I found the setting for this book irresistable, but the lack of context of the characters and some very obvious twists made for quite a slow read.

I think this would be a lovely cosy read for anyone new to the genre.

Scenes of the Crime is a mystery thriller set in a remote winery in Oregon.

I enjoyed this book but I was left with the feeling that I had wanted a bit more from it.

The story was good and I didn't guess some of the plot twists however the story didn't really grasp me.

At times the story was quite slow paced and I found myself losing interest. It did pick up part of the way through and I found this more enjoyable.

The characters felt a bit lacklustre, not a lot of information was given about them outside of the situation they were in. Providing this may have made them more relatable.

Thanks to NetGalley and Headline for providing me with this arc.

Atmospheric Mystery..
A friend’s disappearance is at the centre of this atmospheric, slow burn suspense. Five girlfriends take a break to a remote winery on the Oregon coast - for what should have been the most perfect and ideally relaxing trip - when one of them mysteriously disappears without a trace. Years later that very same break is to be re-enacted - as one of them surely knows the truth. Bursting with atmospherics, a cast of deftly drawn characters, an astute and keenly observed narrative and a solid mystery at its very heart, this is an often unexpected and engaging read.

A pretty decent read with a rather slow start. It's your typical reuniting mystery thriller. It's well written and was set in a bit of an original setting. The characters were well written and I didn't see all the twists coming which gains it points in ym eyes

This book started off really slow but soon stepped up. There are a few good twists in the story but nothing that would make it a five star read.

The story is about a girls weekend away fifteen years ago at a winery when one of the friends Vanessa, disappeared. In the present Emily thinks she spots Vanessa at a coffee shop and this sparks the idea that she wants to arrange a reunion for the same group of the friends at the same winery. Secrets come out and trouble is around the corner.
Good quick read which held my interest

I did enjoy this book I thought the first half was a bit slow, and took a while for my to get into it but by half way through it definitely got a bit more fast paced and I was hooked by then. There was few twists and turns which I didn’t see coming. I will definitely be recommending this thriller. Thanks to netgallery and the publisher for my advanced copy.

Fifteen years ago, during a girls' weekend away at an Oregon winery, one friend in the holidaying group inexplicably disappeared. What happened to Vanessa remains a mystery, and one that the other four have largely given up on.

Until one day when Emily, who is a successful but dissatisfied writer with a TV job, sees someone who looks identical to Vanessa, and gets the idea to use their own story as inspiration for a screenplay she wants to write. To that end, she invites the other three for a reunion to the "scene of the crime" at the Oregon winery owned by the family of Brittany, who is also Vanessa's cousin.

Told partly in the form of excerpts from Emily's screenplay, it gradually becomes clear that all of the friends (frenemies?) - including Paige, the athletic one, who is the closest to Brittany, and Lydia, the quietest of the five, who does not get along with Brittany - all know more than they are telling about what actually happened with respect to Vanessa.

I have to say that I felt this the story did not live up to its potential. The first half was a bit slow, though things definitely stepped up in the latter part of the book. Nor did I find any of the characters particularly likeable - though that's not a deal breaker where a book is concerned, either.

There were a few twists on offer, and I liked the meta aspect involved in the screenplay. And, of course, I did want to find out what had happened to Vanessa!
