I loved Isabella Mazzanti’s art expressing the traits and powers of the mythical characters I enjoyed reading the information given as it answered questions about Norse mythology that I had. This book cab be read by everyone regardless of age.
My biggest thank you to Netgalley and the author Tom Birkett for a free copy of this wonderful book, in exchange for an honest review.
Besides the subject of the book, what immediately drew me to this tome, is the illustrations. They are beautiful and magical which will delight children and adult alike.
The stories are short, but very informative and often times touch on parts of the lore which are often times overlooked by other books. I felt like I was reading a more in-depth and true account of the lore, gods and their lives.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would recommend it to any person interested in Norse mythology and legends.
As a lover of Norse mythology, I have read many of this type of book. This one was great. It collated some of the main myths and presented them in an easily accessible way, meaning that some of the myths could be read and enjoyed by children,
The illustrations in this one were really great - I loved seeing their version of these well-known characters.
Definitely worth a read!
Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.
I absolutely love this. A wonderful, easy to read, beginner's index of Norse gods and beings including, Thor & his hammer, Loki, Heimdall and The Valkyries.
What an interesting look at Norse Mythology! This thorough examination introduces readers to each of the Norse Gods & Goddesses. Interspersed with stories and beautiful illustrations, I felt like this gave me a new understanding and a book I could share with my children as we study Mythology. Well written and very interesting. While I can find tons of books on Greek or Roman Gods, this book fills a void. I also really appreciated the inclusion of a glossary at the end of the book.
Norse mythology is one that is often referenced in various works. I enjoy the stories that wait between the pages...almost as if I'm going on an adventure
Super cute, quick, and informative read. I really enjoyed the stories but also adored the pages dedicated to explaining different gods, goddesses, and other key people and creatures within Norse mythology.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me this eARC to review.
The art of this book is absolutely stunning to look at. Around half of this book is about the Norse Gods where there are some facts, their origins and where they would be found then there are a few stories and more profiles on mythical beings. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to learn about Norse Mythology.
What a delightful primer to the Norse pantheon. I love the illustrations and the stories selected for this book.
Norse mythology always confuses me with who is who and what they have done and I think it doesn't help that so much of it is fantastical. I know the main gods of Odin, Thir and Loki and some of their exploits but this book gave me so much more information about them and lots more about gods I hadn't heard of. As well it has retellings of some of the stories and tells you more about different giants, the dwarves and elves. A brilliant read and beautifully illustrated. I will be using this for my Vikings topic.
4⭐️
I love Norse mythology.
The illustrations are beautiful. It was also very informative and interesting and easy to read. A good choice for anyone who is interested in learning more about Norse mythology and just starting out. It’s informative without being overwhelming.
Looking forward to getting a physical copy to add to my collection when it comes out.

As a fervent enthusiast of Bengali mythologies, I found myself utterly captivated by this book. My adoration for mythologies from around the world has always been a driving force behind my love for reading, and this book proved to be an unparalleled addition to my collection. Every page was a gateway to a world brimming with deities, heroes, and celestial beings, offering a tantalizing glimpse into a cultural narrative that is both exotic and enlightening. The enchantment of "Legends of Norse Mythology" was further heightened by its breathtaking illustrations. Each image was a masterpiece in itself, capturing the nuances of the tales and bringing the characters to life in ways words alone could not. The intricate details, vibrant colours, and evocative imagery added a whole new dimension to my reading experience. For anyone with a penchant for mythology, an eagerness to explore different cultures, this book is an absolute must-read.
Legends of Norse Mythology is an informative and beautifully laid out book that will enchant both adults and children who are interested in mythology. The popularization of many Norse Myths in contemporary movies and fantasy novels make this a timely book!
Each page in the book is either an overview of a character or a story in Norse Mythology and accompanied by beautiful illustrations. There are fourteen gods represented in the pages with their most notable characteristics or events. There are pages for the giants like Aegir and Ran, mythical beings like elves and dwarves, and famous monsters like Fenrir. I learned something new on every page!
