I love that this book combined fantasy with my favourite trope - fake dating! Morgan’s character is somewhat charming and her narrative is amusing so I enjoyed following her through this book and seeing her relationship with Rory evolve from pining at a distance to something more. However, she’s also incredibly frustrating. I had to watch her making bad decisions and waiting for the train wreck to unfold which was slowly killing me. I tend to prefer books where the whole essence of the drama isn’t something that could be solved by a short conversation, but I did appreciate the creativity of this issue and how Morgan’s conflicting feelings were shown. It has to be said, though, Rory has the patience of a saint!

The perfect Sapphic autumnal read, that I have been waiting for!
Rory and Morgan are both witches in the Harborage coven. Morgan-who is secretly crushing on Rory-proposes the idea of becoming Rory’s fake girlfriend to prevent Rory’s family from meddling in her love life and career choices. After a few days, the sparks are flying, and it is clear Morgan’s crush isn’t one sided. Morgan can’t believe her luck, until she discovers an ingredient mix up has led to Rory consuming a love potion by mistake. The plan now… to get Rory to fall out of love with her to break the love potion spell.
As someone who reads romance religiously, I really enjoyed the uniqueness of the plot it really was refreshing. In addition to the plot, characters are a real strength throughout: Morgan and Rory were relatable and likeable, there’s significant character development for them both and some great supporting characters. Overall, an enjoyable read.

This Spells Disaster is a book following the young witch Morgan Greenwood as she starts fake-dating her crush, Rory, after getting drunk and suggesting the idea. She tries to make Rory a relaxation potion but accidentally makes a love potion instead, and while Rory seems really into her, Morgan has to try to make Rory hate her so the potion’s effects will wear off, but not everything is as it seems… I really enjoyed this book, and it was a great journey from start to finish, finding out about the different side characters and witch traditions, and of course, the relationship between Morgan and Rory. I thought that the ending was really sweet and I loved how the issue with the love potion was handled, and it was lovely to see Morgan realise how great she was, and how much Rory thought of her. I would recommend this to anyone interested in fun, sapphic, witchy adventures!
