Ghosted is an imaginative and heartwarming paranormal romance by Sarah Ready that blends humor, charm, and unique twists. The story follows Jillian “Jilly” Nejat, a socially awkward relationship columnist who finds herself able to talk to only one man: Daniel, a handsome ghost haunting her new NYC apartment. Daniel decides his afterlife mission is to help Jilly overcome her disastrous dating history, guiding her through awkward practice dates and offering advice, all while unintentionally drawing her into a love that seems impossible.
Ready skillfully balances the novel’s humor with touching moments, particularly as Jilly realizes she may be falling for Daniel despite the barriers between them. The plot is filled with quirky and engaging side characters—especially her best friend, Serena—and memorable scenes, such as visits to a psychic and an amusing therapy session. Fans of ghostly romances and character-driven stories will find themselves cheering for Jilly and Daniel, hoping for a happy ending that seems as improbable as it is compelling.
Overall, Ghosted brings a delightful mix of romance and paranormal themes, making it a refreshing addition to the genre for readers seeking both laughter and emotional depth in their holiday reading list .
What an interesting premise for a book! Sarah Ready had me sucked in right away. Imagine moving into an apartment and it's haunted... by Hotty McHotpants! Daniel, the ghost, helps Jillian learn how to talk to men, how to date, and how to be her authentic self. I feel like it was a bit predictable but at the same time it had me hooked until the very end. Bravo Sarah Ready!
REVIEW: Ghosted
In Ghosted, Sarah Ready presents a contemporary romance that delves into themes of love, loss, and the supernatural. The story centers around Jilliam, who navigates the complexities of a relationship with a ghost, blending elements of humor and heart with an intriguing premise.
Ready's writing style is engaging and accessible, featuring witty dialogue and moments of genuine emotion. The initial concept is creative, and exploring the ghostly relationship offers a unique twist on traditional romance narratives. The chemistry between the leads is palpable, and their interactions provide some of the book’s most enjoyable moments.
However, while the premise is promising, the execution occasionally needs to improve. The plot can feel uneven at times, with pacing issues that disrupt the flow of the story. Certain character developments feel rushed or underexplored, leaving some emotional arcs feeling less impactful than they could have been.
Additionally, some readers may find the blend of romance and supernatural elements jarring as the tone shifts between lightheartedness and more serious themes. This can create a disjointed reading experience that might only resonate with some.
Overall, Ghosted is entertaining with a fresh concept and charming moments. While it may not fully realize its potential, it offers an enjoyable escape for fans of quirky romances and supernatural tales.
Thank you, Netgalley and W.W. Crown | Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA), Members' Titles, for the free advanced copy for my honest review!
Finally! A book for the spooky girls. I absolutely love the concept of Ghosted. Girl falls in love with a ghost that she can never really have? It screams romantic Halloween. There are a couple of cringe scenes but honestly I can get past the cringe moments and just enjoy the romance.
The author skillfully builds tension, using witty dialogue and charming interactions to highlight the chemistry between the protagonists. As they navigate their personal struggles—be it career aspirations, family expectations, or past heartbreaks—their journey feels authentic and relatable.
My very first ghostly romance, and paranormal romance to be really, and I actually enjoyed it more than I ever thought I would!
This story was entertaining, sweet and I enjoyed every minute of it.
Jillian is very very shy and she has trouble in keeping a conversation with men. And the moment she actually meats someone who she's able to talk to, that person turns out being a ghost. Extremely convenient, right?
Daniel is charming and sweet, and he makes it his mission to help Jillian overcome this fear of hers of speaking to men. Call it an unfinished business if you like.
The chemistry between Jillian and Daniel is truly amazing. These characters connect on such a deep level, and I loved every moment they shared: they had me laughing at funny moments and they also melted my heart at all the sweet and tender moments. It was so very easy to root for them and love them. 🥺
Ghosted kept me invested from the start, I adore these characters and I very much enjoy Sarah Ready's writing. This book is emotional, swoony and truly sweet.
Thank you for an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review. This author always makes me cry! Every book I've read has made me cry lol. Really great writing
I'll admit that I thought the premise of this book was ridiculous- I mean seriously, falling in love with a ghost? However having read other of Sarah Ready's books I decided to give it a chance anyway.
You'll never believe what happened. I fell on love with s ghost too! This book was sweet, funny, quirky and had me guessing wrong the whole way through!
Brilliant read - can't wait to devour the rest of the series
when you start to read this book you think what a load of rubbish i am reading then the story between gillian and daniel begin to unfold and you then think otherwise it is so different a story that you get so involved with them and wonder if they will live happy ever after
A cute romance full of forbidden swoon and a touch of insta-love. The paranormal aspect kept me entertained. I wanted to know what happened and how things would work! I was renewed of intrigue with each twist. The main character is the right level of awkward that makes me feel seen as she struggles to even socialize, let alone date. The NYC background felt right for anonymity. Overall, I will continue the series to see what comes next!