I also appreciated the stories presented, especially of the apocalyptic Ragnarök.
A visual presentation and a journey across Norse Mythology, it tells the story of the Nine Worlds, The story behind the making of Thor’s hammer Mjolnir, the mead of poetry, and what ultimately destroys the Norse World (Ragnarok).
It offers a profile on some of the well-known gods & and goddesses of Norse Mythology such as Thor, Loki, and Odin, and some lesser-known ones.
Great information and the illustrations are beautiful
Review to come in October to blog/goodreads.
I received this book from Netgalley/the publisher in exchange of an honest review.
I just LOVE LOVE mythology stories so when I saw this stunning book up on Netgalley? I just had to go for it! I just wanted to read more Norse mythology + I was hoping the illustrations inside would be just as pretty as the cover!
In this gorgeous book we get to meet gods, goddesses, and mythical beings/monsters/giants. From Loki to Gullveig to Fenrir and Surt. And in between we get 4 stories about other topics, of course all related to Norse Mythology! I really loved seeing what we could expect and I was hoping there were some new things to learn/new things to read about! I always love it when a book about a topic I read more books about surprises me!
And boy, it was stunning! Each two pages is one page with the story/information about that specific god/other and then on the other page was an absolutely stunning illustration. Really, I definitely want some of these on my wall! Like Loki, hello, Loki. Normally prefer short hair, but um, hi! 🙈 I loved how the information was given. First an introduction, then some more information along with where you can find gods/beings and lastly we get some quick pointers/facts to complete the portrait of that person/being. It was a lot of fun to read, and yes, I learned a couple of new things along the way~ Which is definitely always a plus in my book! The information that we get is well-written and I enjoyed the style (and it even made me laugh at times).
The only thing was that the font was a bit tiny, I am sure that this is no issue when one gets a real copy of the book, but for the ebook it was at times a bit squinty even with my glasses, haha.
But in overall, HIGHLY recommended if you are a fan of Norse Mythology and love some gorgeous art along with it.
Beautifully illustrated introduction to the various interesting stories in Norse mythology. I appreciate that they were short and concise, that made it easier to read and understand for the kids.
this was a good book about Norse Mythology, it was engaging, and the artwork was okay, but at times felt unfinished, or unpolished and lacking in symmetry, which made me feel that little bit of uncanny valley feeling.
I would read more books by this author on either more in-depth Norse stories, or other mythologies from other pantheons.
This is such a gorgeously illustrated book that starts with the Norse gods and goes through each individual’s story and anecdotes about their life. Each gets a fully illustrated double spread and we even have the inclusion of the monsters and creatures that are also present in Norse Mythology. My daughter and I had so much fun reading each story and section together and surprisingly learned so much! We can’t wait to add the finished copy to our home library!
First of all, thank you to Netgalley for the advanced reader copy of this book in exchange for a honest review.
Secondly, let’s dive right into my thoughts on this little booklet. The book opens with a brief introduction of the main gods and monsters in the Northern myths, and then follows suit with a couple of paragraphs on the main ones, together with some amazing hand-drawn illustration. Those were, actually, my favorite parts of the entire booklet.
Isabella Mazzanti is brilliant, and her pencil strokes flow well, breathing life into her portrayals. The color schemes and the expressions she picked for each god are flawless and magical. For me, they were in fact the catalyst for wanting to learn more about the Nordic myths.
The writing, on the other hand, is unimpressive. I can’t entirely tell what the goal of each little description is—are we supposed to just take a couple of notes on the names and locations of each god, and then a few fun facts? Maybe I didn’t read the description properly, however, when it stated this would be a collection of tales and legends, I expected it to actually go in and describe a few stories from the North. On the other hand, the blurb does indeed mention there would be profiles for the gods, however, in my opinion, these are rather simple and… lacking. I think it would have been nice to actually format them differently, if this was supposed to be a profiling sort of book. Maybe have a family tree drawn out, then for each god in particular, have their name at the top, the meaning of their name, realm they live in, then more defined location, enemies, friends, some fan facts, and the biggest and most famous tale surrounding them.
