everything that happened previously is well explained and there really aren't too many plot holes. Personally, I really like it that way. It's great for the audience and widens the amount of readership. While this book has a lot of Christmas mentions in it, I wouldn't classify it as a Christmas book. You can absolutely read this one at any time in the year. It only takes up about a quarter of the book and once it's over it's more a winter whimsy theme. So again, all the coziness, but expands the audience from just a Christmas lover to a book great for the whole season. I highly recommend the Golden Sands Bay novels to everyone. You get all of the small town niceness: neighbors always being there for each other, all the helping hands, true friendships, but none of the nastiness that sometimes comes with those settings. It's a great novel for curling up on the couch during the fall or winter, turning on the fairy lights, and grabbing all the snacks and drinks.

Blurb
Portia Fortescue has traded in the hustle and bustle of London to help renovate a magnificent French manor house on the beautiful island of Jersey with her boyfriend Charlie. But what they hoped would be a blissful escape to the chateau, turns out to be more of a DIY SOS. As the winter snow sets in, the stress of restoring the derelict building begins to take its toll on their relationship. Portia has known heartbreak before, but thought she’d found her happy-ever-after with Charlie… Then, just as all seems lost, Portia and Charlie discover the warmth of the Boardwalk community – the best friends anyone could ever ask for. This new life could be everything they want it to be... if only they can finish the chateau in time for its grand reopening!
My Opinion
I have really enjoyed what I have read of this series so far and I am delighted to be able to read more. Whilst we are back on the Boardwalk, the title of this has been updated. It was nice to catch up with some familiar characters as well as following Portia and Charlie on their journey to restore the chateau. As with all renovations, nothing is straightforward but nevertheless this is a great festive read.
Rating: 4/5
Thanks to the Publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.
Portia and Charlie leave London and move back to Jersey where they met.
They begin a big renovation on the chateau that Charlie has recently been advised he’s inherited.
As winter draws near, and snow starts to fall, there’s a new arrival.
Charlie and Portia get pushed to their limits. We also get to meet the other characters from previous books and find out what’s happening in their lives.
Will they make the renovations they want or will they go back to London?
I recommend this book.
Portia and Charlie decide to renovate the chateau that he just inherited. Portia has never really done anything like that before but she can see how much Charlie is happy to be back. It’s a nice story as we follow them through their renovation. I was wishing I could actually see their before and after pictures.
Thanks to Rachel’s Random Resources for the early copy
I’m loving my time in Jersey on the Boardwalk and this time with Portia and Charlie. Georgina Troy writes about such relatable characters and the emotions they feel trying to live their best lives on this beautiful island.
The chateau sounded beautiful albeit rather run down and I didn’t envy the amount of work ahead of them both. The support and community of their friends and the Boardwalk team though is wonderful and I’m left with a warm feeling inside again having left the team.
This is a slice of life book — and is book 5 in a series which seems to be based around characters who live on an Island of Jersey — even though I missed out on the build up of some of the characters relationships from pervious books — you can easily get into the characters and their history — so the book can be read as a stand-alone book.
The story is based around a couple Portia and Charles — who move back to Charles home of Jersey Island — and attempt to renovate an inherited chateau on the island — and deals with all the interactions that happen in the process of getting this place ready to be a hotel. Overtime , I started to get more invested in the characters and their situations — I would be interested in reading future book as well as past book to learn more about the backgrounds of these characters. There was an opening ending so I figure there will be more books . Thank-you to Netgalley for this ARC , this is my honest review of the book.
Portia leaves her cushy life in London to move to Jersey with her boyfriend Charlie when he inherits a dilapidated chateau with the idea of turning it into a upmarket hotel.
I didn't realise that this is part of a series, however it is not important to have read the other books first (I will go back and read those which are languishing in my TBR list though). This did read like an episode of Grand Designs, with the couple being overwhelmed by the amount of work required. Portia lost her fiance three years before, but has now fallen in love with Charlie, but the project is fully straining their relationship and her lifestyle is now thick wooly jumpers and calloused hands rather than posh frocks and fancy dinner parties. They do have significant support from their friends on the island, without which they would have no chance of succeeding. In summary this is the kind of book that I enjoy, with that small community feel and a realistic view of romance that isn't just roses and chocolates.
I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher through Netgalley, however this did not influence my review of the book.
After not realising this was part of a series until I opened it, I can say it works fine as a stand alone.
It’s not your typical Christmas romance story, there’s lots going on and Christmas only plays a small, almost insignificant part - in that our main characters don’t have time to stop what they are doing to celebrate properly!
We join Portia and Charlie as they move to Jersey to complete a big renovation project. All the elements of winter are thrown at them, pushing them to their limits. I must admit I did wonder why they started when they did, surely they could have held off a few months and begun when the worse of winter had passed, but then that wouldn’t have made the same story!
An enjoyable read where you really get to know all the characters and get a good picture of where they all are.
I would be interested in reading the rest of this series.
I had already read Sunshine Island series by the same author and then started on the Golden Sands Bay series I was delighted to find this book is just as good as the rest. This book is equally as good as a stand alone book or following on from the last book in the series Sunny Days at Golden Sands Bay. Georgina Troy writes from the heart.
This is a feel good romance set in Jersey. A lovely story that follows the journey of the main two characters, Portia and Charlie as they relocate to the island of Jersey, where they first met. The challenges they face together setting up their new life, business and home, together in Jersey. And the mixed emotions that Portia has, coming to terms with the life she left behind in bustling London. They have the support of many other delightful Islanders. This book tugs on your heartstrings and brings joy to your day.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and will be looking forward to more books in this series.
This was a really sweet book! The story of Charlie and Portia and their seachange to Jersey. I have to admit that I have never been to Jersey but now I want to go there :)
Portia is still recovering from the loss of her fiance Alistair, but she is madly in love with Charlie. The chance comes to fix up a dilapidated chateau in Jersey and soon the two lovebirds are painting, wallpapering and gardening to their hearts content. Not easy in the middle of winter with a dodgy roof and windows missing, however.
Portia is a bit of a high-maintenance girl and as the months go on, she finds herself longing for her previous life in London, where she is always warm and can get her nails done, occasionally. She loves Charlie but is quite conflicted about what the future holds for them.
Of course, the path of true love is never smooth and there are some hiccups along the way for our pair, but all in all, this is a real feel-good kind of book.
I wish I had read the other books in the series thus far, it would have helped round out my reading experience, but this book can easily be read as a standalone.
4.5 stars from me.
Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books.
Another great Boardwalk book. Charlie has inherited a rundown chateau in Jersey. His girlfriend suggests they give up their life in London to renovate it but don't realise hiw much work it's going to take
So lovely to be back on the Boardwalk. You follow Charlie and Portia plus other characters slip in and out. I would have liked more about Bella’s baby but the story was good and the sour dough bread parts made your mouth water. Re I was a great character, the plastering made me laugh. The chateau sounded amazing before and after. A good read and a perfect ending.