Thank you NetGalley, WW Crown, and author Sarah Ready for the ARC in exchange for my honest review. “Ghosted” was published September 26, 2023!
I love a good paranormal romance, and this was no exception! This book reminded me of The Dead Romantics. I was engaged with all the characters and found this to be such a great read.
I recently read "Ghosted" by Sarah Ready and I have to say, I was completely captivated by this book. The story was unique, engaging, and filled with unexpected twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat.
The characters were well-developed and likable, and I found myself rooting for them throughout the novel. The chemistry between the main characters was palpable and I was invested in their relationship from the very beginning.
Sarah Ready's writing style is smooth and easy to read, making it difficult to put the book down once I started. I was completely absorbed in the story and finished it in record time.
Overall, "Ghosted" is a fantastic read that I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a fun and heartwarming romance novel. Sarah Ready has definitely become one of my favorite authors and I can't wait to read more from her in the future.
3.5 stars. This was a different book. The paranormal aspect was interesting, as was how they explained it, though I did find it a little confusing. The relationship was decent, but felt kind of rushed. The second half was a bit of an emotional rollercoaster with some tears involved. I found it easy to put down and not come back to for quite some time. Overall, this book falls somewhere between ok and good. *I received an ARC of this book and this is my voluntary and honest review.
This was not only my first by this author but also my first Ghost Rom-Com and… I Loved It!

I can’t wait for the next instalment in the series.
Apologies for not uploading sooner… I thought I had.
i was areally hoping to like this one because the concept was just so interesting. the writing style wouldn't appeal to me and i personally, didn't like the characters either.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for granting me free access to the advanced digital copy of this book.
This was a great book and I'll be purchasing it for the library.
This cover is amazing!
Honestly, I was so confused about what was going on and what the purpose of this story was when I first started it.
Once everything finally clicked I really liked this story.
This was an insta-love paranormal romance that was really well done.
Jillian has just moved into her new New York City apartment that she rented sight unseen, not realizing that not only does it come with mirrors everywhere (supposedly a former sex den) but also comes with Daniel, the hot, shirtless ghost.
Jillian has been struggling with her inability to speak to a living man for nearly the past decade (not even a romantic interest, anyone of the male species) and Daniel doesn't remember his past at all, including how he died.
Sarah Ready's writing is truly remarkable and had me intrigued the entire time. The story is told from only Jillian's POV and truly had me guessing trying to figure out where the story would take me. I don't want to share any spoilers, but feel inclined to mention that the second epilogue was necessary for me, so be sure not to skip it (there are two epilogues).
While I found this book to be a bit lengthy, I did find the story captivating and couldn't put it down because I wanted the answers so many burning questions, one of them obviously being, Why isn't Daniel wearing a shirt?
This book requires a bit of reality suspension, but if you enjoy paranormal romance (and Star Trek, there are lots of Star Trek references!), you will enjoy this one! This is the first book of the Ghosted series, and I am excited to dive into Serena's story in book #2!
Many thanks to Netgalley, W.W. Crown and the author for the ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I feel like I have to say this for every single Sarah Ready book, it is like watching a full on series with drama and tears and laughter and what not. There is love, self discovery, healing, tenderness, amazing loving people surrounding the MCs. In short always a delight.
After listening a good few Sarah Ready books back to back, requesting this book was like not even a question also, this story is so close to a few of my childhood favorite movies and shows, clearly was a no brainer. The book follows the story of Jillian Nejat, who is the one and only dating expert for millions of people who follow her articles. Little do they no, she has an small hiccup, she cannot talk to men (kind of like our Raj from Big Bang Theory), so her dating life being a straight woman is kind of in shambles. Not to mention her bank account and her job.
As everything seems to be on the downfall, it is only normal that her new apartment that seems to be covered in mirrors on every single part of it is comes with free company aka a ghost. This shirtless sexy ghost (only Daniel no surname) has no idea why or how he is there or even that he is dead and also is the only man she seems to be able to talk to. As they struggle to adjust as 'housemates', Daniel decides to help Jillian out with her 'problem' because after all there needs to be some kind of purpose to his existence there and what else can it be.
Never have I had read a romance book that kept me on my toes, not to mention the whole mystery of what, how, where, when plus all the drama and the banter. The book was hilarious and heartfelt. The narrators also did such an amazing job. Will recommend this to anyone who is looking for a fun read with a supernatural twist to it.
after several attempts at trying to read the digital copy of books from this author i requested the audio but it still did not resonate with me. I just do not like the writing style that the author uses. I believe that the books will and mostly likely are well loved but unfortunately i just cannot get through a book by this author.
